Facebook Ads: Should I learn by myself or go with an experienced mentor?
Hello guys,
I am a newbie to both STM and Media Buying. Though I have read many threads and done many courses for Facebook Ads and many more but practically I have started Facebook Ads since four or more month and I have only got negative ROI so I had a big question that should I learn by myself like doing mistakes and learning from it again and again or should I go with a trainer who is already expert in doing this? I am really confused though I know that in this field no one gets success at once and everyone has to face this phase but I want to know that what exactly should I do?

Yeah, the best way to learn is to do it urself->fail->ask questions->try again.
Always be in touch with someone who's better than you in FB ads so, he cud mentor you whenever you get stuck.

Thanks Rhino for replying. Actually I've started running Facebook Ads in third tier country but I what I got is negative ROI so could you suggest me some things so that I can get it somewhat to even breakeven point. I have tested many creatives and ad-copies and have tried different targetings too.

Running ads is the easy part.
Having the right landing page, offers to promote and targetting is important in FB ads.

How come it was negative? Start a follow along here on the forum and people will help you. Lay down as much details you have about the used offer, angles, landers, amount of clicks, ctr, conversion rates etc. Based on that we can be your mentor here!

Guys,
I have spent $783.31 on Facebook ads and have made $176 so yes in loss but that's not an issue because I know that I wont be successful in just couple of months. I know it takes time and patience but I really wanna need some optimization help from you guys. I am posting the stats from my dashboard. Currently I am promoting CPA health offer in India whose payout is $8. I am getting leads from it like I got 200 leads till now and it's been a month or less since I started the campaign but the approval rate is way low like 10%. Where am I lacking? This is the stats from the first campaign I got 150 leads (which is not showing on campaign level) I started that campaign on 17th Nov and the second one Herbex Joint I made on 25th Nov both are having many different adsets. I have spied around spy tools and used the best converting ad copies and images. Please I need your help to optimize it.

How many other offers have you tested other than this one?
How many audiences have you tested? And how many angles and creatives?
As for mentors - you may find some good advice in this thread:

Indian nutra owners shave off leads without informing the advertisers.
That's why i don't promote such offers.

Like when I see on my dashboard the approval rate is continuously decreasing so should I change the offer or should I let it run? I know but one of my friend who is working in Facebook since a long recommended me Terraleads network and the offer which I am running right now. He said that it is converting best and the network is not shaving the leads. Do you have any suggestions for any other offers or geo for me to start as a newbie?

@isha_18 just want to add Facebook does not like health/nutra niche. You MAY risk your account. Also, are you doing any follow-ups with emails for your leads? Again you should be passionate about your emails. And your mindset will show up there to your customers.
If your mentor(s)/"guru(s)" is the right person they will never ask you to "sell" right away especially on a social platform like Facebook where they aren't actively looking for a product or service(exceptions like catalog ads ruled out).
My understanding is that in the everchanging landscape of digital/affiliate affiliate marketing EVERYONE's a "beginner." You see 15 to 18 year olds having millions of subscribers on Youtube, where "bigshots" struggle and have their subscriber count come down. It's all about staying abreast with the latest trends and changing with technology. Haven't you seen a few of your classmates in junior college or high school leave the tutors dumbstruck with their analytical abilities or deep insights into the subject. As people get older even with "loads of experience" they get resistant to change(again exceptions ruled out), so yeah you have a HUGE advantage. Good luck!

Hey, i wud advice you not to stick with only one single offer. Sometimes the offer doesn't works and there is nothing you can do about it.
When i was testing push ads traffic, there was a time when i had found my profitability after testing 27 offers.
So, you need to diversify, everything you create will not be profitable, sometimes you just have to let it go.
But keep testing new stuff until you become profitable.

Ask network/advertiser for a list of people who already are leads/converted to sale. Exclude those people and maybe rejection rate goes down.
Also ask them why exactly lead are dis-approved so you can fix that possibly.

Still wise to find 2-5 similar offers which you can rotate on current running traffic. This way you can compare stats/rejection rates.

Sure I'll ask them for the list. Thanks for suggesting that. I have talked with the manager regarding this The problem with me is I got 215 leads and 25 got confirmed 94 rejected but I am not getting any status of my left 97 leads. When I asked the manager about that he said that for third tier countries they approve the lead within 5 days and if there is no status on it then we should EXPECT that it is rejected. Like how can I get to know what exactly is happening with my leads. I can see the rejection of leads within few minutes but the approval time is way long. I think there is something wrong somewhere. I maybe wrong but this is what I feel

First of all: If you're a newbie, stay away from offers that requires a lot of waiting for leads to be approved.
Stick with something where most of the leads/purchases occur in the same day/hour as the click, so you can make campaign decisions early while you're learning.
If you must run such offers, only run enough traffic to test your audiences and ad angles, then pause the campaign and wait until you have a good idea on how many leads have been approved, before deciding whether it would be worth it to send more traffic.
If you've been running the same creatives in the same campaigns and adsets, and the approval rate has been decreasing, it either means: 1)Network is shaving, 2)FB is sending worse and worse quality traffic (which means it's assigning less and less priority to your campaigns), or 3)both.
(Not suggesting Terraleads is shaving leads - they have a great reputation - I'm simply listing all the possibilities which is not dependent on the specific network.)
Either way, I would suggest testing something else.
And as is suggested by several FB experts above: Test different offers and products!! It's never wise putting all your eggs in one basket.
Do your research, identify several audiences, come up with several angles, give it your best shot. If performance doesn't show promise early - move on. It's not typical for a FB campaign to increase in performance over time - at least not much. So don't "wait and see if it will optimize itself". It's not likely to (unless the FB algo has changed significantly over the last year or so - I haven't run anything other than small tests on there this year).
Exception: Of course, if you have an AM or fellow affiliate you trust, that told you an offer is converting very profitably, by all means do everything you can to "crack" it. But if we're talking about the typical "AM recommended offers", I'd much rather split my test budget across several offers, than spend my whole budget trying to crack a single offer I have absolutely no idea would work out.
You've learned a lot from your current campaign which is wonderful! But it may be time to move on, or at least diversify.

Guys,
As per my current stats I am thinking to change few things for the ads. I see that in India people are not interested much in spending money so being a newbie which other geo do you guys recommend. Because as per my budget I am looking for a bit cheap stats. And as Amy said I should go with some easy flow in which my leads converts faster. So which flow should I go with? And any vertical or network suggestion?
I searched for CPL flow in 2nd and 3rd tier countries but I didnt got it anywhere I found CPA/CPI/CPS which is quite difficult being a newbie. I am spending money on Facebook much more in comparison to what I am making. I know that I wont be successful that fast but I just want to go with a correct flow in which I wont regret spending money.

I'm afraid I've never run whitehat in tier 2/3/4 geos on FB. So will see if other members can give you better advice.
You can also:
1)Do some spying on FB spy tools, or spy manually using accounts in your target geos, to see what other people are running.
2)Chat with AMs from various networks - ask if they have offers that are running well on FB for tier 2/3/4 geos.
Compile a list, then paste them here to get suggestions/feedback to narrow down your scope.
My guess would be that with retargeting gone to shit since IOS14, offers that don't require a lot of preselling may work better. So stuff like free/low-cost (to the customer) CPL or CPI/CPA should be worth a test.
