Back to Basics: A Push Notification Story
STM, it has been a minute. I decided to come back to this forum for some assistance. I started taking affiliate marketing serious last spring after getting laid off due to Covid-19. I had time on my hands and a little money saved up so I went for it. I learned a great deal but never really found any consistent success.
I'm preparing to start a follow-along. I haven't picked an offer yet, but I will soon.
Below are my plans as of right now:
- Run something in dating/adult videos; something with pretty women.
- Use Mobidea push traffic since I have some money in my Mobidea account to use.
- Pick a tier 2 or tier 3 country.
- Using Voluum tracking.
- Affiliate networks: Mobidea, Clickdealer, Zeydoo, or Mobipium offers
I'll be back in a few with more information.

I picked a couple of dating offers in Kenya to start. The payout is .70. I'm split testing two landers and three offers. I found a quiz lander I like on purelander and made two variations of it.

I jacked up my campaign off the top. I forgot that the offer was for a specific ISP. I caught it early enough, so I should be fine. So far I have 1 conversion ($.70) with about $1.5 in ad spend. I'll post screenshots when I get home. I'm really to early in the game to say much anyway.

As of right now, I picked up another 3 conversions. This campaign has gone down the shitter.
The numbers:
Revenue - $5.33
Cost - $26.13

I depleted all of the money that I had left in my Mobidea push account. I'll probably take what data I collected to another traffic source and test.

I think I've thrown away enough money running dating offers in Kenya. This follow along doesn't touch the surface of what I've spent on dating offers in this geo. It's definitely time to move on and test dating offers in different geos.
@twinaxe Any suggestions on good geos to run dating offers.

Yep, probably not the best combination
@twinaxe Any suggestions on good geos to run dating offers.
I don´t run much dating myself but in my opinion dating works best in high(er) tier geos.
Even when you run dating offers as SOI/DOI they are still subscription based in the backend where users have to buy credits to message the "girls".
In higher tier geos the people are more likely to spend more money on such platforms so I can imagine that this is a reason why you also find the best dating offers in these geos.
If you want to stick with lower tier geos try LATAM, I had some nice campaigns there.
Lots of volume and fair bids can make it worth it.

For sure, Latam will be the best option for you, but you have to be ready for higher level of competition, I guess everybody who works with dating and adult turning to Latam

I picked dating because that and sweepstakes are the only offers I've really ran. I made a few bucks in the make money niche, but I haven't ran much else. My AM sent me some sweep and dating offers to try. I started one of the sweepstakes (Palatine Territory) offers last night, but the volume isn't there.

@twinaxe
How do you approach testing and finding offers (push traffic)?
Right now I'm picking a geo, putting together 2-3 landers, 4 or more creatives, and testing 2-4 similar offers.

To be honest, a good part is based on experience.
As a beginner it can help alot to check which geos have many offers.
When there are many offers available in a geo it´s a good sign that these geos work good.
It also depends on what you run.
For example for SOI sweeps it can work very good when you have one strong geo and run many different offers there.
For click2call it can work very good when you have one strong offer and run it in many different geos.

Thanks for the reply @twinaxe
After reading your Haka thread I decided to sign up and test some offers with pop. While testing I found a couple of offers and geos that worked well, so I just started my first push campaign with one of the geos. I'll post updates later.

@twinaxe I'm back to get some help. I'll be starting a new follow along in the next few days. I plan on being more detailed so I can get better help. I tend to start something and get away from asking for input and advice. Any input on offers? Last time I posted the Haka offers and financial survey offers were the hot things to run. I've ran the financial survey offers a lot and they are not working as well for me. The Haka offers never did really work well for me.

The problem is that not every offer is working same for everyone.
Even when we run same traffic type on same trafficsources we can get different results.
Best example are the offers you mentioned (Haka and Fin survey), from my own experience I can tell that they both definitely work.
But not only for me, I know that they work for others as well.
It still doesn´t mean that they work for everyone.
About Haka offers, which one did you test?
For click2sms I had better results with Captcha/Download offer than with sweeps or dating.
Did you only direct link or did you run with lander as well?
For such offers the lander isn´t even that much for better conversion rate but also to collect push subs that can add up to a nice additional income.

I tested mostly sweeps and dating offers with Haka with pop traffic. I started out direct linking but I also tested landing pages. I have ran the Captcha/Download offers before in a few Asian countries.
With the Captcha/Download offers, what angle do you use on your own landers?

No, I am a true believer in the KISS principle.
Keep your stuff as simple as possible.
To work fast and effective there´s no room for fancy stuff, apart from this the simple things often convert better

I finally got a campaign going.
The offer:
Nigeria caller ID subscription for MTN users
.25 payout
@twinaxe below is a Voluum screenshots of the campaign I mentioned above. Do you think I should test more to collect more data, or should I start cutting placements?

When it´s only one offer and one LP you can just cut placements at 1-2x payouts in loss, depending on how aggressive you want to be.

Yesterday I cut placements at 1x payout. I also increased my bid from .01 to .015 because my win rates are around a 10% on average.
Below are screenshots from the last 48 hours and today @twinaxe

Can you upload smaller screenshots to make it a bit clearer?
So far it looks like there are quite a few green zones, looks good.
Is there enough traffic available for your targeting?

Very nice! ROI pretty much always changes when a campaign is restarted so don't worry about the drop for now, give it some time.
Looking forward to your results after a full day or once you reach the cap again. It definitely looks promising

Reached my 100 lead cap and waiting on quality check. Decided to look around for similar offers to promote and applied directly to a couple of companies. I'll probably run traffic to those offers in the mean time.

Why do you want to look for similar offers?
Why don't you first run the offer where you know that it's working in multiple geos?

That's good to hear.
When you have a good offer then 90% of the work is done already so to say
When you have the chance to run a proven offer in multiple geos that's one of the easiest ways for scaling.
And you never know for how long an offer keeps converting so run it as hard as possible as long as it lasts.

I've tested 5 or so more geos with this offer and not much luck. I just started another campaign. I'll see how it goes.

Ok, it´s a pity.
Unluckily that´s how it is, don´t get discouraged and continue testing

I have with not much luck. Even tested the offer on a different push notifications network.
