How do you run penny auctions on search? (18)
Anyone have any experiences?
Not being really relevant to this thread, but I just wanted to chime
in with my experiences on penny auctions as a user.
I spent about $100 on tokens in a local penny auction and I'm now
down to about $20 worth of tokens and I haven't won a single thing
dammit!
Anyway, I see penny auctions as a long-term trend and if I were to
develop a campaign, I'll build a site with good content about bidding
strategies etc and send paid traffic to with, with links to sign up
for the penny auctions in the sidebars.
Penny auctions are HUGE money-makers for the owners, and I think
they'll be around for quite awhile, as long as they don't get shutdown
by the authorities.
Saw an advertorial news style lander the other day linking to a penny auction site - was well done I thought and a good way to pre sell that type of offer
I ran penny auctions both using a farticle lander and direct linking. Ran them on Yahoo/Bing bidding on brand terms and stores until Bing decided these sites were "gambling" and dissaproved my campaigns. Then the big G... Google allows DL but no farticles.
Go after the big keywords like specific products and brands. Track performance and battle for keywords that you know make you money. Also, try to find offers where the advertiser isnt also running because you'll have to outbid them and usually thats a loosing game. If other affs are running it thats fine you can usually steal some of their impressions over time, but be prepared for a bidding battle.
Or you can just try 2nd and 3rd tier search engines that are a lot more lax.
You bid on keywords related to products up for auction or other general auction based keywords, then build a huge negative site/keyword list. You can go direct linked (what we did back in the day) or build a review style lander if you want.
Example: Nikon Camera
Negative Keywords: repair, sell, parts... you get the picture...

So is that Farticle considered "compliant" hence the fact that there is no really false reviews and testimonials?

When the FTC starts banning review sites then we should quick internet marketing.
The FTC's main problem is with testimonials and with being deceptive.
