Big Dreams, Making a Career out of AM

Introduction

So, Hi guys my name is Kieran and I'm from the UK! I'm only 18 but I'm working a full time job to try and fund my dream of becoming a full time Affiliate.
I currently earn around £300/pw | $400, so I've built up a small amount and have decided to dive straight in, because it's taking action thats the biggest part of learning right?

My goals for AM are to be able to live a lifestyle that means I can travel and work while im away but also so I should never have to worry about money, Financial Security. Short-Term Goals for me are to make my first profitable campaign and by the end of the year have made $xx profit on atleast 3 days!

Excellent so lets see what I've done so far.

Achieved so far

Day 1 of Action
Ok so after reading through the newbies guide I decided to try Direct linking some offers with Pop Traffic, I applied for all of the Games and Video offers for my chosen geo (India) and after approval I deposited $100 on PopAds (Already had an account here) and began testing the offers as described in the walk-through. I didn't expect many results because I've read you need to test many many offers with Direct Linking to find one that will convert in the 5x Payout zone and I only had access to 5/6. However I got one of my offers to convert before the cut off and decided that this offer could work.

I cut the other offers and focused on this one, I increased my bid on the traffic source which im unsure if it was a good idea, and conversion began to come in, I made 7 conversions in total during the next 12 hours however I was still in the -80% region. I struggled to cut zone ids because a lot of my traffic is coming from single hits on different websites. Before I could optimize the offer further it was taken away on Mobidea.

I was struggling to find offers so I tried to sign up for more networks but I kept seeing the need for a company and this is where I decided to set one up.
Question: What are your Top 5 Networks for T3/4 Mobile CPA that are beginner friendly?

Day 2 of Action

I wanted to try my hand at the AV scene and I again chose the Indian Geo and I got 3 offers from Mobidea and 3 from Peerfly. I ripped a lander from AdPlexity that had been used in the geo and spent HOURS figuring out how to get the callouts to work properly, damn it was hard work but those lessons should serve me well from now on haha. I then created a campaign testing the 1 lander and 3 offers from Mobidea, and then created a campaign on PopAds to target the traffic. One note that I have here is that It takes so so long for me to have campaigns approved on PopAds and for Offers to be approved on Mobidea. PopAds can take 16hours to approve me campaign, and then during testing I reach my 5x pay out quickly and want to try again but have to wait another 12+hours, frustrating!

I spent just a little over my 5x payout and got a conversion on one of the offers and decided to try and use this offer on its own - However I think I increased my bid too much and traffic started rolling in, I got another conversion but the Cost began to heavily out weigh the return so I cut the offer.

Day 3 of Action
Not yet finished, current thoughts and to-do

I'd like to try and find a nice SweepStake landing page and edit it, brainstorm some angles and then start testing some offers with my final LP, I have applied for all of the SweepStake offers on mobidea for the PH and TW geos, what are your thoughts on this?

My Questions for you

  1. When Testing Pop campaigns like this, should I try and spread out my 5x Payout cut-off through out the entire day or try and burn through it fast so I can test lots of offers.
  2. Should I setup a new TS campaign and Voluum campaign for testing different bidding prices on an offer even with the 16h+ approval time.
  3. Once I have found a campaign that converts and I have begun to cut zoneids what should be my next steps? In regards to offers using both a landing page and offers that are direct linked.

Thanks for taking the time to read this guys, If you have any advice or even questions just let me know! I know there aren't any real number references or raw data in this part so it might be more difficult to help, but im working from memory on this part. Will try and make sure to get proper numbers into my next update!

Cheers Guys!

Hey hey Kieran, I was expecting to see a follow along from you pretty soon ... glad you didn't disappoint

So, let me give you a few tips right now :

1. Please consider testing a few smartlinks before working with direct offers, we have another follow along running where the OP did exactly that and the results show some promise. I would recommend these networks to start with : Mobidea (you have that already), kimia, bitterstrawberry, mobusi, brokerbabe/glize and there is also firstmobilecash (just adult I believe). All of these are solid companies to work with. Since you are directlinking, it's a good idea to use a smartlink, throw some traffic at it and if all works fine, the performing offers will start to stand out soon, then you can switch to promote them directly, if possible.

2. your question #1: It's a good idea to spread the spend across as long time during the day as possible, it works the best with higher budget though. But even with a smaller budget, it's better to go for more even distribution over spending all in a few minutes. Start with low bids to get more time.

3. Your question #2: You need to setup a campaign for every MAJOR targeting change or setting : bid is definitely one of those. Do not test a ton of levels though, try to start low, then go up if you start to get some traction. Sometimes it's better to work with a low bid, check this follow along for example of how long bids can work better : https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...ity-Apps/page2

4. Your question #3: With directlinked offers, your options are more limited, you just analyze data and look for targets to pause - placements, OS, device types, carriers ... With LP campaigns, there is one more option to optimize and improve and that's the LP. Your first goal is to find either an offer/smartlink that works, or an LP that is giving you good results - once you have it, there is one less thing to worry about and you can focus on the other parts of the funnel.

Keep the questions coming

Big Dreams, Making a Career out of AM

Day 3 of Action

OK so this day came a little bit late because apparently business' still take the weekends off on the Internet? Who knew!

I decided to go with trying some Direct Link campaigns for Games, seeing as though I have read that they can do OK and had converted games previously. I chose Egypt as my GEO because they had many Game offers with low enough payouts but also had the traffic levels that should work.

I took 11 offers and found the average payout of each offer then put them through a campaign with a 5x payout budget. Only two of the offers converted, however 1 of them was a $0.1 payout and the other was $0.6 so I chose the higher paid one to focus on.

After I had chosen the offer I created a campaign for it being direct linked and targeted the same audience. Over 5,666 visits it converted 5 times, spending close to $24.
During this I was cutting placements which were 2x the payout with no conversion. However I had 1 site that had converted once and was my most visited zone, but was still spending alot of money so I was torn to cut it.

I figured the offer was converting so I also made 2 other campaigns.
Campaign 1 had a landing page, very simple image [I still don't quite understand how to make good mobile landers, have read some threads on it.] and a CTA. The lander also had a back button block script which increased my CTR immensely (103.49%) but I feel like this made the results unreliable to judge as I only got 1 conversion from this campaign after a $13 spend.

I also had a low bid campaign which had a CPM of $2.51 compared to the $3.12 I was using in the other campaigns. This was direct linked and made 3 conversions over a $13 spend.

I'm still trying to figure out the Key Lessons that I can take away from every $ I spend, however I'd like your input on what I have done wrong and things I can do to improve. Personally I can definitley feel like I have no set process for doing this, I seem to pick at random and do things by guessing, I haven't used any of the Statistical Significane tools which I have seen posted about and I know I should begin to try and learn and build up my process to do things properly. I think maybe I should try and test out more campaigns that force me to use landing pages, so I can learn more about building a solid funnel first? Please try and give me some clarity!

As for other things, my LLC has been finalized and set up however I still need to Register for VAT before I can sign up for some networks? Strange this whole tax and legal lark However I was accepted into Wewe Media Network and will be taking a look at some of their offers soon!

Hope you guys are all doing great, looking forward to your responses

Thanks for this Matuloo, I will take a look into some of those networks however I will be trying to squeeze out my first payment from Mobidea first If I can Regarding your answer in Question 3 I can see that direct linking is limited, I definitley feel out of control when I am launching those campigns, a little bit like playing the lotterly as to whether or not an offer will convert - even then to make it profitable? Seems like a hard task indeed? Is this just with Pop Traffic though? I can see how a landing page can be used to pre-sell the offer and make more people convert, but unless the lander is in someway misleading how could you ever push an offer that was never going to succeed via direct linking to work with a landing page? I will definitley use the Mobidea smart link very shortly and update you when I have some more news! Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Hello again ...

1. You need to register for VAT, otherwise you'll be losing 20% (or similar) when buying from EU located networks.

Regarding your answer in Question 3 I can see that direct linking is limited, I definitley feel out of control when I am launching those campigns, a little bit like playing the lotterly as to whether or not an offer will convert - even then to make it profitable? Seems like a hard task indeed? Is this just with Pop Traffic though?
Well, you're testing 11 offers anyways, right? And the tracker is rotating them too, like a smartlink would. The difference - you have no data on the offers you picked, while the smartlink picks those that work the best with the traffic you send, based on past data collected by the network. You can obvioulsy beat a smartlink, since it has limitations too ... but it's a good option to start with, especially when you are new and don't know what can actually convert.

I can see how a landing page can be used to pre-sell the offer and make more people convert, but unless the lander is in someway misleading how could you ever push an offer that was never going to succeed via direct linking to work with a landing page?
situation #1 : You walk in a car dealership, nobody is there, just the cars
situation #2 : You walk in a car dealership, a sales guy approaches you and gives you all the info about the car and tells you a ton of positives about it

In which situation are you more likely to buy the car? LP is the sales guy in the online space ... see where I'm going?

I used the smart link over at Mobidea and got around 15 conversions however I have no way to see which offers were the ones that converted, I contacted support and was told that it was difficult to do because the offer is always rotating, not sure how true that is but I am waiting for a reply and hopefully a solution to that. Unless anyone else also has had this?

And yeah I see what you mean, nice analogy, thanks for the reply

Ill let you guys know what I get done today

Your AM should be able to tell you what offers converted, but let's stay realistic, they can't do this analysis for everyone after a bunch of conversions. On top of that, you can use just the smartlink and try to optimize that campaign, I've made a lot of money that way. If the results showed some promise, you might want to give it a proper try.

I might give this a go, I did get some traction with it. And I also did contact my AM but like you said I felt it silly to have to need an AM to tell me what offers might have converted every time it happened Thanks for the feedback though!

Mobidea has very helpful AMs actually, so they will gladly help you... just keep in mind their working hours are limited and they work with a lot of affiliates, so expect them to give priority to requests from higher volume affiliates or when you aks for an analysis of a decent sized pool of conversions. If everyone asked for this after 15 conversions, they wouldn't have time to deal with anything else
