What Effect Do The Holidays Have?

With a raft of holidays coming up what effect do you experienced guys normally see?

Ive only ever run SEO before and post Xmas day was always sweet to me in the weight loss niche as people prepare for their New Year resolutions, is it the same sort of thing with paid traffic....do certain verticals ramp up and others die off?

Yes definitely bro - there are many paid traffic guys who make a good chunk of their money by focusing on holiday/seasonal campaigns. Valentine's Day, Christmas, Father's Day Mothers Day everything I bet there are even a few case studies on here about such campaigns.

Personally as a media buyer I'm not a fan of holidays. Q4 is when all the agencies and brands scramble to use their marketing budgets so they throw up campaigns with ridiculous CPMs and buy out a lot of the good inventory.

Also, unless you're running a seasonal campaign you might see odd performance in conversions and CTR, people are just in a different mindset.

With that being said there are some verticals that do better like dating for example because people feel lonely during the holidays (hint hint).

No kidding - I remember seeing facebook data published showing that there's a huge breakup spike during christmas holidays.

I don't usually run any festive holiday related campaigns near December, and i can say that other non related holiday campaigns are always negatively affected near the end of December and for the first 10 days in Jan. ...be ready for Jan resolutions though

Yep I get killed around Christmas with my media buys, but then around mid Jan-Feb networks are begging for my low CPMs again.
