Recommend an adserver?
Hey guys, can anyone recommend an adserver?
I want to test the waters in display advertising, starting with some direct buys on specific blogs, then branching out into some more expensive buys.
Where is the best place to host my ads?
I'm assuming most people here would be using hosted adservers?
Thanks!

You've got some tips in the other thread of yours : https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...ites-in-Voluum
And it might come as surprise to you, but most people here are buying traffic from traffic networks, so they usually rely on their solutions and don't use their own/custom ad servers.

I'd recommnd Adglare. Has conversion tracking, capping / banner / conversion, lots of goodies, cheaper than Voluum with more volume included in that $200

Thanks guys,
So where do most affiliates host their banners? on the traffic networks?
If i were to rent my own adserver, i wouldn't need to include Voluum in the mix as well?
I'm going to be running traffic at my own offers - email capture, then supplement upsell.
I want to use display/banners as part of my strategy, and plan on starting with some direct buys from blogs i've identified in my research, instead of committing to a massive buy via a network (i'll get there eventually).
My background is in SEO, so this is all new to me - i appreciate the advice.

just search adglare, signup for a trial and test it out. I am not affiliated with them in any way but do strongly recommend it since it's fast, cheap and the team is supper responsive and even adjusted the project a bit based on some of the ideas we bounced with them.

Another option, which is open source is Revie Ad server: https://www.revive-adserver.com/

Just a tip, to make sure you considered it : if you buy from a blog/site, they will want to sell you the full rotation, so all GEOs, devices ... make sure you have a plan on how to monetize all of that traffic. When buying from a network, you can pick exactly what kind of traffic you want to buy. That's why the prices from a network are higher - but you pick just what you can convert.

Thanks matuloo, i had not considered that.
Looking at the Adglare features, it says you can specify targeting - geos, etc - does that mean that if i use my own adserver and purchase placements direct with a blogger, i can focus in on my target market further?

that means that you can serve different ads for the incoming traffic.
you will still buy the bulk part

Revive was pretty good last time I used it - however, as danielt says, it does require some system administration skills to operate.

Thought so, that's why I pointed it out.
And danielt is right, you can serve different ads to different GEOs, but you will still have to buy all the traffic. In some cases, the owners agree to sell just specific GEOs ... the standard way of handling this would still be through an AD server, but this time it would be managed by the site owner, and he would setup your ads to show just to the GEOs you want. Another option of handling buys like this, is to rotate your banners in GEOs you can monetize and put the code of an adnetwork in for other GEOs.
