Sweepstakes 101 - Part 2 - Affiliate Networks & Advertisers

Affiliate Networks & Advertisers

Because sweeps is such a big vertical, pretty much all networks nowadays have sweeps offers. However, there are networks and advertisers that have their main (or even sole) focus in this vertical.

Below are a list of such affiliate networks and advertisers, listed in alphabetical order but with interviewees listed at the top.

Clicking on a link will take you to the signup page. When signing up (or during a chat/interview) with a network, it may help to let them know you're an STM member where possible, and even mention that you've read "the sweepstakes guide by vortex".

That way networks will know you're not a total noob, which may improve your chances of getting accepted.

(Disclaimer: STM does not endorse the use of any affiliate networks or advertisers. Please sign up at your own discretion.)

Advice on Offers & Geos

So what types of sweeps offers are the hottest right now?

Below I'll post the answers I got from the experts I interviewed. But before I do, I'd like to bring your attention to this reminder:

The kinds of offers that convert the best - when it comes to prizes and conversion flows (e.g. SOI iphone offers) - will be different depending on:

-The particular TRAFFIC SOURCE/TYPE

-The particular GEO

-The specific LANDER ANGLE used

-The particular OFFER FUNNEL

(And then there are factors that are changing all the time, such as: Regulations in different geos that govern advertising or how sweepstakes can be run; competition levels on traffic sources and in different geos; popular trends with regards to products/services that are being used as sweeps prizes; etc.)

So, when you're reading the below quotes from experts, keep in mind that:

When an expert tells us that a type of offer is doing well, it may be for specific traffic types only, and/or for specific geos only, and/for for a specific lander angle only...etc.

What this means is that when a network tells you that a new offer for a gift card of a famous cosmetics brand is converting like a beast, and you're only running pop or push traffic, you'd need to find another offer to run - because niche products like cosmetics are typically better for traffic like FB or Google, which allow you to target niche (by interest, age and gender, keywords, etc.).

Pop/push traffic is broad traffic that is more-suited for offers that have broad appeal, e.g. iphones and Samsung phones.

Another, related point that needs to be made, is that each affiliate I've interviewed, focuses on specific traffic types. So when they tell us for example that CC submits converts great for Geo X, that may only be true for the type of traffic they're running, and not necessarily on other traffic types.

Lastly, I'd like to warn that: Trends are always changing, so if you're reading this guide several months after September 2019, the info below may already be outdated. Your AMs will keep you up-to-date on what's working right now.

Finally, I present to you all the wisdom I received from interviewees on what types of offers are doing the best right now.

Vincent Jouvin @ Big Bang Ads:

Mostly iphone, Samsung s10, supermarket and vouchers convert well.

Daniel Agurto @ Fluent:
Obviously the most generic rewards have the most volume, as they can cater to a larger audience. But we see a lot of success with niche products as well, i.e. drones, gym membership, Netflix subscription for a year, etc.

Ivy Villezas @ Wewe Media:
CC submit is still very strong in Europe, especially in geos FR BE IT UK DE ES CH NZ - these geos have been in our top offers report for the past months. We don't really run out of good offers to split-test in Europe, so I will definitely be able to give something good to run in cases when performance of some good offers go down suddenly (which is expected from these geos). We've been working with many solid CC submit offer advertisers since we were media buyers ourselves, so we have strong relationships with them which gives us an edge.

Just recently, I see SEA (South-East Asia) doing very very well, especially in SG MY TW KR. Surprisingly, SG and MY have always been at the top. It helps to know that Huawei P30 is still popular among Malaysians and Singaporeans (despite the Google ban) so I was able to convince affiliates to try these offers, and our volume picked up quickly and dominated the region fast and hard. Plus, there isn't much competition, and traffic is way cheaper, so I wasn't really surprised to see a quick boost in revenues from these countries.

Another key to running CC subs successfully is to be able to find opportunities and being open to entering new markets and dominating these markets before anyone else, so I highly suggest to try out Asia and the Middle East.

When it comes to products, flagship smartphones still remain on top - namely iPhone X, Samsung S10. Some advertisers are coming up with offers for vouchers, gift cards, Spotify or video streaming in geos like Belgium. Results vary but these offers are worth a shot.
One key to becoming successful in CC submit offers is to continue split-testing offers from different advertisers, not just different affiliate networks. From what I see, our big-volume affiliates are always asking for more offers from different advertisers and more intel from us - even after they've found a profitable offer.

I work with the bigger affiliates to come up with exclusive offer pages, which can really boost CR to give them that edge against the competition. For each affiliate, I would identify advertisers that match the affiliate's style of promotion. For example match an affiliate that likes to use aggressive angles with advertisers that have lots of MIDs and therefore can allow aggressive promotion, or match an affiliate that can do volume with advertisers with huge caps and more geos/new markets.

In some cases, offers from different affiliate networks, even if they're from the same advertiser, will perform differently for some reason. There's no loyalty - whichever network's offer performs the best wins. So always split-test offers!

Tim Konijn aka @stickupkid:
(Note: Tim runs sweeps offers mainly on FB.)
US: Leadgen (SOI or DOI)
Nordics: CC Submit
Europe: Pin Submit

CC submits are quite volatile, and countries are being shut down easily and quickly - since credit cards are involved so abuse/fraud can have serious repercussions. Smaller geos are prone to getting over-regulated quickly.

Mitesh Muley aka @miteshmuley:
I'm doing SOI currently, but iphone/samsung CC submits all are doing very well on facebook and push.

Andrew Payne aka @Mr Payne:
(Note: Andrew runs sweeps mainly on Push + Pop.)
Fluent > for anything SOI in the US - very solid
BigBangAds > good SOIs for international
AdCenter / Sweep-O-Matic > for CC submit sweeps (when the offers are available); they also have good VOD offers

SOIs are doing strong as usual, both in the US and in Europe - countries like Germany are very hot. SOI is easier to see results for low-budget beginner affiliates.

I personally have never made a DOI work at a big level (I don't know why - may be lack of trying).

I find that most often the offers that work better, for me at least, have been branded offers that a large majority of consumers use.

So for example iPhone vs. Walmart: I find they both can work, but Walmart tends to outperform because many consumers go to Walmart very often so it's a more actionable offer angle.

For conversion flow, the survey style is still the best in most cases. I rarely have gotten a sweeps offer to work without a survey type of flow.

I also run CC submit sweeps - they can do very well when you are running the right geos, at the right time and with the right offers.
Big tip for newbies: Talk to your affiliate managers! If you know an offer is doing strong:

1. Ask them to confirm what traffic types the top 1 or 2 affiliates are using. If the affiliate manager knows what type of traffic it is, great - sometimes they don't.

2. If it is related to the type of traffic you want to run, ask them what their CR is so you have an idea of what type of performance you need to achieve.

3. So when you go out and run your initial tests, if you know these big affiliates are getting 3% CR and your tests are showing 0.20% CR, then something is majorly wrong somewhere. Either you are on the wrong ad network, or have the wrong lander/optimization flow, or these affiliates have found the best placements to run this offer and that gives them a high CR.

This will give you some benchmark to understand what you need to achieve to make it work.

Taiwo Balogun aka @cashmoneyaffiliate:
(Note: Taiwo runs sweeps mainly on Push, FB, and Google Display.)
Currently what is working best for me are supermarket / fast food vouchers and male/female cosmetics SOI offers; and for CC submits, niche products such as Beats headphones and coffee makers.

If you're with a good network, you can ask them to request for a custom offer from the advertiser for you - the possibilities are endless.

Gijs Liekens @ VIP Response:
Lead-gen offers are still doing OK for us.

Mobile content offers are pretty dead at the moment.

Credit card submits have been doing INSANE for a long period already!

Emil Alexandru @blackemil:
For now I am focusing a lot on SOI offers that are custom-made for me by the advertisers. Offers that you don't find on the networks.

Best advertisers: It really depends of the GEO. For USA I would say FRST Media, for Europe I work a lot with Response Concepts (now Leadxchange).

Mathijs Kortland & Bobby Verlaat @ Sinum Vendo:
As of current, our top GEOs + combinations are as follows:
1. AU – Sweeps + VOD – Phones + Branded like Woolworth.
2. IT – Sweeps + VOD – iPhone XS mainly.
3. BE – Sweeps – iPhone XS and Samsung s10.
4. FR – Sweeps – ALL Phone types.
5. ES – VOD on sweeps kind of angle – Netflix / Streaming.

Arthur Kruijssen @ FRST Media:
Top offers are typically the iPhones and Samsungs for any geo on less-targeted traffic like push and email. For FB, affiliates usually need specific gift cards or products like smart watches, cosmetics to tap into niches of traffic.

(Mainly talking about SOI here, we don't have any CC trials ourselves.)

Liad Frydman @ Creative Clicks:
I personally LOVE Europe Tier 1. DE, UK, IT, FR are my favorites.
FR, IT - CC Submits
UK, DE - SOI

I would recommend:
Supermarket/Amazon vouchers
Iphone/Samsung

Erik Gyepes @erikgyepes:
If you are new to the sweeps vertical, I would suggest to start with SOI, just to get your feet wet.

SOI offers convert at much higher CR (though the payouts are lower) and you can optimize your campaigns much faster.

When it comes to prizes: Generally phones work well globally, but for example DE seems to work better with vouchers rather than phones.

As for geos, Europe seems to have been going strong for a while, but also keep an eye on new emerging markets as they can often bring low hanging fruit, i.e. easy profits.

Also note that day to day performances between countries can vary a lot, and are dependent on many factors, so it's better to run multiple geos so at the end you can balance things out, or just focus on the more profitable geos at the current period.

Neill Burton @ Zeropark:
Here are the best geos for sweeps on Zeropark, by conversions:

US, SA, AE, KW, QA, BR, PK, NL, BH

Asta Smagurauskaite @ Maverick Media:
Currently the most popular offers feature the latest Samsung and iPhone models. Samsung is slightly more popular.

The most successful geo for the in-house sweeps is Saudi Arabia – both in terms of quantity and the ease to convert. Its CR of 2.43% on Samsung S10 offer is quite impressive given that it takes the user through a couple of windows before he gets to fill in the credit card details. Moreover, it is doing better compared to the average performance in other geos.

Our second-best performing geo is a group of Spanish-speaking Latin American countries, such as Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Puerto Rico. Out of which Chile with 0.33% CR is performing the best. As you may have guessed, they are grouped together because it's possible to use the same landing page for all of them.

LATAM offers were in the lead for the first six months this year, so they have proven to perform well long-term. On the other hand, having an office full of Spanish speakers, we may be a bit biased when it comes to access of LATAM traffic.

Media buyers are usually interested in rare geos, as there is less competition to buy such impressions. This is how our top chart ended up with geos such as Kazakhstan, Lithuania and Hungary. Yet, we have even lesser known geos such as PW, AQ, SM, NU, TO.

When it comes to traffic sources, emailers are doing most volume in LATAM and SA, media buyers in rare geos such as LT and HU, and affiliate companies in tier1 geos, such as UK, US or FR.

Besides the in-house sweeps we offer other types of campaigns and verticals as a private network. Additional campaigns can perform as well or sometimes even better than our in-house campaigns. Such examples would be MovieVod for US CA SG AU NZ, that has 2.53% CR in US; or Streaming Direct Form, with 1.44% CR in FR.

Shay Fodor @ Mappstreet:
The hottest sweeps offers generally are the latest iPhone and Samsung devices and accessories offers. With the right approach, an old model can work too if you have prelander that explains why the promotion is giving away old models (e.g. to get rid of stock). Local supermarket offers (lead gen / mobile content) are also doing great as the users are engaging with the brands daily.

Best countries on our network for sweeps:
> Email submit: US, ES, NL, FR, IT, AT, AU, UK
> Mobile content: DE, GR, CZ, SK, SL
> Credit card: FR, US, UK, IT

Instead of posting self-promotion, how about joining the discussion by offering useful tips and tricks, to help affiliates succeed in this vertical?

Huge apologies @vortex but what does MID mean as in "For example match an affiliate that likes to use aggressive angles with advertisers that have lots of MIDs and therefore can allow aggressive promotion" I've looked at Charles Ngo CPA terms and Googled but can't find it. Thank you

Merchant Identification Number - these MID's are needed to facilitate transactions between customer - advertiser (and everything in between).

10-31-2019 02:37 PM #12 matuloo (Legendary Moderator)

To add to what stickup mentioned, advertisers with bigger amount of MIDs can manage the risks better. For the sake of easy understanding, look at the MID like an account number... once the account reaches certain number of complaints from the customers, it get's shut down by the bank. Advertisers who have many MIDs can distribute transactions across all of them, so it takes a longer time for them to get an "account" shut down and in case they lose some, they can quickly start using another one. While an advertiser with just one MID cannot afford losing it.

@stickupkid @matuloo thank you both so much. Understood.
