Tell Me About Shared Hosting/VPN/Dedicated Servers

Hey guys,

I'm not that new to IM but I'm REALLY new to this whole technical side of things. Currently I've got a Shared Hosting setup with Namecheap but I'm pretty sure I'm losing clicks somewhere - and moving into PPV will definitely increase that.

I bought a VPS for one month from Namecheap but I had NO idea how to set it up so I just let it run for nothing. I want to make the move though. Currently I have about 10 domains linked to that Shared Hosting account.

My question is - how would I make the move over to a VPN or Dedicated Server quickly and efficiently. I already have a few campaigns running on FB and POF with one domain (not my tracking domain) that I can't really afford to screw around with too much at the moment.

I also hear BeyondHosting are great with setting things up. Just would like to hear some experiences overall and what you guys think would benefit me the most!

Cheers.

I use ServInt (www.servint.net), they have better offerings than Beyondhosting, and their support is awesome, they can get you all set up without issues.

share hosting - thousand of accounts in a high end server
vps- a certain amount of users over a high end server
dedicated - you rent the whole box

Nngix + Varnish + Xcache = Fly....

Use BeyondHosting or Liquidweb if you aren't very technical.

Both will help you with your server setup and provide awesome customer support.

i am litereally exactly like you. Beyond Hosting was incredibly helpful for someone like me with very little technical knowledge. Their support is incredible and they set EVERYTHING up for me, transferred over all my domains, change my nameservers, they did it all. Highly recommend them

Thanks for all the help guys. I will probably check out Beyond Hosting based on jamesruhles experience because that's basically exactly what I need!

Ahh! Too late guys, already with BeyondHosting but happy with them so far

Just a quick question: I see guys talking about logging into traffic sources (eg Facebook) through their VPN. How does that work and how do I do that?

Thankyou in Advance yet again!

a vpn is a seperate service from your webserver (atleast mine is). I live in Beijing so it's an absolute necessity but it comes in handy for IM stuff too. StrongVPN as well as Witopia and ExpressVPN are pretty good.

I would go with Liquidweb Storm on Demand. Amazing service and top notch cloud performance. Easily scalable too. They'll transfer your sites for you if you don't know how...

+1 for beyond hosting, especially if you're going to be running tracking. I was running P202 on namecheap and had a HORRIBLE experience lot's of down time, they were slow and they somehow managed to completely screw up my tracking files . Switched to beyond hosting and I haven't looked back.

Do not get suckered into a cheap price, Web hosting talk is full of cheap companys that come and go like a stinky fart. Prices are cheap because A the support sucks or B their servers are oversold heavily to make a tiny bit of profit.

One of the best things you can do is do a domain whois on the company, see how long they been around. Traceroute their site to see if they actually own their network or just resell another provider. We own 100% of our own network and do not rely on 3rd party providers to provide our services. Trace route your provider, see who they really are.

Of course you can just host with us, we do understand this industry the software and the people. Go find another provider that runs SAN 15kSAS/SSD storage and offers a killer technical support center to back it up.

Thanks to all our customers that have replied the thread, if you thought our support was good already wait for the next few weeks, we just hired 3 new technical support techs and are about to roll out some new services that will put 100% of every cloud available to absolute shame.

I'm seriously looking forward to this (and hoping it'll be an instantly scalable cloud solution!). Keep us posted!

Wish I could give out more info, lets just say we are fixing a problem that every single cloud over looks and no one has truly noticed yet.

Oh yeah were also going to throw CDN space into our hosting packages free of charge.. yada yada, you guys need to start using our CDN, your missing conversion if your not hosting the images on a GOOD CDN. S3 sucks so it does not count.
