Pinterest the latest buzz social media traffic source???? (51)

Lots of buzz the last weeks about Pinterest.

Its growing like a weed









First impression is that it will be a great site for visually heavy products like:
* food
* fashion
* travel destinations

Its users are primarily female.

There is no advertising at this point, although its easy to link to products.

Every single aspect of the experience seems customised. For example, the "Popular Pins" page is different for different users. Not sure what the algo is though.

No doubt people will find a way to game this site at some point as well.

Most links seemed do follow so it might have decent potential as a seo source for backlinks.

Thing is you will need to get people to repost your pins.

Which ever way - you will need to build a following.

With the volume of stuff pinned every minute, it will be difficult to get traction without a following.

This is one of those sites that would be a gold mine if they had ads or you could get your product/message "re-pinned" with enough users. The women in my family spend more time on this site than facebook. Its a time waster site like facebook which is the best kind of site for conversions.

My girl is head over heals for pinterest, probably 70% of the internet traffic at my house.

Ok - I officially label this Pinterest place as insane!!!

Ive peen posting some stuff today just to see what works and what doesnt!

Its probably one of the fastest ways to get feedback on images.

Find the highest pinned pic, and start popping that for the pinterest demographic?

the secret is to create a board that gets a lot of followers. Once you have that its easy to push things and get them to go viral

major topics that do well:
1) fashion
2) babies
3) wedding
4) food
5) crafts, nitting, etc

Did you build a following before? Any recommended strategy on doing so effectively, or is it basically just post cool shit?

yeah i was looking into that. there is no official api at the moment so youll have to rely on scraping/posting. What did you have in mind?

well yeah, an API will be blocked fairly quickly. just automate the posting of products from amazon.

doesn't matter anyway, i thought you could just register, i didn't know there's a waiting for a list for an account.

followers will then see it show up

thing is - this is all about real time.

there is soooo much stuff posted every minute, that your stuff get quickly buried

when people repin/like/comment it gets pushed back up the pile

fiverr could come in handy to give your pins that initial push to get them to spread

I have 1159 followers. Perhaps i could hide some affiliate links with pretty link and such.

Edit: Just for kicks I threw up a clickbank link and brought 500 repins and likes of fiverr. Lets see what happens

I tried doing pinterest for an SEO project for a month and decided the traffic was absolute shit for my sites. However, if you can get decent stuff on there it's pretty easy to get some natural backlinks for your site and coverup all the other shady links .

Here's how i did it:

1) site:tumblr.com + yourkeyword in g. image search. other good ones are infographic + your KW or "funny + your KW"
People post all kinds of funny pinterest-friendly images on tumblr. download them all.

2) Upload the images to whatever page you want to get backlinked on your site, OR put them on your own tumblr page and set the clickthrough to your own site.

3) Pin a few images each day and have your daily likes/repins sent to a dummy email.

4) Grab all of the repin URLs from your pinterest notifications. Throw those URLs in dripfeedblasts or scrapebox and rape them with shitty links to get them indexed.

That's it! After a few weeks of that you'll have a pile of "natural links" from pinterest that actually come from real accounts. It's a little work, but I think the quality is higher than buying mass repins from SE asians.

Someone more motivated than me could easily automate a lot this with ubot and then sell SEOers "established niche-Pinterest accounts" for $100 a pop. Pinterest services are all the rage on WF right now, someone please take this and hustle them. haha.
