Taboola Conversion Postback Setup

Hello Folks,

So I was trying to setup the conversion postback for a leadgen offer and had the following questions:

1) I read on another thread here on STM that I first need to create a new conversion 'Event'. Now in the 'Value' field do I need to put the payout of the offer?

Name:	Value.png
Views:	26
Size:	10.0 KB
ID:	24715

2) Do I need to put the event pixel code somewhere? Or just save the conversion event without adding this code?

Name:	Pixel Code.png
Views:	21
Size:	54.4 KB
ID:	24716

3) Now as for the postback I get from the tracker: https://trc.taboola.com/actions-handler/log/3/s2s-action?name=REPLACE&currency={CURRENCY}&revenue={p ayout}&click-id={externalId}, I think I only need to change the name to the name of the event I set during creation and currency of the offer payout?

Is this correct or am I missing something?

Let me answer your questions pretty quick:

1) I read on another thread here on STM that I first need to create a new conversion 'Event'. Now in the 'Value' field do I need to put the payout of the offer?
A - No need to place a payout value for the event, you might be promoting different offers under the same event name and category, so no need to give false info to their system.

2) Do I need to put the event pixel code somewhere? Or just save the conversion event without adding this code?
A - As long as you will be using S2S postback, there's no need to place the event script in the offer tracking section. Just make sure your S2S postback between the affiliate network and your tracker is properly working.

A - Your postback URL should be fine like below, if the event name below matches the event created in your taboola account.

HTML Code:
https://trc.taboola.com/actions-handler/log/3/s2s-action?name=leadsubmit&currency={CURRENCY}&revenue={payout}&click-id={externalId}

Just make sure to add the page view script on your pre-lander and you should be good to go.

Thanks for your inputs @platinum. I also have these questions related to the topic:

1) So if we use the same event for sending conversions for multiple campaigns (be those campaigns leadgen or CPS offers), will the postback work fine without any issues and will it send conversions to the correct campaign?

2) On the 'New Campaign' page I see this:

Name:	Taboola Pixel Message.png
Views:	14
Size:	36.2 KB
ID:	24720

Do I need to setup Taboola Pixel and if yes, where do I add it?

3) Also on the same page we get these 2 options:

Name:	Tracking Fields.png
Views:	14
Size:	49.4 KB
ID:	24721
Are these 2 options of any use for affiliate campaigns?

Your Taboola configuration on your tracker will determine the the tracking code you need to put on your campaigns.

Instead of placing UTM parameters, you will need to place the part of query strings that is automatically appended to your campaign URL:

For example, your tracker generates a campaign tracking link like below:
Code:
https://track.theoptimizer.io/camp/b77f-40d8-859f-d915dda14825?publisher={site}&site_id={site_id}&ad={title}&platform={platform}&campaign_id={campaign_id}&adid={campaign_item_id}&creative={thumbnail}&ts_cid={click_id}
What you do in this case is split the link in two parts from the question mark, as follows:
Part 1:
Code:
https://track.theoptimizer.io/camp/b77f-40d8-859f-d915dda14825
Part 2:
Code:
publisher={site}&site_id={site_id}&ad={title}&platform={platform}&campaign_id={campaign_id}&adid={campaign_item_id}&creative={thumbnail}&ts_cid={click_id}
Practically all your Taboola campaigns will have the same tracking template, so you won't need to over-complicate things for yourself. And in any case when you will need to fix or update your tracking code, you can do it from campaign settings without having to resubmit ads for review.

Now for the events, its all fine to have a single event for different offers (no matter of their payout model) for as long as the conversion goal falls under the respective category. Taboola will attribute the conversions to the right campaign, site and ad using its own click id. Id which was generated in the moment the ad was clicked and received back from your postback in the moment of conversion.

Meanwhile, regarding the pixel, you can place the generic one on your landing page, this way you can feed landing page views to Taboola. But, be careful not to add the lead event in the landing page view script. This will most likely feed false conversion information to Taboola, that can negatively impact the results of your campaign, especially when using smartbid.

Once your offer will start sending conversions, taboola will report the events as collecting so don't worry too much about it.

I'll note that it can take up to 20 minutes for a conversion, even a test conversion using their tool, to postback. I know it says that on their site, but I didn't believe them either.

So wait a good 20 minutes after you fire it to see if it posts back.

I had no idea there was a page view script. God damn it.
