That is a great idea!

You might need maybe two weeks, to test enough. Set a budget at like $200. Decide on a traffic source and niche to hit. Then share some things you learned and how you went.

It's exactly how the first mastermind worked that I participated in.

06-19-2011 08:05 AM #3 jamesruhles (Member)

sooo what is considered a newbie? >_< I've been doin IM on and off for over a year but havent hit anything big yet

I think we fall in the same category (i never did get a campaign proffitable - i was almost there and i did Nothing to improve CTR or CR - i just used the same simple landers, same shit,i started with 2000 - 3000 targets on ppv (that was stupid) and saying this shitt is not working and jumping to the next thing without analizing data ) - Do you want to compete @jamesruhles?

Traffic source :Lead impact -(this will be my first run on LI - is this the best ppv traffic source ???)
Budget : 200 $
Time: 2 weeks from when we decide to start (if someone else wants to join we can wait until we are in 4 or 5 ...10 that wanna compete)
Niche: I would say to go with ipads - lots off offers, lots of competition - but let's take an angle with trends so we can separate from the crowd.

Any other remarks, suggestions are welcome - PLS post your thoughts about this...

06-19-2011 03:03 PM #5 polarbacon (Moderator)

thread bump and I moved this to the newbie area......this doesn't need to be PPV can be what you whatever you want just set a budget....of $200

06-19-2011 03:11 PM #6 steezy (Member)

I'm in for PPV for damn sure. come close to cracking that egg, this should motivate me to push it that extra bit.

06-19-2011 03:11 PM #7 lifepow (Member)

great thanks polarbacn.

06-19-2011 03:19 PM #8 Mugga (Member)

Would be awesome to have an official one but I'm down. Got a few ideas I want to test out, just gotta fix this damn lander.

06-19-2011 03:59 PM #9 asianpersuasian (Member)

Not a newbie but I am a noob at PPV.

I'd be down to do this as well except on im TV.

06-19-2011 04:10 PM #10 jdrmar (Member)

there is no sign up form .Just say you'r in and i will edit the post and add your name to the list. And when we are all ready to start we should start a new post where we can share some data.Post how much we have spend CTR,CR, proffit (if any) or loss.

We could make an EXECEL file on google to keep track off our performance.(i don't know, other ideeas anyone ?)

I'm in!

I look forward to the contest and to see what people can do with it!

Those people with skills in the lander area will really do well.

06-19-2011 09:16 PM #16 lifepow (Member)

looks good until now 2 more guys and we can start on Monday i would say.

06-19-2011 09:28 PM #17 jpat86 (Member)

I'm a daily forum/blog reader with no experience in what a real campaign should be. May I join?

06-19-2011 11:10 PM #18 Mr Green (Administrator)

Anyone can join. The point is to spend, test, share and learn from each other. You will cover a lot more ground working and sharing with others than figuring it out on your own. This is extremely effective when you are starting out with a limited budget and time.

06-19-2011 11:21 PM #19 z6marketing (Member)

So the consensus is non-noobs can get in too as long as they work within the same limited time and money scenario and share their results?

I don't care about winning a prize, I'd happily pass up that option if it becomes one, I just enjoy finding reasons to force myself to jump into new markets. No better way to learn, really.

hahaha yes would be awsome if you could share some results off what one more advanced would do if he started with limited resources. And we don't have any prizes - but maybe it would be a good ideea if some off the BIG DOGS could give out some prize (that would be fu**** awesome)

06-19-2011 11:31 PM #21 z6marketing (Member)

Really the prize is seeing what everyone else is doing and getting feedback on what you did. That's worth more than a cheap prize.

06-19-2011 11:35 PM #22 lifepow (Member)

That is so true .It's better to learn how to fish then having someone give a fish to you.

06-20-2011 02:07 AM #23 Mugga (Member)

1. Do we have to use LI, can we use TV instead?
2. Do we have to use the same type of offer, like you said ipad. What if I did an email/zip submit, but something different like coupons or jerseys?

It's dumb and sad, but things like this makes me want to work on this every single day and post stats and see how others are doing also compared to me.

06-20-2011 02:46 AM #24 newwave (Member)

Great idea. I need this. Count me in. Thanks!!!

06-20-2011 03:27 AM #25 sith005 (Member)

I'm in. I'm a n00b for sure I've been doing this for about 6 months, but only seen minor success in 2 slightly winning campaigns. Overall I'm still well in the red, so this will be good for me. Is this still open on the traffice source or does it need to be PPV? If it's open I'll be using Facebook, $200 budget, 2 weeks starting tomorrow right?

06-20-2011 03:33 AM #26 Daksneezian (Member)

I'll offer a prize, if there is interest:

30 minute skype consultation going over your campaign to the winner and giving tips on how to scale to the next level.

Or answering affiliate questions in general.

06-20-2011 04:58 AM #27 netspace (Member)

I'm happy to participate - Facebook is my source.

06-20-2011 05:14 AM #28 Mr Green (Administrator)

Polar Bacon recommended that we put up $200 for the best write up, and $100 for the second best write up. What I mean by "best" it doesn't mean the most profitable results it means the best documentation. E.g what steps they took, what mind steps they used, where they felt they went right or wrong.

We couldn't say no.

06-20-2011 05:44 AM #29 jamesruhles (Member)

ive never even messed with ppv but hell im in, been meaning to get into it and this is a perfect excuse.

Also, for a prize, maybe not even cash, but 2 months free membership for 1st prize and 1 month free membership for 2nd prize... cause even though its still the same amount of currency, the membership is worth way more haha

also, just to make sure I got this right...

2 weeks starting on monday the 20th
200$ budget anything spent over that will not count towards competition?
and the niche is free ipod/ipad? like zip/email submits or mobile pin submits, or just any offer in the ipad/ipod niche

06-20-2011 05:53 AM #30 sith005 (Member)

I understood it as any traffic source, any niche, etc. Just $200 budget and two weeks. Or is this using a single common method/source and offer?

06-21-2011 12:44 AM #31 samurise (Member)

I'm in. Fairly new to PPV and I like the challenge.

06-22-2011 03:02 PM #32 Ruby Tunes ()

I'm late, but I'm in!

06-22-2011 03:14 PM #33 affdai (Member)

can i join today?

06-22-2011 09:26 PM #34 lifepow (Member)

yes @affdai join us.

06-23-2011 07:17 AM #35 samurise (Member)

Got a late start and did not get my landers ready in time.

Missed Day 1 and 2.

Updated my stats for Day 3. Testing more LPs.

06-23-2011 04:35 PM #36 buckeyefan (Member)

I think that the contest is a great idea and a great learning experience , However I really think that the contest should have a little more latitude with the offer . You are going to have 20 + people trying to push the same type of offer , pretty much will result in the vast majority of these guys will lose a good amount of money . I would never test 200 dollars for 1 email submit .

I would suggest – you have to run an email or zip submit between ___-___ amount . This way you don’t have bidding wars on certain url’s & keywords . And for those how take different angles can rotate different offers . This is just my .02 , I don’t want these guys to get disappointed in the outcome .

06-23-2011 10:08 PM #37 Mr Green (Administrator)

The reason we stuck with one offer is to prove how many angles one offer can be marketed in. You don't ever get to see 10-20 affiliates coming up with unique angles on one offer.

I am yet to see people bidding on the same URLs and keywords, that's the beauty of it. At the moment there are people bidding on movie sites, rich celebrities, sports stars, talk show hosts, there is a vast range.

Some have already found one angle that hasn't worked and decided to switch up. While others are just working at optimizing their first angle.

Question: What happens once we reach our $200 budget?

06-28-2011 10:57 PM #39 lifepow (Member)

i never did think about that. I still have 100 remaining budget.

06-28-2011 11:10 PM #40 scotchsales (Member)

keep scaling keep testing! but maybe report what your stats were on your first $200 spend

edit: just my idea i don't set the rules

06-29-2011 06:04 AM #41 d3so (Member)

My budget will reach $200 within the next two days.

06-29-2011 02:30 PM #42 z6marketing (Member)

I know I said I'd try to do a follow along campaign to post here with you guys, but I've been overwhelmed and haven't had time to even think of anything to do with regards to PPV. I tested a few landing pages I made for a PPV campaign promoting Apple iPad 2 email submits, but they tanked. I was a bit surprised.

The landers were blackhat as hell - designed to look like facebook, using the facepile "hack" that was shown here on the forums, using jquery popup boxes, etc. The basic hook was that I made up gossip about rappers, or took shit from the top news on ThisIs50, and made it into a pseudo-poll. Things like "Amber Rose Pregnant by Wiz Khalifa, expecting soon" with a picture I made in photoshop of Wiz Khalifa standing next to a (very) pregnant Amber Rose, with a nursery in the background. I was targeting Facebook pages and groups related to rappers and the rap industry.

Here's where I messed up, and I'm glad I realized it soon after starting the campaign. None of the Facebook pages for rappers really got any traffic, besides Lil Wayne's (and occasionally a few pops on TI's page.) None of the hiphop radio station pages, or fan groups, or anything like that saw traffic. Why? When you put on your facebook profile that you like Lil Wayne, you don't have to go to his page. You can do that from yours, without ever seeing his page.

Sometimes I think I'm lucky I can breathe and blink at the same time without messing that up, too.

Regardless, these facebook style landers didn't do well targeting non-facebook pages, so I killed the campaign quickly. I tried using the same layout with another campaign that targeted facebook games (figuring that those urls actually get traffic on a regular basis when people play the games), but that also bombed pretty hard.

I'd be happy to post an example of the landers for anyone who is interested, as well as the PSD file for the original layout. The only thing I can't include with that is the jQuery popup code, naturally, but I think a lot of people here probably bought it anyway. Besides, the pages should work fine without them. Or better yet, use a javascript alert.

One thing I meant to do was add each rapper's music to the LP to try to increase the chances of people looking at it, but the campaign was such a miserable mess that I figured it wasn't worth testing. I have little time to mess with that right now, between the blog I just started, my PoF testing, and some long-term stuff I'm working on. But like I said, if anyone's interested, let me know and I'll post a link to the URLs so you can all see what I tried, and post the code if anyone wants to take the ball and run with it. I just won't be responsible for any accounts of yours that get banned from anywhere for using the landers. I cloaked mine using CPVLab, and got them live by getting the offer approved with a simple image-based LP and a compliant offer and then rotating in the FB-lookalike landers and a better offer.

06-29-2011 02:57 PM #43 samurise (Member)

Man, z6, thats some serious lander you got there. Mine's just an image, couple of lines of text and a click here button. lol. Used jQuery on some. My campaigns not doing that well either.

I like to see a sample of yours to get an idea of diff layouts.

06-29-2011 03:03 PM #44 z6marketing (Member)

As soon as I get home tonight I'll move the landers to a different domain and post some links here (I don't want to out my "working" domains, haha) and I'll zip up the source and the PSD as well. Hopefully someone can find a use for them.

06-30-2011 01:26 AM #45 z6marketing (Member)

So, here it is. It's nothing great but hopefully someone can use it.

PSD for sample LP + LP Code: http://www.mediafire.com/file/klosjq...0LP%20Code.zip

Want to see it in action?

http://itsfree4.me/fbpoll/lilwayne/
http://itsfree4.me/fbpoll/jayzdmx/
http://itsfree4.me/fbpoll/wizkhalifa/
http://itsfree4.me/fbpoll/souljaboy/

If you plan on using this, remember you do so at your own risk. Also, I suggest adding music to it. Don't make the mistake I made by targeting rapper's Facebook pages. That was a bust.

06-30-2011 01:30 AM #46 lifepow (Member)

The landing pages look good. thanks for the share . what ctr did u get ?

06-30-2011 01:44 AM #47 z6marketing (Member)

It hovered around 5% CTR. Terrible, terrible, terrible. But it also got less than 1k views in 3 days of traffic. Facebook pages don't get the kind of volume you'd think they do on Lead Impact. My second test with facebook games as the targets did slightly better but the volume wasn't there either. Overall it didn't pan out for me.

06-30-2011 02:19 AM #48 jpat86 (Member)

z6, how'd you get the left part of the pages there? Where you can actually see the viewers friends that "likes this"? Btw, nice landers bro.

06-30-2011 02:23 AM #49 z6marketing (Member)

It's a facepile linked to the "music" page on facebook. Someone posted a tutorial on how to include those facepile hacks. Also as a warning I think polarbacon said in relation to those, they could be considered as a false testimonial by some people, so if you use them it's on you, not anyone here.

06-30-2011 05:47 AM #50 samurise (Member)

Those are sweet landers z6.

Thanks for the share!

07-03-2011 10:26 AM #51 jdrmar (Member)

thanks for sharing z! too bad it didn't work out. I think I would have changed the buttons to look more 'clickable' (no diagonal lines, different color to make them 'pop' more). Other than that there might be too much of a disconnect between rappers and ipads, dunno.. anyway, i'm just a n00b, take it for what it is

07-03-2011 10:27 AM #52 jdrmar (Member)

btw, everyone who participated in the contest: UPDATE YOUR STATS! (google docs spreadsheet on first page of this topic)

The problem wasn't the lack of clicks or the offer being too different from the lp - it was the lack of traffic. I made a fatal error in selecting my targets and designing my LPs. The idea was to make them look like a part of Facebook and pop them over the pages of popular rappers, hiphop stations, etc. Great idea in theory, but those pages get like no traffic - since most of the time, you add your favorite rappers in your profile and never visit their pages.

Think about all the musicians and bands you like on your Facebook page - how many have you actually visited the page for? Probably not many, if you've even seen one of them. Most people just type in the names of things they like in the profile editor and let the interface add the like automatically instead of going to the page and liking it yourself. That meant this fizzled out before I could even test it. Short of targeting broad Facebook pages that people are guaranteed to see, like the inbox or something, and using much more generic landers, this isn't going to work. And I don't have the time to test something that broad scale right now.
