Best Autoresponder - Single Optin

Hi everybody,

Any suggestions on the best autoresponder for single optin?

Bit scared to do it on Aweber and with Get Response deliverability seems to suck.

Cheers,

Andy

I know many who have used aweber without issue on single optin.....its more about writing emails and subject lines that don't set off the spam filters......

Yep. Aweber seems to be the one used most, but single optin is not possible if you use the email parser to upload your email subs. IContact is pritty good as well. Stay away from mail chimp cause their tos don't allow aff marketing.

I've used mail chimp without issues -they've never given me a problem but I don't do real high volume stuff. I did use their service to run an email list for a bizop we built that we were testing, and never had an issue with that either. Then again it was a small test (less than 500 signed up users) so don't rush in there and run heavy volume and be mad at me when they shut you down.

just want to pass on some knowledge from a mentor of mine (JVC) about aweber and single opt-in:

Sounds like there are a few things going on here. The first is that in my experience with Aweber, they absolutely positively do not allow single opt-in UNLESS the very first campaign you ever set up with them, was single-optin.

This is totally weird and makes no sense, but this was exp[lained to me by Aweber support. Your entire account's future ability to create single-optin (no confirmation) campaigns, is dependent on whatever you choose for your very very first campaign. If you choose double optin for that one (as I did) then your campaign is permanently flagged for double optin and can never be changed.

But if you choose single, then you can do either one any time you want. Crazy!

problem with mailchimp that its explicit in their terms of service that Affiliate Marketing is not allowed. So although they might not realize when your doing small volume - they could any day turn around and block your account.

Huge shame in my view cause they have the best service and api!

I was with them for a year until i decided to read the ToS....

Yeah, seriously, the MailChimp team is amazing - they always got to my support issues within minutes - and they sent me two tshirts. Not one, but two! I feel bad now that I plan on moving to another provider next time I run a mailing test, based on this development. That's a shame.

if you have a good relationship with them talk to them about it and see what they say. i just checked the ToS and its still prohibited, but they might be more clear on what is and is not allowed:

http://mailchimp.com/legal/terms/

Prohibited Content and Industries
Don't use MailChimp to send anything offensive, to promote anything illegal, or to harass anyone. You may not send:

Pornography or other sexually explicit Emails
Emails offering to sell illegal substances
Emails that violate the CAN-SPAM Law
Also, there are some industries that send certain types of content that result in higher than normal bounce rates and abuse complaints, which in turn jeopardize the deliverability of our entire system. No offense intended, but because we must ensure the highest delivery rates possible for all our customers, we do not allow businesses that offer these types of services, products, or content:

Illegal goods or services
Escort and dating services
Pharmaceutical products
Work from home, Internet Lead-gen, Make money on online opportunities, etc.
Online trading, day trading tips, or stock market related content
Gambling services, products or gambling education
Multi-level marketing
Affiliate marketing
Credit repair, get-out-of-debt content
Mortgages and/or Loans
Real estate prospecting or listing
Nutritional Supplements, Herbal Supplements or Vitamin Supplements
Pornography or nudity in content
Adult novelty items or references in content
List brokers or List rental services
Marketing or sending commercial email without proper permission

Generally speaking, if you're in an industry that is frequently associated with spam, you know who you are (it's probably why you're reading this far, right?). We make no judgments about your line of business, but we cannot afford to risk our deliverability. In fact, most ESPs like MailChimp will not be able to help you. You will most likely need to look into setting up your own mail servers. The term to search on is "email delivery server." There are many industrial strength MTAs to choose from with built-in delivery and reporting tools for high-volume senders.

+1 for iContact
They are solid.

If you're looking to do a real big operation,
http://www.volomp.com/ Mailing Software
+
Dedi Servers
+
Domains
+
IPs

Each domain needs an individual ip. You NEED .com/.net/org as .info is one of the biggest spamboxer

Then you need to clean your lists(that you buy/collect) against Spamhaus and spamcop. A list organizer is also highly recommended.

iContact is cool with single opt-ins? I'm going to have to give them a shot. I'm still a little down about this whole mailchimp thing. Hopefully they'll come around in the future.

I have single opt-in enabled in Aweber, but dont do much emailing whatsoever, have no clue how to do it effectively.

Speaking of which if anyone has a SOLID diet email follow up they want to test with me I'd love to talk to ya. PM me... basically I have a targetted list of diet emails and can get more with a lead gen campaign (tested) at about .50 per email, again ultra targetted (know people are overweight and looking for a product).

Hi Everybody,

Really appreciate the responses. Have been fiddling around with Aweber and it's true - there doesn't seem to be anyway of enabling single optin. It lets you change the settings to single optin but it still sends a confirm subscription email for every email that you capture. Get Response allows it but I really hate their system as you need to fiddle around with the code to include a custom button and even then it's virtually impossible to include a oversized button within the space available. Not to mention all of your followups going into the junk folder! Sounds like iContact is good but had a fiddle before and again couldn't work out how to include a custom oversized button in the webform.

Not quite sure what to do now. Love Aweber but for my bizop campaigns only about 15% of optins have been confirming. Grrr.....

Andy

Call up support and ask them to enable the single opt in.

GetResponse or iContact.

I'm using GR for years, and there was a time that my deliverability plumped - but once I've set up a domain key and SPF (sender policy framework) I went to the Inbox every time ;-)

You can read more about Domain Keys here:

im confused about the inbox thing.. i have aweber and most of my emails get sent to spam folder even though my spam score is 0.. im using a redirect as the link, and that seems to be what triggers it since if i remove the link/links it goes to the inbox... now what should i do so i can add links and still hit the inbox?

my tracking domain probably got flagged.. ehehe, but a new domain wont work either, not to mention its not good to use the same domain every time anyways.. should I just use bit ly or a url shortener from now on? I can just hyper link like purchase now or call to action links to the bit ly... will that hit the inbox? suggestions?

I've been using AWeber for many years and am pretty happy with them.

I also have been using iContact for a year or two and they have been great plus you can import your lists as well (very cool). I don't like that iContact does not have unlimited sending. It's pretty expensive if you have a large list and mail a lot so that's my biggest issue with them.

Just recently I started also using http://newsberry.com/ and their deliverability rate has been better than the others for me, they also let me import my lists.

+ for getresponse as well here, no issues at all on single! constant contact also!

Hi Everybody,

Correction to the above. You CAN do single optin with Aweber regardless of how you set up your first campaign. Explanation from Aweber below on why they may also send out a "confirm your request email" in some circumstances. Have single up and running with Aweber now and it's working great:

Though you have Confirmed Opt-in turned "off" for anyone who
fills out the web form on your website, there are some instances
in which Confirmation will still be required. We have taken
many steps to ensure that addresses are not added fraudulently
or maliciously to your list. Any subscribers added to your
account manually, via the Control panel, will always be required
to confirm.

When a subscriber fills out your form there are a number of things
that are passed along "behind the scenes". One of these is called
a "referring URL", or the web address of the page where they
filled out your web form.

If that subscribers browser does not pass along that URL, a
Confirmation message will be automatically sent out, to ensure
that it is a valid subscriber, and not a "web-bot", script, or
other malicious subscription attempt. If you click on a subscriber in
your database that wasn't asked to confirm you will be able to find
the referring URL where they filled out the form. If that "add URL" field
is blank, then it was not passed on, and they were sent a Confirmation
message.

Another instance when a confirmation message will be triggered
is if there are multiple submissions coming from the same IP
address. Also, if you test your form too many times from the same
IP address, the system will interpret this as abuse and send out a
confirmation message to the email addresses submitted through the
form.

Also there are some addresses that may always be required to confirm.

If an email address at a major domain is submitted to
your list, and the "user" part of the email address
(the part before the @ symbol) is four characters or
fewer, that subscriber will need to confirm.

For example, the following addresses will always need to confirm.

* bob@aol.com
* test@hotmail.com
* jeff@yahoo.com
* asdf@gmail.com

In most cases, extremely short user names in the most popular domains
are either mistypes, blatantly bogus, or dead email addresses. All of
those can negatively affect your deliverability. So, in order to prevent
them from being fraudulently or maliciously subscribed to your list,
they will need to confirm.

As always if you have any questions about Confirmed Opt-in, email
best practices, or your account, please feel free to let us know!
