Alright brothers and sisters… fasten your seat belts. This is my first »case study« ever. The ride will probably be a bit bumpy.
A few weeks ago I told @twinaxe how much fun I had with his amazing campaign guide: https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...ed-with-a-gift
At that time I had a peak spend of $200/hour. It was a hell and heaven ride that almost turned me into a zombie (more on that below).
Twinaxe was happy (about my success) and told me:
»Lars, I would love to read your case study on this once the offer has cooled off. People need to see how great low payout offers can work.«
Couldn’t agree more on that. If I hadn’t experienced it by myself I still wouldn’t believe that is possible to come close to such numbers without years of experience.
In this regard… take this »case study« as an inspiration to try some of the things that you find on STM. So that the big fish are happy to provide even more of such gold nuggets
Step I: Preparation
»Aaah this is probably one of these big fish things. Easy for them to run. But can give it a try. Maybe I am lucky enough to get some of the crumbles…«
This was the mindset I approached the offer with. I was just curious if the multi geo lander and the creatives also would work for me.
I mean it couldn’t get any easier than this… or in other words: I couldn’t find any excuses not to try it.
So I downloaded the lander and searched for some images. Wanted to add a bit of my own flavour to the recipe at least.
Ended up with these 7 additional variations.

Step II: Making it work
Decided to do a test run in BR on push.
Initial results looked ok.
I let the first lander run for a bit longer. The idea was to get an understanding what CR might be possible and how much room there is for improvement.

Didn’t find any room. So I stopped push and went on with pops.
Already knew which landers not to use. At 100x payout spend I decided to only proceed with promising zones.

Yeah I know 20 conversions is not much… but somehow it worked and kept on working. Next logical step was »scaling«.
I was curious if the same approach would work on an other traffic source. This time I was a bit more patient. Still was cutting zones like crazy but let it run for a couple more days.

Now I was happy. Somehow I managed to setup a camp that was doing well for months.
The case study could have ended here, but… the AM gods decided to make this a bit more fun.
Step III: The Rise of Magic
Sometimes the impossible suddenly starts to work. You have no idea how this could be and that is exactly why it is called magic.
I was running a totally different offer in Africa for quite a while. Didnt see any more room for optimisation. I knew that several Android versions were in loss. Cutting those out made no sense since it would throttle the traffic stream too much.
Nothing to lose here… I thought. So I just set up a rule in
What a surprise… the offer was at break even though the traffic was optimised for a totally different vertical.
Man… there must be much more potential!!!
I smelled the opportunity and really wanted to know what is possible for me. Only had to make sure that I don’t compete with my old offer.
Once I set up a new camp I was surprised at how easy things can be. Didnt have to do much. I just took the targeting from the old offer and fine tuned a bit here and there.

On the second day I felt like a hero. Almost wanted to buy ice cream and have a »party«. Next day tho my AM pinged me:
»Lars you have to stop that camp. Quality is too low.«
Huuummmm… guess I have to buy the ice cream later then
Step IV: Scale or Die
I already knew from 2 different geos that the offer can work quite well for me. Yes… I don’t know about the quality, but I can test several geos until I find something my AM is happy with.
I decided to do my next test in India.
That may sound a bit crazy. But… the offer payout was just 2.4ct. I thought that the only chance to run this was pops. Push would be too expensive (judging from minimum bids).
I felt confident with my landers and started testing. First results were good so I used the targeting and put the camp on a cpa source.
This time I became a hero for 10 days until my AM stopped me :-)

Finally I gave up on IN since the quality was too unstable. Some days AM was happy other days was complete opposite. Haven’t had that dynamic in other geos.
Step V: Pushing it to the limit
So this where the zombie part finally comes.
From previous tests I had a quite good understanding on how to test a geo, interpret the results and finally scale it.
Most important part was that I learned to trust my process. Without that I wouldn’t have been able to go all in.
Well and then the next challenge was coming....
I always wondered how people make $500/day in one geo. This number wasn’t a target for me. But it was a number that could change the game quite a bit.
Once you reach $500 on a day the payout will be changed from fixed to the rev. share monster. I had no idea what this would mean.
In the heat of the night it finally happened…

Uuuh that was a scary experience. Instead of having a dynamic rev. share, the payout was changed once every hour. Bad thing about it was that payouts kept declining and declining.
When you run at 20-30% ROI there is not so much room for keeping it profitable. Only chance to get the boat through the storm was adjusting the bid every hour.
So basically I set my timer to wake me up every 55min. I then had 5min time to somehow get »alive« and not fuck up when changing the bid.
The next day I looked like a zombie and probably was one. But at least I was a happy zombie with the »killing« I had made.
Of course I could have just paused the camp. But man… when you have the chance to invest $200/h profitably then you take it and cry later.
Luckily zeydoo understood that I was running at the edge with my finances and arranged some speedy payments for me.
So to cut whole story short, this is my result:

Afterword
I know that this is not a »how to case study«.
Some of you may be disappointed that I did not reveal any secrets or explain in deeper detail how I technically made the offer work.
But the plain reason is: There are no secrets.
The real game changer for me was to actually experience how easy it can be to run the offer. And by knowing this I basically stopped all tests when it felt too hard for me.
In the past I was trying to make things work. This »project« taught me to put more emphasis to find offers/geos that do already quite ok without optimisation.
Last but not least…
The offer is still working although it has become very hard to make it work.
For a while increased payouts helped quite a bit. These times seem to be over for this offer.
Good news is that Zeydoo has several (new) survey offers. Shouldn’t be too hard to change text and image on twinaxe’s lander and test it with a more playful and less emotional approach.
Amazing case study, man! Great job. The zombie part was funny though
I can't imagine waking up every 55 mins. That's the real dedication
Hopefully you will have more of these campaigns and hopefully the new winning campaigns will let you sleep well without waking up
Thanks for sharing. You rock!
I knew this was coming, twinaxe mentioned something without revealing the details so I was quite intrigued to see the thread and here it is finally, great stuff!!! This just shows how much it is about taking action and using the knowledge that is already available on the forum. And that zombie mode... maaan, that's true dedication, I wouldn't be able to do this
This is rad.
4000+ leads an hour is fucking crazy.
I still love pops
In the end, how many landers were you running, all the variations, or just the winningest winneroo one?
Were you collecting push subs too? Does that add on top of the profit?
Yes, I finally spilled out the beans and hopefully twinaxe can keep his left arm
tons of push subs and backbutton. Haven't done the math here, but would guess that it is another 0.5 - 1k USD profit. Whoop whoop whoop.
Thanks man, you're a true hero.
Let me point out few bullet points:
- Basically a copy/paste campaign from a guide on the forum
- Offer payout as low as $0.024 per conversion
- Up to $200 spend per hour
- Pops are NOT dead
Many thanks and a big hug, was really waiting for it because this is an absolute prime example of succeeding with low payout offers, even very low payouts.
And the info is all in the forum, people just need to use it.
And as you said, there are no secrets.
The only secret is that taking action on a good guide just once can get you much further than reading too much without taking action.

Thanks so much @larsometer for writing this! I know it took courage not to mention a ton of work - you write well and should do it more!
It feels so good when you can find an offer that works out profitably for a high-volume geo!
Thanks for sharing the results with the rest of us!
Amy
Brilliant post! Thank you @larsometer
