My 100% honest review of Voluum DSP
Hey all!
I ran directly on native traffic sources for a few years, and around June I started running a lot of campaigns on Vdsp.
Here are my pro's and con's of the platform
PRO:
-My manager is great to work with. She goes through my campaigns and gives lots of good suggestions
-The platform works great with Voluum tracker, and events are not counted to my plan
-CPM bidding makes it a lot easier to evaluate ads, as they each get about the same volume.
-They have a lot of different native platforms to look for nuggets of profits
-It seems like the quality is more consistent then going direct. I've had very few, if any, placements that seems like bots
-After over 100 campaigns, I've still not had any overruns on any campaigns. This is truly awesome compared to my experience with some of the other traffic sources. No campaign daily overspend, no account drainage, no pausing a campaign but it continues running and wasting $$. When you pause dsp, it stops right there. So awesome.
-Spend volume and quality is much more regular than native cpc model
CON:
-the lack of cpc bidding requires a little more monitoring of ad performance
-Voluum overall seems very technical to me. I would not be comfortable setting things up if I hadn't done native before
-there's quite a bit of flux with native platforms coming and going. I've had some nice profitable campaigns on Polymorph but that traffic source is no longer available. On the other hand this leaves more opportunity to seek new sources.
That's about it. I'm a happy costumer so far.
in case you care, here are my results so far this year. Almost all of the profits have been this month. These have not been brand new campaigns, but campaigns that we are scaling from going direct on native.

Pretty nice numbers, not the highest ROI, but as long as it's stable
What's the overall volume on the platform btw, do you still see a lot of room to grow or is this pretty much the top you were able to squeeze from it?

That's encouraging to see and hear! Wish to get into Native eventually, dabbled on Rev/Taboola/Outbrain/Gemini in the past.
Interested in DSP but I had not heard anything positive about it (especially thedudeabides follow along here) until now.
This is good to know

Yes, roi has been very stable.
We are currently spending about $600/day... There does seem to be some limits to overall spend. For example, let's say you find winning placements on a native platform that has a '2nd place auction' system. Then it is bad practice to replicate these campaigns because you would be directly bidding against yourself.
On the flipside, Vdsp has an excellent feature called 'traffic opportunities' that gives you insight on bumping up your

That is awesome! Do you use TheOptimizer with Voluum DSP? If so, can you recommend rules to use?
Thanks!

Can you give any tips or tricks you use to optimize your placements if you use automated rules and landers etc?
