When we wholesale, what we do is find large, smart super-affiliates who know and understand email marketing, and/or affiliate networks who also run offers, but are smart enough to build internal email lists as well, and segment those lists. In email marketing parlance we are looking for people who “buy data” (where “data” means email addresses).
The benefits to wholesaling is I get to deal with, say, four to five clients who are true professionals, and will spend money in bulk on advertising in order to build a list. They don’t think so much “money in the moment” (although they do offset ad spend as much as possible with immediate monetization pages), they think “money in the future.” Their goal is to build a segmented, responsive email list, then send that list offers they have direct commissions for, as well as selling cpc email blasts to that list. They think in terms of building an ASSET, not merely “click flipping.”
I may wind up with a somewhat lower page RPM or CPC when wholesaling, but it is worth it to me because of the bigger ad buy and less hassle. For example, a network might buy all the traffic on my International Dating Landing Page and my “Stamina Page” landing page on a CPC basis, knowing they get:
1) the click,
2) the email address (which clicked a link in an email to get to the page, so they are a clicker)
3) the interest (segmentation) of the prospect.
One idea I have would be to offer to put their push subscriber collection window AND their remarketing code on that page as a free bonus for, buying, say a month’s worth of traffic.
Wholesaling is essentially a way to match the assets and knowledge I’ve built over many years with the assets and knowledge smart networks/superaffiliates have built over the years so we can both generate a lot of extra revenue without a lot of extra work. Essentially I am “plugging in” to the machine they built, and I wrote a pitch that explains the concept, making an “irresistible offer.”

The irresistible offer in the pitch above is simple, “you get to name your own cost per click” for my email passing traffic. Doesn’t mean I’ll take it, of course, but what it does mean is I’ll work with a serious email marketer or offer network to come up with a cpc that is acceptable to both of us so we can do business for a long time. To me that is worth giving up a few pennies a click, so in the pitch I make an “irresistible offer.”
This is my idea for wholesaling traffic. And now it’s time to hear YOURS.
Perhaps you are an affiliate or network who’d be interested in my email passing traffic, perhaps you have a referral to someone who is interested, or you know a guy who knows a guy. Perhaps you have a completely different take on wholesaling, or see an opportunity I don’t.
Let the ideas about Wholesaling Traffic begin! And for goodness sake, don’t be afraid to wholesale your own traffic, or at least part of it.

1 - Sell your push and retargeting pixel separately
Why not sell them separately. Sure might be a bit more work but might make more sense because say one affiliate might specialize in running push but not do much on Google. Whereas, using my example in my previous post, someone might be a shop owner for christmas present and would be interested to target married men but have no need for your push traffic.
2 - Adult toy shop
Have you tried reaching out to adult toy shops to sell your trafic? Not sure if it works but just a suggestion as it is difficult to rank for keyword in adult toys and if you had a remarketing pixel that could give them an advantage over their competitors when they bid on certain keywords or maybe they would be interested to try and market on your email.
3 - Ad exchanges
Assume you probably know but I think certain exchanges are running email list traffic now (such as Exoclick). So you could sell to them I guess.

How about providing incentives to your list to complete the desired action?
It's hard for me to give an example because I don't know what you have in your emails.
But let's say for example that someone is wholesale buying your traffic that is interested in Asian dating, and they are also collecting emails for a newsletter. You can say "My friend has this great newsletter for men interested in Asian dating....if you sign up for it (it's free!) I will also send you my 2 page report on dating Asian women."
Reading through this post after replying to your previous thread.
So by wholesaling you mean sending out your emails on a CPC basis or a fixed rate?
I personally can not see the appeal in this. You know your audience and you know what they like. Why not keep them to yourself and send them targeted affiliate offers?
On your rate card you mention the headache of the constant attention affiliate offers need. Seems to me that they need a lot less attention/work then working with different companies on a CPC basis?
- Offer caps? Setup a rule in your tracker to switch to a different offer.
- Offer pause? Setup a rule in your tracker to switch to a different offer.
These things can be automated fairly easily by using API etc..
- Higher payout? Negotiation takes a couple of minutes.
I also feel that you shoot yourself in the foot by wholesaling the database as the more people have access to your data the less valuable it becomes.
What would you rather do? Send out an email and get 20 cent CPC and let someone else spam the hell out of this address.
Or keep it to yourself and convert this person on a SOI dating and ME offer over time? I know what I would pick.
Could be wrong there.
You also mention that you send the email address in the URL and that people can then add it to their list? I am not sure about the legal side of things in the US but does a subscriber not need to be single or double optin? Sending it automatically via an URL does not sound very compliant to me.
Again, could be wrong here as email is not really my thing.
If you do want to go the Wholesale route I would do this with push subscribers. Add someone elses push script to your lander and sell on a per subscriber basis.
Or... Add the Monetizer push script to your pages and let them send out push messages and get a share of that. This way you will get recurring income from a push subscriber.
So... Email, I would keep the list to myself as much as possible. Push, sell on.
