Is anyone here running mobile traffic?
If not, is there a reason why you aren't?
Do you have any questions about it that I can answer to make you THINK about running it?
I would love to use this thread as an open forum for mobile offers/traffic. Ask me any questions you might have about it, and I will get you the answers to it!
Please use me as a resource...

Sure,
Which offers do you think work best with mobile?
Do most people go with landing pages on mobile ?
Which mobile ad networks do you think are best to start with, and which are more affiliate friendly?
I was talking to my AM and he said the problem with mobile is that most people almost immediatly close the ad? Do you have any advice on how to prevent that?
PayPerCall seems to getting a little hotter nowadays and I was wondering if your network has paypercall offers?(it seems like the main one is ringrevenue)
With mobile, is there a way to build a list of sorts(similar to e-mail marketing)? I guess it would just be text message list building. And, are affiliates currently doing things like text message list building?(what are the best resources or service providers for this, and what is needed to stay compliant?)
Thanks
I have three questions!
What makes a good mobile lander?
Can you give us some examples?
Why do you think WIFI mobile traffic does not convert as well as normal (carrier) mobile traffic?
Hey Marty,
Wow, this forum is getting populated with some amazing people and expert advice in all areas.
I was part of the NeverBlue Mobile beta launch so I am looking really forward to the click-to-call platform
Cheers!

Sorry, I was more meaning about sizing for landers. I'm aware that there are a tonne of different mobile browser dimensions, and was wondering if there is any yard stick to cater for the majority.
For example to make your call to action button above the fold on the majority of handsets, how many pixels down from the first pixel should it be?
I'm sure there are a few things that need to be done to effectively transform "normal" landers into mobile landers.
Hey Marty...
I have a question regarding mobile app traffic. We have a soon to launch app in the Mixed Martial Arts/UFC niche. So, demo would be males 18-34, and that are into mma, drinking, happy hour, etc.
Instead of just running other peoples ads via admob we want to place our own..... So, what offers do you recommend in this case? Would also be interested in click to call offers, we're open to anything.
well, Just got approved for some of the mobile offers there, so I started a few earlier today over at Jumptap.. This is my first time trying Jumptap.. I have tried running a few offers over at admob..But OMG, it was horrible..lol.. I mean I lost a lot of money there..
So I am hoping to do better at Jumptap... I did pick one of the TV streaming offers and also a couple of the high converting dating offers......
Are there any other places you might recommend for mobile traffic besides Admob, and Jumptap ?
Also, at Jumptap, I am using targeting certain "categories".. My question is, Would you recommend targeting "categories" or "keywords" ? have you noticed an upside to either ?
Marty. i have some questions for you about jumptap:
Does the CTR effects the CPC (cpc lowering)? If not -> does it really matter what kind of CTR you have (do you get less traffic too?)
If yes-> What kind of CTR are you aiming for?
Do you prefer running RON, or only category's? Or both? Why?
How to optimize your campaigns, can you ditch each url, or only category's? Can you do this yourself, or do your rep need to do that? ETC.
I'm curious to see how much volume there is when you are narrowing things down to specific handsets and carriers, but this is all great advice Marty. Best I've seen on mobile so far.
It seems Jumptap is really lenient on Ads, approving gambling and adult related offers. The only bad thing is 85% of their traffic is from the US.
ok now the 8TON elephant in the room.
What about click fraud and for CPL, call fraud?
I have seen and heard that 50% of admob traffic is click fraud. IE: people tapping an ad accidentally because its next to an app (great for the apps' ad revenues...sucks for the pub!), kids pressing ads for S&G in angry birds, kids 'drunk dialing' [too much kool-aid is NOT a good thing] leads (verified by listening to lead quality).
I know of a handful doing well on mobile, but not nearly as many as the marketing would have you believe.
So, we have a medium that has tons of traffic and is in just about in everyone's pocket or purse, BUT the question to ask.
What is the quality of the traffic, how is it backing out and what is the REAL cost to the pub. (if sending cheap clicks to a lander and that traffic does not convert well... those clicks ARE NOT cheap!)
Is mobile another clicksor or even worse RON?

"squirrel.."
oops...I have kinda neglected this thread. Sorry guys!
...and thanks for this. Thought I would share another small helpful video I put together on how to optimize your campaigns:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQhKF0R7plw
Put the info in this video together with your P202/T202 so you can optimize by device and narrow from RON to certain catagories, and it can REALLY help you become profitable.
I just posted this in another thread about 'Click Fraud'...thought I should share it here as well:
Yeah, just to follow up with what Dieter is saying, we see on average a 30%-40% click breakage on our offers, and that is with the Server-to-Server tracking we do with our advertisers. We found that that is MUCH MORE ACURATE than regular advertiser pixel tracking.
This is due to the IP issue that Dieter was talking about plus the fact that many handsets will not render certain banners (IE/ some feature phones cannot display image banners). This is something we are just getting used to with mobile traffic.
Aside: we do NOT lose conversions with S2S tracking. Just clicks.
yes, that is a very important point:
server to server is the way to go if you really want accuracy and for tracking to work.
so what software allows that for tracking ?
I have heard the reason pixel does not work is that some handset/OS can not handle java, therefore, no pixel dropped.
Marty,
Pm me what mobile offers you have we do quite a bit of Pay Per Call and mobile.
Here are some insights as a mobile content (Premium SMS) advertiser:
Wifi - there is a higher chance that the user will not have credit on phone. This is important because we only make money via SMS billing in exchange for mobile content.
S2S - We prefer to use S2S because a conversion doesn't always necessarily take place while the browser window is open as a mobile PIN submit is required. Most mobile content campaigns only convert on a billable user. If we use image javascript etc, publishers are credited for conversions that cannot be billed. Advertisers will often pay lower for browser based pixels compared to S2S.
Carriers & Handsets - If you think about it, both carriers and handsets appeal to specific demographics. Here in Australia for instance, if you target someone on Telstra in a major city I would assume they are better off than someone on Vodafone. Same goes for phones. Prepaid mobile users are not as profitable for mobile content advertisers as their credit runs out - knowing this I would probably avoid handsets sold on prepaid packages. Another thing on carriers - often the advertiser gets paid differently depending on the carrier, this can range from $1-$20. As an affiliate, some advertisers will setup carrier specific campaigns for you so that you can take advantage of the higher paying carriers. If you are direct and driving volume this is a good way to take advantage of the awesome targeting options available on mobile and increase your payouts.
