Ways To Improve Banner CTR

***EDIT some browsers may not show all the animation (chrome blocks the number of ani-gifs on a page...so I would advise you to look at this page in IE cuz most of the banners have animation of one type or another)****

Ok I get alot of questions about this in the forums so I thought I would start a thread devoted to things to try when you get into the display space....to help improve your CTR

Now here is the deal alot of these may work to improve CTR but not your ECPM (RPM)

So its all about testing and testing alot!

some of the banner styles may or may not get approved but always always push it as far as you can go...

as you can see there are alot of dif elemnts you can test from animation...types of animation....UI buttons.....curiosity....images that people can relate to (the baby form you tube)....etc.....

people often get stuck in this very basic mind set with banners....one of the best things you can do is get crazy with it.....often thats when you find gems....that bank.....

BE creative...and have fun.....banners are blast if you approach it with an open mindset.....

Got more ideas?

Please share yours

Thanks, interesting, I'm trying to learn banners from the ground up, and I'm actively going to test as much as I can and learn slowly over the next 2 months, hopefully to the point where I can start scaling up, and just pretty much know what sort of thing will work.

Wondering though, got anything which isn't dating related? I sell hypnosis audio.. cant be as aggressive perhaps, or boob orientated? Experimenting with simple text based banners at the minute, and also just different faces/images on them too... but might get more aggressive with gifs/flashing in the future... once I have this base of text / colour / format down..

^^ you can probably create something like this: http://www.the-warren.org/quiz/pendulum.gif and use it in your banners. Another great one http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...e_animated.gif which will definitely get attention I guess. Some more ideas:

- http://netanimations.net/Moving-anim...ound-waves.gif
- Lots of hypnosis gifs

For adcopy go with the suggestions in your thread

^ not sure if covered before although I got a sneaking suspicion Martin already knows of this technique, but sometimes livejasmin or pornhublive free shows can also work you just record, crop and move on

yep I often go hunting you tube for images....and i will record a clip or try to rip the video then convert it to gif (there is software to do this)

but you tube can be a great source for photos....

This is great, was looking for something like this, thanks - interesting read, real basics I guess, but i'll be following these principles as standard when starting out now.

Thanks for taking the time here - I know your post is a bit like "here, let me google that for you", so I do really appreciate it

Am testing a first lot of simple text banners now as suggested in my thread, am just going to wait another few days to get enough data, then I will cull some banners and go with the other later suggestions by stackman - just didn't want to keep bumping my thread for no other reason that to say "ok, ill do that".

Lots to learn, thanks

Great post Polar! @nusolutionz, Google is your friend (sometimes) just search for the software and add free. You don't need the "best" just something that'll do the job. Adobe products will do this, Fireworks, and photoshop. But, you can also do this in Windows Movie Maker which is free. Just upload the video to movie maker clip the section you want to use and export as an animated gif. Job done.
