Display Media Buying Tutorial Requests

The search tutorial thread inspired me to do make this, drop some ideas about what in display buying you'd like to see explained and I'll throw something together for you guys about one or a few of them, just cause we love ya

I think it would be useful to see the testing process for making something work on a CPA basis that doesn't involve rebills. I've tested a bunch of non-rebill stuff on different ad networks but rarely find something that works. I'm interested in knowing how to make something with a smaller CPA profitable, like a download or a mobile offer, for example. I know the trick is high CTR, but sometimes I get the sense that no matter how many ad iterations I come up with, it's still not going to be profitable...

Id like to see high volume traffic, with high payout profitable campaigns on display banner ads/ media.

How to build your first media buying campaign ... how to research websites, how many banners to rotate at the start, how to set up an IO and how does it looks like etc etc ?
And what offer / niche to push when you first start.

Also i really like BrianB his thoughts.

Just a note, not doing any live case studies here (please note the thread says tutorial not case study), just methodology explaining with actual examples, so for those of you that are asking for me to actually go out and get something working then show it around, that's not going to happen. I'm happy to explain whatever you guys want, but the actual testing you have to do yourself, it's part of the job.... (that being said, I can show how to minimize risk and the thought process if people are interested).

Other verticals that can work in media buying that arent rebills are:

dating
gaming
mobile (IQ, Crush)
auto insurance

However, with these you have to be much more targetted and analytical then say with a Diet buy.

I'm liking the non rebill angle, I won't do a case study there, but I'll start to work on more of my thought process, I have an old example of penny stocks on text based buys that I can break out for you guys, and how to optimize it to profitability there, and for banners, we'll go with IQ and how to get that profitable on site buys.

+1 for the non rebill angle... the rest sounds gravy.
Would this be on certain types of self-serve media buys (ie. adbrite, buysell.com, etc) or direct individual site buys?

I'm thinking self serve low entry platforms with scale (Adsonar, pulse, sitescout) so that what I explain/show everyone here can do.
