PropellerAds: No More SmartCPM starting this week.
My AM has been warning me about this for awhile, but I kindly ignored the warnings and it's coming up by tomorrow according to them.
SmartCPM is being phased out on Propeller. Starting probably tomorrow, your smartCPM camps will simply stop getting traffic.
Your only pops traffic options will be vanilla CPM or CPA Goal 2.0.
They plan on putting all of their focus into CPA Goal 2.0 and doing some hybrid with their existing auto-optimization features into that.
Still.
I liked SmartCPM and regular CPM, which is supposedly nice for Whitelists, sucks for building lists and is a bit depressing that option is going away.
Thoughts?

Thanks for sharing the information!
As a newbie using propellerads for my tests, I need to understand how to switch to CPM or CPA Goal 2.0. I already tested CPA Goal 2.0 in a couple of campaigns but after an initial boost of traffic the campaign didn't receive any traffic anymore due to the lack of conversions

End of last year my AM already told me that they plan some kind of automation for their platform but I didn't understand it that they will remove SmartCPM completely.
In my opinion it wouldn't be a good idea to remove SmartCPM.
CPA Goal 2.0 is fine but in my opinion not comparable to (Smart) CPM campaigns.
And running only CPM can get quite expensive when you have to test on fixed bids, especially for beginners without existing BL/WL.

Hi JayBot
It's funny I'm doing Vortex/Amy's tutorial and learning the CPM smartCPM and CPA model. So I was confused as to learn the smartCPM.
I chatted with one of the online support and asked and she said there is no plan to remove SmartCPM. I do not know if she is not aware that they are removing smartCPM?
Thanks
Sanjay

The support on their website is not the best. They usually just run off a script and can't deviate from it. I would be shocked if they knew anything beyond basic questions.

Thanks for the heads up @jaybot!
If someone was exclusively using smartCPM on Propeller ads (and that someone is me). What would be my next best option to use for pops if it is removed?
I'm just learning at the moment and not quite sure what my next step would be.
Thanks, Gavin.

You can still use it, and I suggest you do for now as it can save you a few $ when using no lists, it just may stop working soon. When that happens, move any lists you've built over to regular CPM.

You're not the only one. About half of my camps are smartCPM. It seems insane they would get rid of it. But here we are.
Anyway, since you've been running for bit, just copy over your existing WL/BL zones and put them into regular CPM camps when it happens.
The only thing to be careful with CPM is the cid pricing. Just don't bid too much and you should be OK. It's not
that much different.

Thanks for the advice jaybot. I'll keep using the smartCPM until they get rid of it then

Alright, here is an update about the situation.
I asked my AM about it as well and he said
No, we don't have such plans in the foreseeable future
Before I post the info here I wanted to be sure about it so he asked back and told me
100% we are not removing it
Maybe best would be when @
propellerads itself would chime in here.

My AM says the opposite. So I think the only way to resolve this is...
With mud wrestling!
Get all the Propeller AMs in a mud wrestling ring and have them duke it out to decide whether SmartCPM is here to stay or not.
... Failing that, yeah, I guess they could just chime in here.
But I would prefer to watch the Propeller Mud Wrestling™ match.

Depends on who from Propeller would wrestle in Bikini in a mud pool
Btw, I just checked and I still can create SmartCPM campaigns for pops.
Maybe it´s a special feature just for you

We'll start by pitting AM's against each other, I'll pit my Natalia against your Renz. You may substitute for anyone giving a propeller webinar.
As for the SmartCPM:
"The situation is not clear 100%, on some slices there is going to be limited smartcpm availability. Actually already is, but your slices seems to be ok for now..."
So... vague and ominous, as usual

Anyone seen a drop in volume on campaigns that have been running unchanged for a while?

Hi everyone!
We currently have no plans to remove or "get rid of" SmartCPM.
However, the CPA Goal model has been popular among our customers in the past few months. This may affect changes in traffic volumes for some bidding models.
@jaybot, thanks for sharing this information. We apologize for the fact that you were misinformed by our manager. But we kindly ask you to tag us here if you have urgent questions so that we can respond as quickly as possible.

Yeah, just got the confirmation about the confusion within propeller itself today:
"So, regarding the Smart cpm - there seems to be a misunderstanding, everything stays in place and will continue working. No need to panic, sorry that it wasn't clear from the beginning."
Still.
That, combined with the vague "This may affect changes in traffic volumes for some bidding models," isn't entirely reassuring.
But.
At the same time, they can't get rid of SmartCPM because that is what the majority of affiliates (single) run on their platform, and if they didn't make profitable camps there, and the algorithms couldn't recognize the most profitable zones, CPA camps wouldn't know where to send the most profitable traffic, and wouldn't work at all.
This is all conjecture, but I'm pretty sure I'm right

Good evening.
I have a question regarding Propeller ADS.
I am trying to create a pop campaign based on CPM pricing model.
Propeller ads have a traffic estimator for such cases. I would like to find out If you ever created your campaigns based on this estimator, and how real are the numbers written there.
Asking because I don't want to lose 500-1000$ in order to have a bad experience.
Thank You in advance for your answer

It´s good to use traffic estimators to get a rough idea about the volume and bids.
But it is what it is, a traffic
estimator so the numbers are never 100% accurate.
They can also change from morning to evening, Monday to Friday and so on.
So use it as an inspiration but don´t use it as cut in stone traffic numbers.
Asking because I don't want to lose 500-1000$ in order to have a bad experience.
Even when you would take these numbers to a T you shouldn´t lose that much money when you plan and execute your campaigns properly.
Well, at least you shouldn´t lose it on 2-3 campaigns or so.
Longterm probably all of us lost a bit of money on non working campaigns
