how does it work exactly? how often does it happen? how can you find out if you are a victim of cookie stuffing?
no, I'm not going to start doing it, im just more or less curious
You need access to a large amount of traffic, and a broad offer. You load your affiliate link to said offer in a hidden frame so that their tracking system places your pixel, which is later referenced and credited for the sale when the user converts on the offer. It only gets more complex from there, but that's the gist of it.
Yup ^ Kyle explained the bones of it well.. I experimented with some Amazon stuffing a year or so back.. massive result, from popping amazon affiliate pages for high ticket brand items, using parked traffic (the providers are active in this forum).. I stopped it after a few days, didn't want my amazon associates account banned, I have some passive income from some old blogs that's genuine, and also.. it didn't sit with me ok..
The weird thing was, that most of the items I was popping for (samsung tvs etc) were never bought.. but the users were still spending on other items, and your cookie gets the sale..
you will 100% get banned (and maybe strung up) by anyone catching you tho.. and Amazon have loads of security to check for this happening (as do other networks)..
The only place that doesn't give a shit is clickbank..
I know it is way too late for the reply, but just in case someone finds this useful.
Yesterday I was researching how cookie stuffing work and I found this guide: "How to Combat Affiliate Fraud". It has a section on cookie stuffing.
Very informative I think:
