Whatup. It's only been a week since I've been here and already I feel at home.



I've gotten a ton of value out of the forum already, and as such I want to give back and build a real value-based relationship with you guys. I'm already successful (ahem lost $450k in a day once, on purpose) and though I've made some good money in IM, it was from my local biz agency and not AM.

So, since I'm launching a new company that will be my primary (btw sick-ass investors can PM me, just sick-ass ones tho - only raising a little more but still very interested in getting more "smart money"). I'm using AM to replace my income from SEO/consulting so I have more free time - I took my salary out of the proposal so I can keep more equity long term.

Anyway, this was the 2nd camp I launched after joining the forum, and after some deliberation regarding my adcenter ban (billing or something, explained later), I've decided to just give this to you.

I want this to be as transparent and beneficial for the forum as possible, so I realize that posting this for everyone to see might actually make this NOT work if everyone gets to bidding, but what the hell. I learned a ton just from reading so hopefully you will too.

It should be noted that I only paid ~$20 for the traffic to get it to this point BTW, as I used $275 in free adcenter credits which I will reveal how to get below.

This is going to be pretty detailed so I will list my key insights at the bottom. Otherwise if you want to swipe read the whole thing, heh...

The background of this camp...

1. Before I joined I was reading the blog and was inspired by the FB case study with "Twilight" Toolbar installs
2. I thought targeting young people was a great idea because I remembered that my 11 year old cousin literally has like 15 toolbars installed on his PC, probably thanks to some of you guys! (later disproven...)
3. I decided to take action and target young people and what they watch on TV (believe me I tried A LOT of it)
4. I found the TV Fanatic ($2.75 on MaxBounty) camp and thought I would hit kids with TV shows they liked. The result? -20% ROI
5. I learned that it was in fact NOT the age demographic that made it convert so well, but the IRRATIONAL MOTIVATION that the fans of Twilight had that made that camp so successful (as I will explain).

So, at this point, I have learned that kids are ADD and will click anything. Though it's a great offer, targeting kids looking to watch TV online just wasn't working - they aren't motivated enough to click through and make me money consistently. At this point the camp was -20% ROI though, which means it CAN work just needs some tweaking...

AND THEN THERE WAS THE OLYMPICS.

Oh, shit. How much more motivated could the ENTIRE WORLD be to watch TV on their computers than during the summer olympics, an event which happens only once every 4 years and EVERYBODY ON THE PLANET gives a shit about!

Yes, my friends I had struck gold.

After split testing 9 landing pages for two days, these are the results.





NOTE: Every single fucking landing page I tested initially was profitable. Every. Single. One. You know you have an irrationally motivated audience when even your dumbass "screw it I'll throw this one in" images get +ROI%.

Landing page look familiar? Damn right it does. It's the same landing page that they promoted in the blog on here for dating except it says "Watch FREE Now" instead of "Join FREE Now." K.I.S.S.

I don't really know what else to say at this point other than get the hell after it.

I was going to throw in keywords, but then I thought "Nah."

Pro-tip: They didn't like me bidding on "olympics" and manually set my landing page to irrelevant despite major keyword stuffing in meta tags/page text/alt tags (adcenter bot loophole). I think this is because it's like an international trademark and/or NBC and Microsoft are in bed together... who knows.

So, I bid around it. Broad match: 2012 online, watch 2012, watch london, 2012 basketball... you get me.

Shortly after this, I got temp blocked, followed up with support, and it resulted in a perma-ban.

This could have happened for two reasons:

1. I was getting major free traffic cause I used vouchers as I will explain, and had my billing all over the place... 3 names on the account, I've heard MS will ban you if billing doesn't seem to be impeccable...
2. They got butthurt that I bid around "olympics" despite them saying my lp wasn't relevant and said "FUCK YOU ZEAL."

Regardless, try this out if you want cause it's working now and I doubt they will block you one-off. If they do, my bad.

You should do it on a new account anyways cause you can get $275 free with these simple steps:

Key Insights:

1. IRRATIONALLY MOTIVATED PEOPLE install toolbars, not kids
2. TOPICAL CAMPAIGNS based around NEWSWORTHY STUFF AND EVENTS are great because people are IRRATIONALLY MOTIVATED to read/learn/watch/participate, and there's a lot of buzz/traffic around them
3. Adcenter will ban you if your billing appears screwy (esp new accounts)

Great case study, I was following campaigns very similar to this one a few weeks back when there were loads of advertisers bidding on keywords like "watch olympics"... But it looks like now they've decided to ban all the advertisers.

With that being said, would be interesting if this campaign still works if you target non-olympic keywords such as "gabby douglas", "michael phelps", etc.

Thanks awesome share man. I'm really confused with how to use adcenter. I got it running, but I can't see all of my campaign stats. I can't even see how much money it's costing me. I went to my campaigns tab, and it shows 2190 impressions and 9 clicks. I looked at my maxbounty account and it shows I got 83 clicks and 12 conversions. So it seems to be converting at leastl, but I have no idea how much it's actually costing me. My account balance shows 0 in adcenter so I don't even know if I got credited for the free adspend.

Adcenter hate toolbar downloads.....when I say hate I mean DESPISE. Cloaking this is the way forward if you want to keep your account.

Did they ban just because of toolbar downloads or because your landing page wasn't having privacy policy and terms? I'm asking because someone posted above that they banned everyone bidding on Olympics, cant believe why would they ban everyone? I mean if you wanna sell olympic tees cant you promote them there using olympic keywords?

I've been running a toolbar as my first campaign on AdCenter for about a month now. Multiple reps have seen the page when using the Live Chat Support. So far, so good.

Just tested the campaign yesterday. It got potential.
Spend $100, made $88, loss $12...
BUT, i spend 10-20 min time on this campaign.
Added only 5 keywords and no tracking at all and spend 5min creating landing page.

If you want to test something else after the Olympic games just change the image in TV
This was only in US, so you can target UK and CA too.

PS Adcenter called me today when I was having breakfast inviting me to get a specialist to help set up my campaigns on my account. I thought that was pretty interesting... Being an optimist, I pressed "1" at the prompt and much to my delight I met a lovely carribean (sounding) man named Lupe and after hearing about what happened to my account, he told me to get back on my horse and ride with them - on a new account. LOL I thought to myself...

Soooo I went ahead and got another $275 in free advertising (waiting on the $200 cause the author fulfills those requests manually), uploaded my camps from my adcenter desktop into my new account, and now they're live.

Yeah it's actually IN the book in the physical version from what I understand.

Could be wrong though.

edit: Depends on what version you get actually. Kindle is just fast, fast, fast but the author recently updated his terms page (http://www.kevinlee.net/book/) that he won't be manually sending out codes anymore for ebooks, but I doubt that if you're a smooth talker cause he's a nice guy lol.
