VZW may be pulling out of Premium SMS; letter mailed to VZW customers
Verizon mailed out a letter through US mail to select customers calling out some of the major coreg networks by name and how some customers may have been unknowingly charged for a SMS subscription.
It's basically a huge refund program for customers, and my sources are telling me VZW is pulling out of premium SMS entirely within the next 30 days.
If anyone is feeling RPUs dipping today it's because the networks are scrambling to implement major changes on VZW paths.
Like I've been saying, 2012 is most likely the year coreg, at least in the form we know it, dies.

Well one of the reasons people see RPU's dropping is that most of the carriers now offer refunds if customers get duped....or complain....then they block all premium SMS on that line....so that customer can't use those services again.....
not sure co-reg(mobile based) will die....but with whats going on around the world..(ES, DE both enacting new regs and the US prob will have something similar soon) .....its gonna def change conversion rates/RPU's....
I would def look to diversify if mobile/co-reg is your game....

This is sad to read, could this be the twilight of co-reg as we know it? :-(

Hey Russian, can you expand? Curious to hear your thoughts.

Oh boy - should be interesting to see what happens to RPU's now that they officially terminated.

Yea, a brilliant affiliate decided to be next level aggressive and auto dialed users, leaving messages saying as a Verizon user they can claim their free ipad by going to freeverizonipad.com where they iframed a mobile offer. Got Verizon codes nuked all over. Silverpath made optimizations on the backend to deal with the rpu drops and hopefully shouldn't be too bad since it accounted for a small portion of our traffic. RPI Verizon.

That's so messed up.
A suggestion to the coreg networks (I know Fluent is already implementing it), but provide a redirect url parameter for vzw users. IF the user provides a vzw number on my registration page, immediately send them back to me instead of sending them down a path. That way I can control monetizing them myself.

Yea we have that implemented too. We carrier detect and all VZW and ATT #s were served 1 mobile offer only in the path and they were ok with it until this. Now it's just lead gens for VZW.

"brilliant affiliate", not sure if serious?
This guy was a retard, how could he expect to get away with something like this?
"A fool and his money are soon parted" - I guess that's the case in this situation.

If Verizon files a lawsuit against the affiliate personally we'll get his name. VZW has sued people for shortcode abuse before, and won. Big.

Same thing as always one door closed 2 more open. When rebills got hit on FB for example other niches took over like auto and edu.

Huh? Vzw terminated psms shortcodes across the board buddy. Any network still running them is opening themselves to a lawsuit. Do a googlenews search for Verizon + short codes + lawsuit. They don't fuck around.

I hope it stays around. It offers the most broad form of monetization this industry has ever seen.

No, they did not. Its more likely most will get term'd in the future because of being over refund thresholds. Buddy.

Or I should say those that didn't get axed, will eventually. Then vzw will pull back on their ludicrous thresholds once they clean up (a guess).

Hope you're right, but from what I heard is Verizon is out of the horoscopes/ringtones/useless mobile shit game. If that's the case, the mainstream coreg networks won't have access to vzw for a long long time.

My RPUs have dropped about 20% the past two days with GT. About 9,000 users... Anyone having better luck with SP or Fluent? GT has always been king for me, but thinking about testing the waters again.

@Herd
I would always split test with SP especially right now. GT/SP have both been contenders in the US for me, even though GT usually performs better

With the post-VZW-coreg landscape, a 20% drop is what's to be expected. I'm seeing about the same on Fluent. The name of the game now is how to monetize the fuck out of the 20-25% VZW-loss subflow.

Do you know if GT has implemented the new lead gen paths for VZW numbers?

The big 3 are scrambling to figure it out. Right now they are just throwing some Iframed CPA offers together and calling it a path which is not very profitable nor a great long-term solution.
My advice is to require your coreg network to instantly pass vzw users back to you so that you can control monetization.

Interested in seeing how this turns out -- seems like there's
a lot of scrambling going on for the "Big Three" to fill the hole
that was VZW!
