Follow along "$1 guide" from Amy - StevenTH (Detailed)

Hi there,

As a novice, I am doing the $1 Guide and will be sharing my results as I complete the steps*.
I will be posting some updates soon so stay tune

Note : Special thank you to Amy for this great guide.

*I have made some changes to the guide according to what I read online and on the forum. Those will be highlighted in red if any.

Day 1

Initial campaign

Name : 2020-04-14 Mobipium Push Smartlink Multi-Geo
Date : 2020-04-15
Hours : 9 AM to 11:24 AM (Toronto)
Max bid : 0.0004
Daily budget : $3
Geos (recommended by my AM) : US, ZA, CA, DE, SA, AU, GB, AE, CO, FR
Operating systems : Android 8+ and all IOS (Heard somewhere that for previous android versions, displaying ads was complicated that's why I excluded them)
Others parameters : same as the tutorial

Results
PopAds :

Note : there are no Conversion, Conv. value, Profit and ROI columns since I have not setup the postback correctly on Mobipium (I forgot to specify the tid.pay for the
unique tracker parameters).

Mobipium :

Happy to see that I only lost $0.63 for my first campaign ($3 (budget) - $2.37 (revenue) = $0.63 (loss))

Next steps
Since I do not have the Conversion, Conv. value, Profit and ROI information due to my postback mistake, should I run the same campaign for another day?
How do you read these stats? Are they good? (any post reference to have a better understanding?)
Do these numbers enough relevant to proceed to the next steps (filtering on countries - to keep or exclude)? (I guess the answer is no, since i am not able to see the number of conversion per country and profit %. Any advice?)

I am also willing to have more data to make sure that I have a better picture of profitable geos. What do you think?

If you have updated the post back setup during the campaign, you will have data, but it will be difficult to check the real CR, due to the fact that some of the clicks registered before you update your post back may have generated conversions, but you do not know it.

Now that your postback is working, I will stop this campaign, and restart the same from scratch, so your data are consistent from the beginning.

Hi Jeremie,

I updated the post back setup after the campaign unfortunately. So as you advise, I will run the same one tomorrow at the same period to be consistent and compare the numbers then.

Thanks for your answer !

Good to see a fellow forum member working through the $1 guide. I enjoy running campaigns and trying to find an angle that works. After another day or so I plan on getting a 40-day guide campaign up and running.

Good luck!

Thanks for cheering me on ! Let us know your results for the 40-day guide !

Hey Steven, great to see your follow along.

Operating systems : Android 8+ and all IOS (Heard somewhere that for previous android versions, displaying ads was complicated that's why I excluded them)
You should only run Android because iOS can´t show push notifications anyway.

Since I do not have the Conversion, Conv. value, Profit and ROI information due to my postback mistake, should I run the same campaign for another day?
Run it again but create new campaigns for it.

Otherwise you have the stats from the old campaigns where postback wasn´t working mixed together with the new stats.

How do you read these stats? Are they good? (any post reference to have a better understanding?)
Just from the amounts ($3.07 spent vs $2.37 revenue) it doesn´t look bad.

But without more details like which geos converted these stats don´t tell much at all.

I am also willing to have more data to make sure that I have a better picture of profitable geos. What do you think?
Sure, more data = more better

But first make sure that tracking and postback is working, you only want to pay for data that you can use.

Thank you Twinaxe ! I took into account your advices and i am going to post the result for the new campaign (Day 2)

Day 2

Initial campaign (starting from scratch as recommended)Name : 2020-04-16 Mobipium Push Smartlink Multi-Geo
Date : 2020-04-17
Hours : 9 AM to 11:30 AM (Toronto)

Max bid : 0.0004
Daily budget : $3
Geos (recommended by my AM) : US, ZA, CA, DE, SA, AU, GB, AE, CO, FR
Operating systems : Android 8+ only (Heard somewhere that for previous android versions, displaying ads was complicated that's why I excluded them. Also based on TwinAxe, push notification does not work on IOS)
Others parameters : same as the tutorial

Results
PopAds : From my understanding, the best performing Geos are South Africa and UK because they had positive profits.

Mobipium :

Not a good campaign but it is normal i guess since it is identified profitable geos.

Next steps
I am running the same campaign tomorrow to have more data and make sure that I have a better picture of profitable geos.
How many time should I run this campaign before filtering the countries?

Hey Steventh, cool follow along, great to see someone else is new and launching campaigns

Are your conversions from the same campaign and from the same date? (17th April)

The reason I ask is because you have huge differences in your conversion numbers:

Popads Conversions = 64 vs Mobipium Conversions = 92

I have the same problem!

Next steps

"
3. Go through the report to identify geos that have made at least 3 conversions, that are in loss (i.e. has a negative value in the “Profit” column).
"

By reading this, my understanding is that we have to identify the geos that have 3 or more conversions and for which profit is negative. Did Vortex (Amy) mean that we should choose the geos that have less than 3 conversions? Because in the example provided all geos have negative profit so I don't understand why we should only keep the ones that have less than 3 conversions or none at all (by removing those that have at least 3 conversions so the first line).

How would that apply to my numbers?

Thanks in advance.

I believe it's got to do with statistical significance.

The more data (conversions) we gather on a country, the more certain we can be whether or not it's a winner/loser.

For example if,

- Geo 1 made 1x Conversion & profit = -$0.23

- Geo 2 made 150x Conversions & profit = -$0.12

We can pretty safely assume Geo 2 will not be profitable in this campaign because we have collected so much data to back our claim.

Geo 1 we only have 1 conversion which has given us a negative profit - how do we know this wasn't just bad luck? The way we test is to allow it to get more conversions.

I could be wrong here, but from reading around this forum this is the answer I came to in my head when cutting geos in the guide
