How to triple your Facebook reach! (more people = more money)
People are always raving (including myself) about the importance of keywords in your campaigns. Well let me explain this a bit better...
- You don't always need keywords, but what the keywords do is narrow your campaign down to a more TARGETED audience.
- The more targeted your audience is, means the more effective your advertising is because your ads are only showing up to a select group of people who you've specifically chosen to see your ad. This will 99% lead into a higher CTR, lower CPC, and higher Conversion rate.
The final equation:
Targeted Audience = Effective Advertising = Higher CTR & Higher CR = Lower CPC
(i don't know if thats a proper equation but it makes sense to me)
You don't ALWAYS want a more targeted campaign, but for when you do, the following URLs are what help me 2-3x my reach, and technically speaking.. double my income.
The following is how i gather keywords:
1. http://www.google.com
I search google for my main couple keywords, i open up 30+ websites, scan them all from top to bottom and i write down every related keyword in a txt file. (ie: if I'm researching horses, I'll open up 30+ horse sites, horse racing, horse magazines etc, and write down every keyword i see)
2. http://www.facebook.com/directory/pages/
Now i take all the main keywords i found and search for the largest Facebook pages here.
3. http://www.socialbakers.com/
I take usually the top 5-10 most popular keywords and search for them on socialbakers, finding all the smaller pages related to them (there's lots of duplicates, it's a bit annoying)
4. http://www.twellow.com/
I search twellow (which is a decently organized twitter database of people based on topics) and i find all the celebs/guru's relating to my main keywords
I now go to Facebook and enter all my main keywords from #1, large facebook pages from #2, smaller facebook pages from #3, and celebs/gurus related to my topic from #4 and then i sit back and smile because i now have a targeted campaign of 620,000 instead of 191,000!

Thanks for the great post I have never tried steps 2-4 before but I usually get my keywords from doing going searches like step #1 but I have a question that has been on my while for a long time now.
Would it be better to take all the keywords that you find and separate them putting each one into their own campaign. So you get this huge list of keywords and you put them all in as your targets for an ad which is what I have been doing and it gives me a decent reach of say 600,000 people. My question is would it be better to take the time to put each keyword from your list and put them in there own campaign. I know that it would definitely give a better insight as to which keywords are converting best and which ones are loosing money because with them all lumped together you could have a few that could kill your CTR or conversions.
So instead of having one campaign which reaches 600,000 people with 30 keywords what would happen if you had 30 separate campaigns dividing that same keyword list that are say maybe 20,000 in reach each. It would still total 600,000 in the overall reach of what your promoting, but I know that this would be very time consuming. I just wanted to know if by breaking it down like that would it help increase CTR or decrease your initial cpc bid by targeting like that.
I just want to get your thoughts on taking that approach and if the possible results of doing so would be worthwhile. If it even has a remote chance of helping my cpc or ctr then I am willing to put in that much work especially since cpc has been the only thing holding me back from really profitable campaigns.

This is something I've thought in the past as well, but have never committed to doing it on a large scale. I've broken down campaigns in 2-3 campaigns, and it's a ton of work, because you need adjust everything. If your targeting horses, and then horse racing, you need diff images for each, it gets VERY time consuming.
..with that said though:
I'm very sure it will increase CTR, as the more targeted everything is the CTR is bound to go up - ie: cheaper click for sure! As for conversion rates, I'm not too sure, that would have to be tested. Overall it's a plan that will likley work in your favour, but i would first find a campaign that's breaking even or slightly profitable, THEN break it down into individual keywords, images, ad copy etc.
Hmm, this is wierd. I tried using some of the groups in polarbacon's list, and I am getting no where near the amount of people for estimated reach.
Example:
Estimated Reach
377,840 people
* who live in the United States
* age 18 and older
* who like barack obama
That number looks way off. Some of the numbers for other groups are way off as well. (I know the numbers won't be exact since it's limited to the US) Could there be another variable that's limiting my reach?

If you're going non-keyword targeted, and have access to keyword stats via api access, you might as well just target all of those interests and then optimise to keywords with a higher CTR. Who cares how/why some interests are giving higher CTR, just refine multiple times and run it all in parallel and see what your ROI does. Maybe people who like Barack Obama are 2x more likely to buy a 45% discount coupon on starbucks coffee.
