99 Days of eCommerce w/ Facebook

Hi all,

Glad to have this forum available, I joined late last year and like so many others took a leap into AM that quickly ended with me returning to the surface of other pursuits and responsibilities.

Some context before the goals of this follow along…feel free to skip through!

Background
Since last year, I’m in a situation that I think some others here can relate to, but I also would not encourage (there are more responsible ways…!). I took a permanent leave of my sales job, piled up whatever savings I had, and moved into the cheapest spot I could find to get away from all the distractions of city life.

I don’t have much in the way of hard coding skills, but I do believe (from what I've read) I can fight my way into creating, testing, and optimizing campaigns.

I haven’t made any direct progress in regards to AM since trying pops through Vortex’s guide (well made btw!) last year, but I have gleaned from my time in sales something that I am basing this entire follow along around — consistency.

The Goals of this Follow Along

Long Term Goal

Methodology

Traffic source: FB
Pros:

Cons:

Offer type: eCommerce

Why - Whitehat and there seems to be a consensus this is a decent vertical to jump into here based on my research, the "What's working in AM 2018 STM Guide", etc. Also, being new to FB I figure it’ll be better in the long run to gets some experience “cleanly”, before risking account bans when I don’t even know what I’m doing yet.

Plan B Alternative: Sweeps/Pin submits
Why - I’ve read through StickUpkid’s posts (Thank you!), and would give this a go from a Gray/BH perspective due to the information available here (more warmed up). I do think I need more experience with FB traffic before attempting this, but I am attracted to what I perceive as a faster "vetting" process vs eCommerce.

Budget
- $5K USD
- I anticipate this will be spent mostly on FB ads, with some odds and ends on Shopify plug-ins, domain names, etc
- While I am freelancing odd jobs to pay my rent, I don't have much in the way of savings. I hope this $5k will prove enough...

A Thank you to STM
I’m not the biggest Tony Robbin’s fan, but to paraphrase one statement he’s made that always stuck out to me is that if you want to be great at something, you need 3 things

  1. A goal with the drive to succeed
  2. A plan and action to get there
  3. A mentor

I don’t expect more than I’ve already gotten from reading this forum, but in a way that’s what it is to me — a mentor. So thank you!

, Haha that brought a smile to my face, thank you!

Day 1

I spent much of today working on identifying niches for my store.

Caurmen's (RIP; my condolences) Ecommerce Cookbook Guide, was invaluable, and I also found some helpful tidbits in the $846,365 in 9 months post by Sapven.

Both emphasized the importance of properly researching a niche, and to my surprise I actually started finding it a bit fun to compare my assumptions to my research.

I'm using a combination of FB (Groups, Pages, Audience Insight), Watchcount.com, Forums, Reddit, Pinterest, and Aliexpress.com

It's a bit tricky for me to rank the niches in certain cases; some have high forum activity with low FB statistics, others have high Watchcounts and no Pinterest activity etc. A few have all, but I'm worried they may be too broad. Caurmen suggested under a million as a guideline and I will follow that.

The more I think about it, I'm starting to factor ease of precise targeting into how I will make my final picks (e.g. a certain niche is completely male dominated and skews older vs another that is more of a 50/50 split across a larger age range).

Goal for Day 2
- Continue working on niche research, and look to finalize a primary pick with a backup

09-08-2018 06:51 AM #4 init2017 (Member)

Day 2

I did some further research on what niche to settle on.

I've come up with a final list of 3, with the following breakdown.

1) Hobby niche
- FB Audience Insight shows 350-400k members in the U.S., male dominated. A number of dedicated forums, has it's own subreddit, range of products + prices on Aliexpress from $5-$80+, worldwide, not seasonal. Watchcount shows auctions with 2000, 1100, and high 800s mostly.

2) Hobby niche
- This is a niche within a niche essentially. The primary niche has a following of 1 million via FB AI, again male dominated. There are plenty of FB groups/pages in the XX thousands, with plenty of active forums, active subreddit in the high XX thousands, dedicated magazines, etc. The sub niche which I am targeting has an audience of 100k in the U.S., and 200k worldwide, but not as big of a dedicated forum following, no subreddit, and is often discussed only on the primary niches outlets. That said, the Watchcount shows auctions with around 300-900 watchers.

3) "Solution to a problem" niche
- FB AI shows a following of 150-200k in the US, skewed towards women with 700k worldwide. This is a solution to a chronic health issue, and while not widely documented is starting to gain traction. That said, there are no dedicated forums/subreddits -- it falls into a larger niche which is in the millions and does dedicated magazines/forums/etc. Watchcount shows auctions for this type of product to be around 150-250 watchers.

Overall, I've found FB Audience Insights along with Watchcount to be pretty helpful in trying to understand the viability of the products and niches I'm aiming at.

That said, I'm not entirely sure what a high or decent numbers of watchers is on an Ebay auction via Watchcount. The low thousands such as #1 seems like a good bet, but if that's too broad then perhaps #2 or #3 are better.

For now, I'm satisfied with the 3 options, and believe I could learn some valuable information from testing any or all of them. I will likely either start with option #1 or #3 -- broadest or narrowest in terms of size. If anyone has any opinions, happy to hear them!

Goal for Day 3
- Start the beginning steps of building my Shopify store

09-08-2018 07:06 AM #5 stickupkid (Senior Moderator)

Be careful with option 3. Any health related stuff is tricky on FB. But it’s the only option targeting women, who in general convert best!

Thanks stickup kid, good info to keep in mind.

I actually ended up going with Option #2, which amid the benefits I listed also happens to be a product that people need to "restock" on fairly often.

Upon further research into Option #1, I found on forums that enough of the interest seemed to be dedicated towards details/craftsmanship -- hard to gauge that quality on Aliexpress (without ordering the item myself).

Day 3

What a long day!

Being completely new to Shopify, I spent a good portion of the day understanding the platform, creating my store, and getting acclimated to the plug-ins.

Again, Caurmen's eCommerce Cookbook Guide (Part 2) was essential to guiding me along.

I'm still working on adding products and pricing. Not sure how many products to add, but I'm going with around 5-6 for now. Some of the products have different colors/sizes -- with variations between 6-24.

Goal for Day 4
- Finalize all products on the store & polish up site for review

09-10-2018 07:35 AM #7 init2017 (Member)

Day 4

In between way too many Sunday distractions, I forged on ahead to tidy up my Shopify store!

I got all my products listed, a total of 5, and took a stab at copywriting on each of them while correcting any spelling errors. Adjusted variations as needed, tagged, and checked the SEO excerpts as well.

The photos looked good, so I left them for the most part. Although some photos did have branding, which I left, but I wonder if I should crop or delete that...

For pricing, I factored in ePacket, as well as comparing to Amazon (only 1-2 products were even listed there). I marked up between 75%-100%.

**Note - I'm considering posting the store on reddit to see if I can get any feedback. If it's a good idea to post it here, please let me know!

Goal for Day 5
- Focus on Facebook. Add content to FB Page, create IG, and start working on FB ads

09-11-2018 06:09 AM #8 init2017 (Member)

Day 5

True to my word, I spent most of today focusing on Facebook, with some more polishing of my Shopify store.

I probably spent too much time reading about FB/Shopify -- being new to those platforms (from a business perspective) I let my curiosity get the best of me and ran wild on forums/youtube.

I did polish up my FB Business page, and create an IG as well with a few posts + follows.

I'm currently working on my ad sets, and found these 2 threads to guide me along:
- Caurmen's ECommerce Cookbook guide Part 3 (obviously )
- Ecommerce facebook ad examples

Goal for Day 6
- Create ad copies, final review of site/products for any mistakes, and launch ads on FB!

09-11-2018 06:25 AM #9 stickupkid (Senior Moderator)

Good luck!

09-12-2018 01:59 AM #10 init2017 (Member)

Day 6

Today started out great, and ended on a bad note...

I managed to wrap my ahead around FB Ads for the most part. Made a campaign, adset, created 5 different page post ads.

Before putting in my credit card to kick the ads off, I reviewed the site one last time. Ended up fixing shipping rates to free, tested FB Pixel + Analytics (all good), and posted the site to reddit for feedback (nothing yet).

Feeling pretty good, I dropped in my credit card to Facebook for one ad to get started (2 hours from this post time), and was about to add the other 4 ads into that adset, when...I left momentarily and came back to a "refresh your page notice".

On refresh I was logged out, and mis-entered my password 2-3x (I stay logged in and forgot it), and went to reset my password. Once I logged in I was greeted with the hospitality FB is great at and asked for a "Selfie verification".

So I submitted it and am currently locked out until they hopefully approve it. I got an email saying my ad was approved (only 1, didn't post the rest) and would be running. Anyways, hope this FB Selfie approval won't take ages, particularly as I don't even have any photos of me on the account; I need to add the rest of my ads up.

Goal for Day 7
- Pray FB unlocks my account and add in the rest of my ads + adsets

09-13-2018 05:18 AM #11 init2017 (Member)

Day 7

Well it looks my clean intentions to WH didn't work as well in reality. Facebook finally unlocked my account towards the end of the day. I logged in and they disabled my Ads account and are asking for a bunch more verification, including a government ID.

I opened the account under a random email/name, so it looks like I'll have to trash it.

I'm planning on copying the ads and FB Business Page to a new account (and deleting them off this one) and using a different credit card.

Does anyone know if FB will flag a new account with a duplicate business page/ad setup? I will be deleting the FB Business Page/FB Ad Posts before recreating, but if I'm setting myself up for another ban please let me know! Thank you!!

Goal for Day 8
- Rebuild Ads/FB Page under new account, finally get ads running so I can test this thing!

**FB Day 8 - Day 9999 Goal
- Never forget or mistype my FB password again -- always log on from the same computer and same IP

09-13-2018 07:09 AM #12 stickupkid (Senior Moderator)

So the account is new, made up with random name and e-mail? How old was the account? And how you going to setup the new account? Remember Facebook is very strict on accounts only made for advertising. Asking for an instant ban! You need to warm it up with natural behaviour, acting like you are a real human etc.

Perhaps it's best to ask friends/family if you can use their ad manager to run ads, since these accounts are real and warmed up already!

Hi Stickupkid,

The account was less than a week old, I added a profile picture but didn't build out any interests or pages -- etc. Yes, it was a random name and email.

Well I was planning on just opening another FB account, with a new email/name...I don't have a personal FB, so looks like I'll need to start several accounts and warm them up slowly.

I'll see if I can use a friend's FB.

Thanks for the advice!

09-14-2018 05:16 AM #14 init2017 (Member)

Day 8

A small success!

I rebuilt my ads and FB Business Page on another account and my adsets are approved and currently running. If you read my Day 7 update, here's what steps I took to rebuild:

- Bought a new domain name for Shopify
- Signed up for a new Gmail, and signed up for a new FB account (same day). I liked a few pages on FB and posted some status updates, but nothing major.
- Duplicated FB Business page, but made slight change to name and put the new domain in (deleted old FB Business page)
- Rebuilt ads almost exactly the same, but used a different credit card

I'm not sure which step made the difference (e.g. new credit card), or if any really mattered but this was simple enough for me to do and I'm glad it worked. Either way, I am currently warming up several new FB accounts to prepare myself for next time.

I'm planning on letting the ads run for 2 days, before I consider creating another campaign for another product on the store. In the meantime, I will create another Shopify store for Niche #3 (see Day 2 post) to keep me busy.

Goal for Day 9
- Review adset progress (will post here), and begin work on another Shopify store (Niche #3)

Thanks for reading!

09-14-2018 07:18 AM #15 stickupkid (Senior Moderator)

I am not sure your method will hold on strong, but good to see some progress and you are happy haha! Normally an account needs to be warmed up for months, but maybe yours are dodging the balls here. Fingers crossed man!

True, I wasn't expecting it to work either, but for now I will take it! Thanks stickup!

Day 9

My ads continued to run today, but so far no conversations (items bought) in my store. I had around 90 clicks and spent $13 when I checked. I will post detailed analytics tomorrow as it will be 2 full days then.

With the campaign running, I started working on my second store for Niche #3. Domain name has been bought, and I've been working on which products/angles I want to use.

Based on Caurmen's eCommerce Part 3 guide, it seems like he recommended the following test patterns:

- Create Campaign for Product #1. Let it run for 4 days.
- While Product #1 campaign is running, create campaign for Product #2
- etc for 4-5 products

After 4 days, each of the campaigns are then analyzed, and adjustments are made based on level of success.

With the above approach, I don't think I will have a problem in creating a second store while making campaigns for the first; I have enough time and am willing to spend it here.

I am curious what other approaches people have used to test eCommerce products...

Goal for Day 10
- Analyze FB ads currently running. Create campaign for Product #2 on current store. Continue working on Store #2.

09-16-2018 02:29 PM #17 init2017 (Member)

Day 10

My Facebook business page was taken down with the following notice "It looks like recent activity on your page doesn't follow the Facebook Pages Terms."

I really have no idea what could have caused that, I have 3-4 posts, with only 1 pushing a product and the other 3 are just plain status updates.

I appealed the page ban and am waiting to see that they say...

In the meantime, here are the statistics from 2 days of running my ads. I believe the ads are currently stopped although they show "Active" -- the FB Business page is down so that would mean they stop the ads too right?

- FB Ad performance + Shopify analytics https://imgur.com/a/quFNXmA

So far 0 conversions.

While I await the FB Page Ban appeal results, I've almost completed my Shopify Store #2.

Goal for Day 11
- Polish up Store #2. Create FB Business Page + IG for Store #2.

09-17-2018 06:24 AM #18 init2017 (Member)

Day 11

My FB Business Page is still banned for now, I hope to see a reply to my appeal within the next few days.

I worked more on Store #2 today, but admittedly didn't get as much done as I hoped. I'm adding a bit more content than Store #1 to give it more credibility as it is geared towards a health niche.

Ads for Store #1 appear to be paused due to the FB Business page being taken down -- no conversions today either.

Looking forward to putting in more hours tomorrow and getting a lot more done!

Goal for Day 12
- Finish Store #2. Start brainstorming angles/ideas/pictures for FB Ad Campaign.

09-18-2018 05:55 AM #19 init2017 (Member)

Day 12

Store #2 is about 90% finished (ahh so close to done ). Fortunately, as I touched up the store I got some fresh ideas on how I might end up doing my ads/targeting.

Store #1 FB Business page is still down...no response to my appeal yet. If you'd like to see the page (and by proxy the store), I posted a thread with images in the main section.

Goal for Day 13

- Finish Store #2, seriously this time! Start formally working on FB Ad campaign for Store #2. Check on Store #1 status.

09-19-2018 01:54 PM #20 init2017 (Member)

Day 13

Store #2 is finished!

I also got a response from FB regarding Store #1's FB Business page -- they published it. I still don't know why it was taken down in the first place (will post up my store + FB page soon for critique).

Goal for Day 14

- Start FB Ad Campaign for Product #2 on Store #1 (now that the FB page is back up). Research angles for FB Ad Campaign for Product #1 on Store #2.

09-20-2018 03:49 AM #21 init2017 (Member)

Day 14

What a rollercoaster ride FB is.

After working for hours on images and copy, I went to post my new FB campaign for Product #2 (and even had one for product #3) and immediately after my account was auto-logged off.

FB is again asking for a selfie verification, and predictably I'm sure the Ad account will require identity confirmation as well. I'm using a burner account that is about a week old (if you haven't read old posts). Yes, I know stickupkid told me this would probably happen, maybe he knows what he is talking about

Unfortunately, I never was a fan of FB and don't have my own account with established history. A close friend is allowing me to use their account which was created 5 years ago, with real friends, but not many logins/updates for months.

It is a bit frustrating, and I'm realizing that my biggest obstacle to succeeding right now is basically just getting my ads to run on FB.

I don't know if it's wise to run the same campaign/create a duplicate FB page/same Shopify domain -- all on my friend's FB account . I would hate to risk losing access to that as well.

For now, I will work on Store #2 on this new account.

Goal for Day 15
- Create FB Business Page + IG for Store #2. Create Ad Campaign for 1 Product and launch it by end of day or Day 16

09-21-2018 07:06 AM #22 init2017 (Member)

Day 15

Long days, long nights!

Got some good work done today.

FB Business Page + IG for Store #2 are done with a few posts. I went back to my Store and also ended up redoing some of the elements/pricing. Finalized copywriting for Product #1, and zeroed in on how I will be targeting for the first ad campaign.

In other news, Store #1's FB Ad account is still under "verification", so no change there.

One interesting case study I read today was the, $35,000 in Three Weeks With Shopify post. It gave me an excellent reference point for what a "winner" product might look like. In hindsight, the products I chose for Store #1 don't seem like such a good idea now (will post a Store critique after I can access my ad account to share).

I get the impression the product is the most critical factor in all of this -- maybe that's obvious! -- but I've noticed a few others point out that with the right marketing/social proof/strategy you can sell anything....time will tell

Goal for Day 16
- Launch Ad Campaign for Store #2. Research other products in the hobbies list I made, this time having the knowledge of what a "winner" can look like.

09-22-2018 06:48 AM #23 init2017 (Member)

Day 16

Here we go again...

I created my Ad campaign for Store #2 and Product #1. As I went to launch it, I got my Ad account disabled -- FB wants verification.

Fortunately, this is my friend's real account so I submitted the verification and am waiting for FB to enable the ad account again.

Looks like more waiting to launch my ads. My favorite part of the whole process is to see how the ads/product does, and so far I've only gotten 1 real test out (with 0 conversions). Currently, I have 2 Stores with ~3 products each that I could make campaigns for and I don't have much to show for it.

I'm not sure how it looks to anyone following along -- am I not using my time wisely? Once I have a verified FB Ad account will this be a lot easier?

For now, I'm waiting for FB to reenable my ad account, and in the meantime thinking of what Store #3 and products could be.

Goal for Day 17
- Research more ideas for Store #3. Consider alternate ways to get FB verified Ad accounts (not on STM). Wait for FB Ad account to verify and launch ads ASAP.

09-23-2018 09:40 AM #24 init2017 (Member)

Day 17

Quick update as nothing too noteworthy happened today.

Still waiting for verification on my FB Ads account, this is a legitimate account/verification. Did some research about a possible Store #3 idea, but at this point I think it's best for me to focus on the 2 stores I have, and actually run some ad campaigns for them first.

While I wait for FB verification, I will be focusing on drafting more campaigns for products on both Store #1 & #2.

This weekend has been a bit slow as I've gotten busy with other errands. Looking forward to Monday/Tuesday to kick into high gear again!

Goal for Day 18
- Draft Ad campaigns for 2 more products, while waiting for FB Ad account verification. Work/improve my copywriting.

09-24-2018 06:57 AM #25 init2017 (Member)

Day 18

Got a rough draft of campaigns for 2 more products -- granted my motivation has been a little low since FB hasn't verified my ad account yet. Also worked a bit on copywriting as planned (Cashvertising feels like the only book I'll ever need sometimes)!

Looking forward to a big week -- as long as FB gets my Ad account going I plan to make up for some of this lost time.

Goal for Day 19
- Check for FB Ad Account verification. Consider alternate ways to get FB Ad accounts. Continue research for other products/stores.

09-25-2018 06:21 AM #26 init2017 (Member)

Day 19

My (friend's) Facebook Ad account is still not verified, it's been 1 business day so far.

Another quick update overall, I haven't made much forward progress.

To summarize:

- I have 2 stores running
- A total of 4 Ad Campaigns for 4 products ready (2 for each store), with 2 more close to completion
- Each Store has a FB Page + IG

I've worked on an idea for another product/store and even have an ad campaign prepared for it as well, but am holding off (Shopify only has a 21 day trial) for FB.

Goal for Day 20
- More of the same...Check FB Ad Account verification. Continue working on products/campaigns.

09-25-2018 06:30 AM #27 maynzie (Moderator)

Give it a few days FB is just a massive pain like that, but its good to see you're focusing on still collecting/creating for your campaigns and future ideas, there is always stuff to do in the downtime of affiliate marketing.

Hope it gets re-instated for you asap so you can start collecting some data !

09-25-2018 08:17 AM #28 stickupkid (Senior Moderator)

Definitely ask more friends/family for their accounts so you can at least test some ads in the meanwhile...

09-26-2018 03:20 AM #29 init2017 (Member)

Thanks for the words of encouragement/advice @maynzie @stickupkid!

Day 20

Right near the end of today, I got some good news...Facebook approved my (friend's) Ad account!!

Finally, I'm planning to launch my first Ad Campaign for Store #2 tomorrow morning. I think I will launch 1 campaign a day (each running 4 days of testing) so as not to draw attention to myself.

I have some family health matters preventing me from doing much work tomorrow, but should start getting some data finally!

Goal for Day 21
- Launch Ad Campaign #1 for Store #2. Take care of family stuff. Prepare for remainder of this week's ad campaign launches!

Good Luck! Hope you can start collecting data for store #2 asap .

I believe I understand what you mean now, thanks for the tip! Yeah, I'll keep moving along, there's still quite a bit of time left for me to go on this project so I will steadily work as many angles as I can.

On another note, here's my latest update -- I compiled my weekend together as not too much happened of interest besides work, work, and more work

Day 35
It was Friday, and I mostly relaxed like I said I would. I did work on a day job that I have picked up to help keep me afloat. I got some unexpected expenses that are quickly homing into my bank account. This is probably the biggest reason for some of my delays in trying to get tasks done each day.

Day 36 - Day 37
I worked both days on my new store and product offering. I got some heavy inspiration on this store, and I am using it as a control. It's a product that I have personally seen advertised already and has been a "winner", but I am curious what kind of results I will get just off the kinds of ads/targeting I am currently using.

I'm starting to love testing now and can't wait to see how it plays out; if only it didn't cost money haha.

I've gotten the store online, products added and cleaned up, and should have the ads running on Day 39. I also took some time to add a few pages to Store #3 -- About Us, FAQ, and possibly Track Order. Curious to see the analytics on whether customers will actually visit those pages or not.

Goal for Day 38
- Ensure ads for Store #3 - Product #1 are approved and ready to go live for Day 39. Check, fulfill, and review orders/ads for Store #2 - Optimized Adsets - Product #3.

10-18-2018 09:52 PM #32 init2017 (Member)

Day 39

Nothing major to report. No orders so far on Store #3 Product #1, ad is running.

I've gotten down a basic strategy for how I want to split test my product page for this Store.

I'm planning to break it down like so:

Current Product Page
- 2-3 sentences of copy
- 4 bullet points
- 4-5 clean images

Split Test Copy Page
- 2-3 sentences of copy
- 4 bullet points
- 4-5 clean images
- Trust Badges
- Sourced Customer Reviews
- Countdown Timer
- Longer copy
- etc

This will be down the line once I get the results of Store #3's current FB ad campaign.

Goal for Day 40
- Monitor ads for Store #3. Fulfill any orders. Start putting together plug-ins etc for split testing page.

10-20-2018 06:52 AM #33 init2017 (Member)

Day 40

Things are moving along, I'm looking forward to sharing the results of this latest ad campaign with you all. I'm split testing ad types, and will then split test my landing page.

I did some research and found what appears to be a pretty good checkout page optimization.

It's called Shopify Checkout Hack 3.0 (link). Has anyone used it before?

Goal for Day 41
- Monitor Ads, Fulfill any orders. Work on getting Product Page split test ready for when this current campaign ends.

That Shopify Checkout Hack looks badass!

Kudos on doing all this testing - and in addition to holding down a J.O.B. too. It's not easy, but try to be proud of what you CAN do and not worry about what you don't have time to do. As long as there's progress, you'll eventually get where you want to.

Hi all, sorry I haven't updated in a while -- had some family/work obligations and I went from a few hours of spare time each day to barely having time to even eat last week.

I'm back on track this week, and looking forward to continuing my progress.

Day 42

I've gotten most of my product page optimizations done. So far it looks good, but I plan to polish it up some more before going live with another ad campaign.I also checked my analytics for other pages such as "Order Tracking" and "FAQ", but only a few % of visitors checked them out. I still believe they are important to have, and I may add a page about "Returns" to give buyers additional confidence.

Goal for Day 43
- Continue work on landing page optimizations. Aim to have ads running on revised landing page before end of week.

Learning from your follow-along for sure! Thank you!

What's your current checkout look like? I've found a Shopify app called "Cart Conversion Boost" which does a part of what that Checkout Hack covers - tested it and it REALLY does simplify the original Shopify checkout by quite a bit!

Will continue to follow-along! You're doing a lot of interesting testing - thanks so much for sharing.

Hi Vortex, my current checkout is the default Shopify checkout with no add-ons. I don't ask for customer login, or force any restrictions. They can pay via Shopify or PayPal -- most people seem to use PayPal in my experience.

Thanks for sharing that checkout app! I looked it over, definitely seems useful and I'll report back in the next couple of days once I have my optimization set up done.

Glad you are finding some value in the follow along ! I'm enjoying the testing a lot more than I thought, I'll keep it up!

Hey, interesting follow along. I like your mindset

Some tips if you don't mind:

- US, UK, CA are good countries, really profitable if you know what you are doing, have the right brand and budget behind. I don't recommend it as starting countries nowadays, especially because during Q4 CPMs will rise like crazy and you risk to burn your budget for little/no data.
- usually what sells good in US/UK/CA can be very profitable in other GEOs a few months later. Focus on GEOs where CPMs are not that crazy but still have a good understanding of English, credit/debit cards/Paypal diffusion and online retailing growth (pretty much everywhere, but you can still compare and go to the best ones for testing)
- train the pixel as much as you can. Which is not just about a tech stuff, but it translates also to psychology. The more people fires your events, the better you can target them and show relevant ads according to their previous behaviour. @iamAttila explains it really well. People on FB are not there to buy. They want to hang out. The good old times where you just send traffic to a simple funnels and you make x.xxx profit per day are long gone. Be creative and create a "paid" conversation with them.
- try to make your audience feel special
- play around... be creative (ie. you can use two pages. You send traffic to one page where you basically tell people that a certain product is best because of X,Y, and Z... this might be a blog post for example or an advertorial). Then you re-target those users through another page giving out a 24hrs coupon code for that product. How does their mind will work? Well, at first they will think the product that can change their lives cost $100 and maybe you still make a few sales at that price. Then, after 24/48 they see again that product discounted just for 24hrs at $50. They will buy like crazy. You can even make it more complex running more than two pages/websites/stores...

Hope these help! If you need further assistance with product sourcing/fulfillment/shipping/tracking numbers you can easily rely on us. We automate your backend so you can just focus on marketing! Our e-com managers can help you!

Thank you for your tips udroppy! I always appreciate the advice, I'm slowly gaining a better understanding of the "game".

To everyone -- sorry for another absence/interruption on this follow along. I got a bad cold, then food poisoning, and had to go to the hospital. It reminds me that while this is very important to me, health is not something I should take for granted. I took some time off and feel much better now, so let's get back to it.

Day 43

I've gotten my landing page optimizations completed. I got some inspiration from several stores that look to be successful.

I used several plug-ins, which I will summarize with the data once the ads successfully run and complete.

That's my next step now...

Goal for Day 44
- Get FB Ads up and running on optimized landing page. Monitor store for traffic, orders, and any possible errors.

Day 44

Took a little time for my ads to be approved, had to get some payment issues sorted.

So here we are!

Ads are scheduled to run tomorrow, and I figure I'll share my landing page changes below instead of waiting for the data:

Landing Page Changes Made
- Added Credit Card trust badge
- Added Shipping/Refund/Security trust badge
- Added 40+ reviews with photos of product using Loox Plug-in
- Added Sticky Cart App (creates a sticky "Add to Cart" when scrolling
- Added a Countdown timer w/ limited stock bar
- Added Exit Intent "Wheel of Fortune" for discounts
- Added Custom Cart Abandonment Email Flow with a 24 hour 10% discount offer on 2nd/3rd emails
- Added Shopify Checkout Hack Pirate 3.0 Script -- makes the checkout process look quite a bit better!
- Added small theme changes to optimize mobile view, and went over all additions to fit them into the theme/color scheme

The one thing I didn't change up was the copy. I had planned on writing a much longer copy, but after visiting several successful stores and watching/reading some of Nick Peroni's work -- I figured I would hold off on that for now and see what kind of difference I can get from just the above.

I did my best to avoid going wild with too many apps/timers, and avoid touting the "fake scarcity" angle (for the most part ).

Everything else is the same, including pictures (which are already pretty nice). So this should be a fun testing experiment!

Goal for Day 45
- Monitor store traffic, fulfill orders, and if there is time start looking at what other products I want to test next for this store.

Nice progress thanks!

I respect that! However - that stuff DOES work!

Haha, well I kept some of it in. I tried to keep it tasteful.

Day 45

Ads are running, and so far so good!

I've got some orders in, but waiting for some more data tomorrow to compare the data between the optimized landing page vs original.

Not much else to report, for now I'll let the ads continue running and keep working on my processes.

Goal for Day 46
- More of the same. Monitor store, make sure ads keep running, and fulfill orders if received
