Cooking With Gas - Ecomm Follow-Along
STM - Ecommerce / Drop Shipping / Follow-Along / Complete Newby
Thanks to all the STM members that have given me advice and direction to help me make the decisions to follow the path of e-commerce / STM style.
List of resources that I will be using as a blueprint to kick-start the business in the right direction.
ECOMM / Dropshipping Blue Print (resources)
1) Caurmens complete ecomm cookbooks
2) STM follow-alongs ( a few favorites )
3) Free intro classes Istack training for FB ads
4) Facebook Blue Print (this looks kinda crap, any opinions on what to study and what to avoid)
5) Oberlo - Mini-Course on Aliexpress Drop Shipping
6) Momentum Marketing Tribe - Facebook Group with Mr Mohamed Ali Aguel
4th October
Basics
Suggested by the Chef himself, Caurmen.
Setting up your account: Set up a business and create multiple ad accounts immediately. You don't want to wait on either of those things, as having multiple ad accounts can be a lifesaver.
Create Facebook Business Manager
Note, You can only create 5 Ad Accounts inside your Facebook Business Manager Account. I tried to follow some older Youtube tutorials on creating 1000 ad accounts, for agencies.
Facebook now states that you can apply for more Ad Accounts once you start generating ad spends, then you must apply.
5th October
Step 1: Write Your Shopping List
BrainStorm Niche Ideas
I am currently studying Digital Marketing in College, so I just walked around and asked everyone their passions and problems. The course has a great mix of nationalities, so I was able to come up with some decent ideas, that I would generally not have come up with on my own.
I have narrowed the list down to the below few. Some niches where brand dominated, like MMA and others were a little thin in products like Yoga.
The List
Body Work / Biomechanics
Pros -
* People seeking bodywork and physio are generally in pain or very health conscious, this will help with creating and exposing pain points with ads and copy.
* Bodywork is quite a large wide niche and could encompass Yoga, Trigger Point Therapy, Massage, Pilates and even expand into core strengthening and fitness.
* expand into apparel and digital products if it gains traction.
* Most of the world is familiar with these evergreen products
Cons -
* Possibly hard to create a target audience on Facebook, unless I start to find influencers in the palates/yoga niche as my seed audience.
* Not exactly a massive pain point and problem niche
* Concerns of saturation (will have to do some spying)
10 General Product Ideas -
Yoga Mats, Yoga Bags, Acupressure Balls, Acupressure Mats, Back Stretch Machine, Heat Patches, Pressure Point Sandles, Pressure Point Gloves, Electric Massager, Cupping Machine
Hiking / Camping / Outdoors
Pros -
* This is a passion for a lot of people
* Research and find pain points that people have when camping, hiking and transiting on family camping holidays
* Large range of products, covering similar niches and passions
* Great content marketing topics and digital lead gen ( Digital Marketers / Survival Life Model)
* Most Items are relatively small and not extremely brand dominated
Cons -
* Possibly saturated
* Mainly men
* Must research niches to find pain points for marketing material. Such as shitting in the woods, Showering in the wild, Camping with the family, First Aid, Our door convenience, and comfort.
10 General Product Ideas -
Portable Cookware, Fabric Collapsible Bucket, Portable LED Light, Baseball Cap Brim Light, Survival Fire Starter, Hand Chain Saw, Portable shitter (tent), Portable Shower, Drinks Cooler, Sleeping Bags, Travel Bags, Camping Chairs, Camping Essentials
Baby / Nursing / Baby Education
Pros -
Advertise to maternal instincts of mothering, New parents
New parents are already in buying mode
Fears of baby rolling over and choking
Parents what to show off their newborn and have the latest stuff first
Find pain point and product that will make life easier
Cons -
Some parent might be hesitant buying from China for their newborn
Possible that certain products might not make it through customs
look for common complaints and common thread on mommy blogs
General Product Ideas -
Fabric Nappies and Washing Gear, Spill Proof Feeding Bowl, Nursery Padding, Baby Shower Hat, Toy Organiser, Bulk Face Towels, Educational Toys, Shopping Trolley Covers
Toilet Seat, with Steps, Novelty Urine Potty, for the wall, Portable Travel Urinal, Cute Corner Protectors, Door Stoppers, Draw Locks, Suction Device, to remove snot from its nose, Baby Sleeping Bags
Dogs / Pets
Pros -
People love these things more than their own children
Dogs and pets, in general, have plenty of problems, such as bad habits, like chewing, grooming, shedding, pissing on your stuff, shitting in your house
Dogs need exercise, this is a pain point that can be exposed and marketed to for simple products like dog leashes, throw toys and dog training devices
Lots of products that can be sold, from training, bling, grooming, exercise, and feeding
Cons -
Lots of these products can be sourced locally from your pet store
Most big box outlets have a large dog section
Ad / Copy will have to be directed to the benefits of taking care of your pets better, exposing the pain of guilt
General Product Items
Dog Poo Pick Up Bags / Holders, Grooming Sets, Portable Water Bowl, Chew Toys, Feeding Bowls, Dog Bling and Dress Ups
Grooming Glove, Pet Hair Trimmer (electric), 360 Degrees Dog Washer, Cute Dog Beds, Travel Dog Brush
Auto / Cars
Pros -
Passion and convenience products
Most people have cars, some people love them
Parents need to entertain their kids during travel
Owners need to take care of their pets during transit
Possibility of small gadgets, car care products, organization of inside the car and in the boot of the car
Cons -
Lots of products will be electrical
Lots of products will be accessible locally (this may not be a problem)
General Product Ideas
Car Bin, Back Seat Organizer, Back Seat Ipad Holder, Mobile Phone Holder, next to gears, Boot Organiser, AIr Con Outlet cleaning brush,
Spray heads, Polish Clothes, Small Tool Sets, First AId Kits, Rear vision Mirrors, Seat Covers, Pets Travel Covers, Organisation Boxes

Step 2: Squeezing Your Produce
Hey STMers
Below is one of my niche breakdowns, with some takeaway points that I quickly noticed about this topic once I didi only a little research.
For the demographic / persona details, I believe that this niche is unisex but male-dominated. Wide age range for 25 - 45. Mid class earnig bracket. Campers and hikers are quite passionate about this lifestyle and spend more and do research on products, while there is still brand loyalty in this niche you could target smaller more unique products or play on the price difference of white label items.
Please note that this may not be the Niche that I choose to launch first. I will post all the details of the final niche before moving forward, making for a better follow-along and to gather more input (data) for members before moving forward.
Cons -
* Possibly saturated
* Mainly men
* Must research niches to find pain points for marketing material. Such as shitting in the woods, Showering in the wild, Camping with the family, First Aid, Our door convenience, and comfort.
10 General Product Ideas -
Portable Cookware, Fabric Collapsible Bucket, Portable LED Light, Baseball Cap Brim Light, Survival Fire Starter, Hand Chain Saw, Portable shitter (tent), Portable Shower, Drinks Cooler, Sleeping Bags, Travel Bags, Camping Chairs, Camping Essentials
Note:
It maybe the case that covering all three niches under the one store may dilute the customer experience, and make it harder to upsell, downsell and implement content marketing strategies.
What I will possibly do is, create the store with a non specific branded domain name, not including the niche inside of the brand name. This will allow me to test each sub niche in batches of products that are congruent and complementary to each other. The products that stick can stay and once a product batch has been tested, then the next sub niche can be brought to market and tested in the same manner.
Additionally, audience targeting will be tailored to the specific sub niches, likes, groups and persona. This could be tested as I am sure lots of the demographics, interests and likes with overlap throughout the three niches, camping, hiking and survival.
In future cases I will just go deep on one specific niche and make a general list of complementary niches and categories that could be expanded into at a latter satge in the business.

Question ?
Can I use groups that are not located in my target Geo, to create a seed audience.
Example. Use camping and survival groups in USA to create a seed audience for Aus / NZ targeted campaigns?

Very good work so far!
The Hiking/Camping niche is a solid one, although I'd agree with you that it is in danger of being saturated. Still, a good place to start: just don't get too attached to the first store and remember to move on if after rigorous testing it's not working.
Great work on your research, particularly asking people on campus for their passions. This is the kind of work that will pay dividends later on.

Hey STMers
Thanks for the advice and motivation Caurmen.
Sorry for the delay in posts, Ive had a wee dose of analysis paralysis, and I went and purchased a new Facebook Ads course - Facebook Ad IQ Academy (got it for 70% discount) 299 USD. I'll add this to the tools and resources list above.
Step 3: Pick The Freshest Goods
Ok Guys and Gals, Ladies and Gets.
I have looked into 10 niches so fare and come down to 3 final candidates. Due to indecision, I am going to squeeze the remaining three niche on this follow along, then after getting some input on the niches and the process I have used to validate them choose one and just take action. So in no particular order

So,
Out of all ten niches I looked into BBQ, Body Work, Gardening, Fishing, Camping, Baby, Cycling, Dogs and Baking the above are the three Niches that I have narrowed down to.
I will now go ahead and dig deeper into each nich using the cookbook method, plus add a couple off exta spices and touch of the deep fyer to get some crispy finish on it.
1) Make a list of all product / categories selling on Ali Express - Record - Main Keyword - Price - Product Link
2) Find all products on Amazon - Record price for comparison
3) Check all main keywords in KWFinder (any keyword SEO tool) - Record search volume, CPC
4) Gather top website results from keyword research - Enter into google doc
5) Document top website blog post results for future content marketing topics
6) Visit each website's Facebook Page - Record engagement metrics - Shares -Like
-Comments -Products -Ads (record ads for recreations) Get an idea of what a good FB page looks likes and works for UX (on social)
7) Enter competition domain into SimilarWeb - Record traffic - GEO's - Similar Website
8) Repeat Process for new website found in Similar Web results Note to self, don't get caught up doing this for to long, research and be another for of procrastination.
Attachment 17223
Guys how do I make image attachements bigger, I would love to include more images and screen shot into this follow along..
Once again, any input on this process would be greatly appriciated and hacks, work arounds and tools would be warmly welcomed.
Heres to moving forward and getting green... ecomm style...

Images: I'd recommend uploading them externally (Imgur or similar) and then linking them here. We're working on a better image tool for the forums but currently that's the best way.
As far as your niches: all of them look very good.
I'd recommend narrowing the hiking/camping website down to one or the other, but that's just a gut instinct. You can always pivot later.
Have a look into your product and marketing options, then based on that pick one and get cracking on the store!
Looking over your checklist above, I'd probably suggest that you don't need to go too deep on the SEO research at this point. You're likely to use FB ads to generate initial traffic anyway, and I absolutely guarantee that none of the niches above will be short of ways to build SEO/content marketing traffic if and when you decide to do that. Keep focused on getting to the product testing stage.
Well done so far, and looking forward to your next updates!

Whats Up STM Nation,
The time is coming close to picking a niche and opening a store.
But, at this point I just want to ask a few quick questions in regards to picking products from Ali Express and what makes a product worth of testing?
- Products that offer ePacket delivery. Choose the country you're thinking of targeting, and tell the Oberlo search to display shipping to that country. It'll show the cheapest shipping option, which is usually ePacket.
A have noticed that a large majority of the product that I had added to my list where free and some paid shipping via China Air, some products stated Epacket but not many. Most of the shipping time stated 22-40 days to Australia, even epacket fulfillment.
*Is this acceptable for a product?
*and if not what should my firm requirements be?
*and how are yall tweaking the filters to only show requested fields when scouring the masses of product in side Ali - Express?
I feel like I am missing a piece of the puzzle when it comes to scouring Ali-Express for suitable product to test, when it comes to shipping requirements and price points...
I have also noticed a whole bunch of products being sold on Ali-express for the same and some times for more that they are being sold on Amazon US for. Do you suggest staying away from product that are being sold for a similar price that what you can sell your product for via
Shopify at a min 100% mark up? or should all product be tested?
My last question is allocating ad spend budgets for FB? What rule of thumb should I use? and how do I incorporate this strategy into the product selection and pricing stages of getting started.
Sorry peps, that ended up being alot more questions than I expected.
I look forward to your replies and direction.
Here to moving forward and getting green....
Thanks Kindly

Whats up STMer's
Ive been a bit quite on this thread lately, I kinda got stuck over researching niches, then got my head stuck down the rabbit whole of Facebook ads, which in hindsight was a bad ideas, as every thing i learnt I didn't implement (yet)..
Anyways onwards and upwards...
I have created my first Shopify store
* Installed all suggested apps from the cook book
* Purchased a logo from Fiverr
* Imported 15 products from Ali X via Oberlo
* Price product. allocating around 100% mark up.
* All products are epacket and have shipping price included in the retail / sale price
* I have included a comparison price on 50% of the products
.. I post it in the roast section this evening as this follow along has lost its traction due to my inactivity, hopefully I can stir up some interest when I start to bombard this thread with ad copy and updates.
** In the end I chose fishing as the first Niche to test
** I have research two parallel niches that I can test in the same shop if this first niche / products dont get enough traction / sales.
** The nest in line Niches and products are Hikking and Camping
So right now I have created the FB Business Manager Account, created 5 Ad accounts. Plus created a Business pages for the Shopify store and seasoned it with a decent logo from fiverr and a few famous fishing quotes layered over some free stock images, grabbed from Unsplash and Ghetto edited on Canva.
On top of that a couple of youtube video reposts of 10 ten fishing spots, ect.. I have done this to create a bit of authority and a bit of an impression that the page / business is owned and run by Fishing enthusiasts.
Next steps..
Get my Store roasted by STM and Reddit
Get Back to following the cookbook...
Take suggestions from members.....
Start on chapter 3 of the STM Ecomm Cookbook ...
Choose the first 5 products to test
Create audiences
Edit Images (or pay some one on fiverr)
Create Ads
Run First Campaigns
??????? When should I order a product to make video and images???
Should I wait until I get traction on a PPE campaign? make XX sales or just buy as much as possibly and test with better quality ads from the start??
Thanks in advance and I look forward to getting roasted and pushing my next posts to this follow along ..
