I need to take some more initiative, I need to set myself a challenge to learn us much as I can, improve areas that are weak, keep my mindset in the right place and progress as fast I can. I feel like I need to do some something differently that will assure i'm on the track, so i'm putting myself on a 30 Day Challenge!......longer if necessary. Any other newbies who want to join me on this, I encourage you to do so. You will receive a huge amount of feedback and encouragement over a fairly short amount of time.
I don't care if my ideas get stolen, the point of doing this is to get my entire process planned, organised, consistent and profitable. So my rules are:
1) to log ALL my PPV activities/ideas/mindset issues for a minimum 30 days or until I am confidant that my process is correct toward producing profitable campaigns.
2) Launch a minimum of 3 campaigns per day - preferably 5+. Most of my campaigns will be using 2 LP's + DirectLink. I might just try and throw a few Direct Linked campaigns up each day to get this number up. Min 15 campaigns per week, although I want this to be 25+.
Areas I need to improve -
1) Planning- I think is really important to me. I need some sort of structure to keep myself productive. Seriously if I don't plan what I am going to produce for the day I feel I like sit at the computer for 4 hrs sometimes and don't achieve anything and feel totally lost. When I have an exact plan of my tasks I usually feel pretty good. I need to spend 30mins-1hr every night planning the next day. I think I need to keep a running list of at least 20 angles/ideas/url-demo targets at hand all the time so I always have something to roll onto or plan the whole week ahead on a Sunday even? Really like to hear peoples approaches to planning
2) Organising- I've always been kinda disorganised and I know it inhibits me. I know i'm very capable of doing anything but this tends to hold me back. I need to oraganise my campaigns with a better system, particularly under my domains and in prosper and keeping track of where everything is at. This is crucial I think especially once I'm trying to manage 30 or 40+ campaigns! Advice on this too!
3) Networking- I suck at networking on the internet ha, its funny cause i'm a pretty social guy and love going out/doing things with friends/meeting people/travelling etc but I feel like I don't really build any good relationships on forums etc it somehow just feels impersonal to me. I need to put myself out there more make interwebz buddiez. This is step one.
4) Technical Aspects- From where I was say 4 months ago not even having any idea what a .php file was, let alone figure out tracking, how to draw a rectangle in photoshop or use a geoscript, i've learnt heeeeaps on the technical side. Still sooooo much I don't know.
Ok thats it for now. Any advice, thoughts, criticism etc fire away!
Any guys who are starting out as well or anyone for that matter and wanna share thoughts, ideas etc add me on AIM/Facebook - Scott Seward
Time to launch!
Sounds like a plan, make sure to post EVERY DAY, whether you accomplish
anything significant!
Consistency is the key!
great idea!
so - you've got 12 hours left for your first 3 - 5 campaigns
looking forward to see your first post with results.
Sounds awesome man. If you stick to launching 2 campaigns or at least testing 2 LP's a day til you get some good profits rolling you should learn a TON. Just stick to posting everyday. Great way to hold yourself accountable and get it done. Good luck!
Cheers guys! Will be interesting to see how much I can actually achieve in a month.....
So I'm going to focus primarily on auto-insurance until I find something that works, I have some ideas for loans and bizopps i'm really keen to test as well.
DAY 1 - Completed Tasks
- 6LP's for 3 diff campaigns finished and launched on LI (waiting for approval) in auto-insurance targeting Modified Vehicles, Off-Road/4x4/SUV Vehicles and American Muscle/Vintage Cars. 2LP's and DL for each, targeting 30-60 urls with an initial test budget of $12 (4x offer). Offer is Lowermycarinsurancerates.com on peerfly, which I had 10 or so directlink conversions with on standard auto-insurance urls last week, but bids were too high to get profitable.
I have another 4 LP's ready to launch tomorrow that I finished yesterday for Luxury Cars and Motorcyles, which is good coz I have plans with family tomoz arvo/nite.
I'm going to start breaking my time into blocks. 1) monitor running campaigns 2) building 4-8LP's 3)Keyword research/Launching Campaigns 4)Update this follow along/read forums then brainstorm campaign ideas & angles/demo research etc and plan the next days tasks. Feel more productive doing things one at a time like this than going back and forth....easier to get a roll on!
Well done! Most people fail at this first hurdle and take to long to launch their first campaigns. You got over that hurdle so now just keep the momentum going. And dont worry about their approvals - they will come. Just keep producing the campaigns.
Also - keep a log for each campaigns where you got the targets from.
After 30 days, look back at the log and see where you got the targets from that were profitable. This helped me greatly in improving my success rate of launched campaigns, and reduced my required testing budget,
@tijn do u mean as in where I scraped my target urls from ie google, affexpert scraping tool etc?
yep. so your able to retrace your steps.
for example, if you get it from the serps -> which keyword did you search for, was it ad or serp listing, and which page was it on. if you got it from ad planner, using related sites, what was its affinity?
keep a record, and then when you get to 10 profitable campaigns, look back at your top performing targets, check how you found them, and see if there's any trends.
I will sponsor this if you guys want! Maybe something like every threshold you hit ie $1000 ill bonus another $250 or something to encourage you to reinvest back into your business. I would only do this with real newbies of course :-0) and only with the blessing of forum owners.
DAY 2
So i learnt a pretty cool tip a couple of days ago regarding the Categories in LeadImpact and manged to halve my min bids from 0.03 back to .015 by selecting a different category. Instead of selecting
"Automobile" ----> "Auto Insurance" or whatever it is i chose "Lifestyle" ----->"Sports" which is kinda the closest loosely related category with 0.015 min bids I could find. No probs with approval :-)
Completed Today -
Only had a short day today coz i got plans this arvo but still happy with what I've got done. Got 1 campaign launched targeting Motorcycles and I have 2 more for Luxury Vehicles and Smash Repair/Towing ready to launch first thing tomorrow, won't get approved til monday anyway. Didn't get them launched today cause I want to use an offer on EWA but I had'nt had https:/ set up yet for my tracking pixel. So got the security certificate from namehost and got Matt at Beyond to install it for me........seriously they're customer service is the best I think I have ever come across anywhere. Never waited more than 30 mins for a response.
Then spent another hour or so doing some url string research for a targeting idea I have that i'll work on tomorrow. Also built a basic excel template for my campaigns to keep my offers, keywords etc organized so I review the down the road like tijn suggested.
Feel like the creative juices are starting to flow a bit too, now that i'm not so overwhelmed by all the technical aspects. Starting to get a good list of notes/ideas on things to test across various verticals. Trying to think about strings inside the sites also and angles I can test ....i read somewhere around here that "PPV is all about the strings baby!", so I should probably take that on board :-)
Will post some results in the morning for the first 3 campaigns I launched yesterday........
peace y'all it's saturday nite!
It's always motivational seeing others hit it hard.
Your post inspired me to systematize setting up a new PPV campaign, which I did for a single offer campaign with 1+ landing pages.
So, this morning, I chose a new offer (to me, anyway) on a network I haven't run any traffic through, and detailed each step that I went through to launch the campaign. Going through the steps also forced me to finally get an SSL on my CPVLab hosting, which I knew I'd need eventually, but have been avoiding.
Anyway, I got the offer up, and have a nice check-list created to build off of next time.
I'll share it here for anyone who is interested:
----------
Landing Page
Snag offer landing page image
Build 5 starting pages using the following templates:
• lpt001 (these are just templates I've collected over time)
• lpt002
• lpt006
• lpt009
• lpt065
Insert proper offer link on the call to action:
• CPVLab, or
• offer.php
Make sure to rename file to "index.php"
Pick the next LP name from the Excel file [I create a uniquely indexed folder name for every lander I create]
Load them into the Sites folder [my local hard drive]
Upload them using Dreamweaver
Test to see if they load correctly
Check Speed - (target < 300ms)
• http://gtmetrix.com (to optimize if slow)
Offer
Check OfferVault.com to see what other networks are running the offer.
Grab tracking link(s)
Add tracking pixel to offer(s)
Tracking
Pull next campaign name from the Excel file
Create a new CPVLab campaign
Test Campaign URL
Make sure LP code was placed and upload again if needed
Traffic
Determine profitability statistics.
Determine URLs
DirectCPV
• Make sure there are no pop-ups, unders, etc.
@ Inversion - Glad I could get u motivated, cheers mate! I have a similar step by step guide written out that I keep next to me. Great for getting a systematized process down, I like trying challenge myself how fast I can do it :-) What steps are you taking to speed up your load times, i tested a couple of mine and they were ~700ms and suggested I gzip them etc, so i asked BeyondHosting about it and they told me the following - "by default we enable the apache deflate module with compresses javascript and html files on the fly." So not sure what else I can do to speed this up?
Camapaign Data Update
Data from first 3 AutoInsurance campaigns launched (i wish leadimpact would update in real time, seems to be a real lag in their data). No conversions yet-
I'm not sure of the accuracy of the data yet cause of the lag, stats are from prosper202 and I have input a cpc of 0.02 as opposed to the 0.015 LI is giving to allow for their discrepencies.
Modified Vehicles
Landing Page/ Imp/ Clicks/ CTR/ Leads/
ModifiedInsurance_LP1/ 197/ 3/ 1.52%/ 0
ModifiedInsurance_LP2/ 193/ 4/ 2.07%/ 0
DirectLink/ 195/ 0/ 0/ 0
So I've used my total spend up here ($12) and not got any conversions on this offer. So where do I go from here? Should I re-launch using a different offer and gather more data for the Landing Pages, I would want something like 1000 impressions on the LP's before making a decision on them right?
Muscle Cars
Landing Page/ Imp/ Clicks/ CTR/ Leads/
MuscleCar_LP1/ 66/ 1/ 1.52%/ 0
MuscleCar_LP2/ 65/ 3/ 4.62%/ 0
DirectLink/ 66/ 0/ 0/ 0
Only had a spend of a bout $3.90 so far so think I will add some more targets to the campaign.
Off-Road
Landing Page/ Imp/ Clicks/ CTR/ Leads/
Off-Road_LP1/ 59/ 1/ 1.69%/ 0
Off-Road_LP2/ 57/ 1/ 1.75%/ 0
DirectLink/ 61/ 0/ 0/ 0
So i'm going to add some targets to this campign as well to increase the traffic.
Will post my LP's for all the campaigns once I have significant data on them.
Back to it!
Same here about the checklist. The only reason I have it is to see if I can do it faster next time!
The majority of my improvements come from image optimization. I try to get them as small as possible. If gtmetrix.com shows a significant improvement for the image, I will download the suggested file. The other thing I do is use as html, css, and javascript as necessary, and keep it all on page. (I don't link to an external css file.)
I don't mess with any of the server / compression stuff.
external css files are only beneficial in two cases:
1) you have returning visitors or they visit multiple pages - the css will then be loaded from the browser cache on the 2nd+ visit
2) you have the css running from a cdn so it can be loaded in paralel with other resources like images from a location closer to your visitor
in most cases css for ppv landers is relatively simple and therefore just including it in the main html file prevents any delays in having to open another file
re: speeding it up further
check polarbacon's tutorial on CDN setup
consider minifying any javascript, css and html
@iwanturcoin
your ctr is too low. keep the best performing pages and create a 3rd landing page. try and get that ctr closer to 10%.
3 clicks to a lander isnt really enough to make a decision on the offer or targets.
stop the direct links when you hit 150+ views and dont have any conversions - they clearly are not working
Is it not too soon to say about my LP ctr seeing i've on only got ~200 impressions on one campaign and ~60ish on the other 2? And if I am to replace the lower performing ones now should I make a completely different LP again or work on simply making small changes/tweaking the better performing LP?
your right on the 2nd campaign - 60 is not enough.
i normally go for between 150-200 views before optimising my LPs if there is an obvious difference.
small changes and tweaking rather then a complete new lander
things to consider testing if you havent yet:
* geo targeting
* count down timer
* social proof
* effects (ie flashing border)
* clear call to action
Ok well I'll throw the LP's from my first campaign up for review, used similar LP templates to stackmans in his auto campaign, -
LP1 CTR 1.29%
LP2 CTR 1.72%
Criticise away! :-)
DAY 3
Did'nt have much free time today but managed to build 4 LP's, so should have AT LEAST 8 campaigns/new angles launched by tomorrow night which will take me to 12 for the week, my target is a min. of 15 campaigns/week so will well and truly kill that by Friday. Tuesday morning should be interesting when they have all been approved! :-) Time to go organize ideas and plan tomorrow and read up on how to splice my LP images in PS so i can insert geoscripts, never done it before.
Day 4-
Well I only got 6 campaigns up today in the end cause I am still waiting on getting offers approved ...meh they are ready to go so should get them up tomorrow. Added some more targets to 2 of my first 3 campaigns as well and did some URL research on some cash loan ideas......if anyone has any recommendations on any cash loan offers that are performing well that would be sweeet! ;-)
Should have a heap of campaign approvals overnight so will have a lot of stats to put up over the next couple of days......
Thanks for putting the landers up.
Couple of suggestions:
* remove the menu bar - im not sure it ads anything
* go for a helvetica / arial type font
* remove the underline on the title & remove the car image + center title
* add some vertical whitespace above the title
* test different headline - something like "Do You Pay $8/Week in Car Insurance?", "Save $500 On Your Car Insurance Right Now"
* remove the car brand/model reference from the subhead - it makes it hard to read
* test different CTA on the 2nd lander - not sure "Protection" is clear enough for people - check out some of the top performing insurance offers to see what CTAs they use, something like "Continue", "Click To Save $500", "Check Your Savings"
*
Very inspiring thread, well done.
@thistimenextyear Cheers mate! good to have you followin
Day 5-
Got another 3 campaigns up - re-launched 2 of my auto campaigns with new landers and a new offer that my AM at EWA recommended giving a run - so hopefully I get some conversions with this one, coz i've only had 1 conversion off 10 diff auto insurance campaign testing 2 other offers. Launched a new campaign on a diff niche and have a lot of targets to test it on tomorrow and am happy with my LP's and angle so hopefully see some positive results over the next couple days.
Saw an interesting vid today (below) on another site and got me thinking about what really is motivating me to do this. I mean i'm not gonna deny that making some serious coin is a driving factor but being out on my own and wanting to really master this shit is what is really motivating me.... really what is the point of doing any of this if your not going to go 200% and try and seriously dominate and go big! i don't wanna put in hours and hours and hours of sitting in front of computer for an extra $200 a week, thats if you even learn how and consistently build enough campaigns to become profitable. Fuck if i'm not gonna go all out i'd rather just go surfing.......
So to keep moving forward one big thing I want really get good at over the next couple of weeks is getting my LP CTR's right up..... I think this essential. I'm going to have to spend a day or so learning how to splice images to insert geoscripts etc. Anyways i'm gonna own this shit lol
will update some stats and stuff in the morn...
Thats a great video. I will ad it to the mindset post
Keep focussed and cranking out campaigns!
You will at some point hit a dip in motivation & belief - its human - just make sure you get out of it quickly.
That is a great video! Thanks for the share
Yeah pretty interesting vid
@tijn - Yeah I totally agree - I've had some frustrating times over the last 4 months or so!(hell tracking did my head in for a fair while lol) I feel like i'm heading in the right direction and just gotta keep improving one thing a time, i'm keen to get to that turning point and feel like its not too far away, just gotta keep on pushin'!
ha its to much of a pain in the ass to write out the stats for all the campaigns I have running but I had a couple of conversions one on each of the new offers i'm testing so i'm going to relaunch the original campaign that have'nt been converting with these offers and work on the LP's and get that CTR pumpin'! Once I get something thats getting some conversion and I want to optimize i'll post some stats....
Day 6
Well today was kind of a waste, got recommended an offer to run yesterday and spent all day building 5 camps, had a heap of really good angles/target groups only to try and launch the first one to find the offer had been pulled. Oh well, guess i'll find out 2moro whether it will come back on. Back to workin on my LP's for auto ins tomorrow and launching with the new offer!
Maybe you can use http://odigger.com to find whether there are similar offers with other networks you have joined?
What I find when this happens to me is that often I forget to in the end launch that campaign cause i kind of loose momentum on that one and am focussed on another offer when it comes back on the market.
If its too much of a pain to post stats maybe you could just make yourself a spreadsheet of some generic variables like daily Spent, Rev, Profit, ROI. Even if you choose to keep those numbers private it would be good for you to see where your at overall and what it takes to get into the green and recoup your testing losses.
Thanks iwanturcoin... for your detailed campaign and patience...what is that cool stuff making money in backend.... is this a joke or real ...any chance for me to glance
Hey iwanturcoin... very happy to read this whole thread and see your first $100 day. Very inspiring, and I'm debating whether I should do a 30 day challenge. Money is tight right now so I'm not sure if that's the best plan, but I would like to at some point.
Thanks for all the posts!
