What's the deal with Ad Exchanges?
Have any of you guys been profitable on them?
I have a campaign running on ContextWeb that is getting conversions, but I have to bid really high and it is therefore unprofitable.
It seems to me like they are a good place to test where conversions happen and go directly to those sites from there?
I'm not sure I'm "getting it"

Index - they're a good starting point to learn what working and get the ropes. They also limit testing risk as most big sites require large prepays to get started direct buying with.
I've been very profitable with exchanges/networks, they're a launching place to test new campaigns if you don't have the budget to put down 5-10k prepays at various networks.

hey thanks mattaw
any exchanges you recommend? or don't recommend?
Im playing with ContextWeb, Adshuffle exchange, and Adroll. I've heard Adroll is gay about affiliate ads though, but I'm gonna see if I can get my squeaky clean campaign through.
I guess what I'm confused about is... there are so many different exchanges. What is the difference between them?

index... check out SiteScouts exchange. They have decent inventory that you can go direct with later. A good place to access FB app inventory too if you have something that'll work there.
Adshuffles exchange is closing June 1 from what I hear.

Love sitescout.com - PM me about them, as they're good friends of mine
adbuyer.com - good for testing out right media exchange (RMX) ad networks
there's also self serve platforms like adready.com..

Been my experience as well - on numerous campaigns. They are willing to help but their advice does not always make sense for ROI.
