Question Regarding Paybump Etiquette (10)

Question Regarding Paybump Etiquette

Hey guys,

I've gone from doing $5/day in revenue to pushing over $1,000/day in leads in about a week. It's going really fast for me, and I'd like to make sure I don't ask for anything outrageous when exploring paybumps.

What are the ballpark figures for someone doing volume large enough to warrant a paybump? What sort of time does it take for an advertiser to assess the quality of your traffic for their backend?

If you're promoting a $1.50/lead shortform or something, what are the real bounds on bumps?

Any advice for entering into these conversations? I have no worries about negotiating and asking for more, but I'd love to know what a reasonable request is.

Thanks a ton guys,
ATG

For me, it's depended on the relationship I had with my AM. My best AMs have always come to me with a rise in payout, before I asked, when my traffic has been good. I've asked for paybumps, and got them, after running minimal traffic.

However, be careful not to rock the boat, because sometimes when I've had a paybump, my CR has dropped, making the campaign not as profitable. Could be just coincidence of course.

If I have a feeling I'm going to blow up an offer, I normally discuss with my AM the bumps before I drive a single lead. For example we will agree on certain bumps after 100 leads, 200 leads, 500 leads and 1000 leads.

If they are transparent about their margins you can work with them so both parties are happy. I'm guessing they are getting paid around $2-$2.50. They should defnitely be bumping you up to around 1.80 - $2

Hey ATG, first of all, congrats on your newfound success! That's the beauty of affiliate marketing. Somebody making $100 a month can make $10,000 a month instantly by striking a nice campaign.

In terms of paybump etiquette, lets get straight to the point.

Affiliate networks rely on affiliates like yourself to make money. Typically, we street lower payouts and keep higher margins from low volume publishers, while tightening margins for higher volume publishers. This is not always the case for every offer, because affiliate networks are always competing with other affiliate networks payouts on the same offers as well. However, when you're sending $1k a day to an offer, don't be shy to demand quite an increase.

If you're getting $1.50, ask for $1.75. If the network can't do $1.75, I'm certain they'll come back to you with $1.60 - $1.65.

Just simple negotiation 101 -- always ask for more than you expect.

Having said all of this, pay bumps are also quality based. If quality is very good, you should expect pay bumps because the advertisers are typically willing to pay more for higher quality traffic. If you ask for a pay bump, and the quality isn't there, chances are you wont get one because it's possible you're pulled from the campaign at any point as well.

At the end of the day, keep in mind networks rely on you, so don't be bashful when asking for pay bumps .

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the awesome responses so far! I'm glad that everyone thinks I should be asking for more.

Here's a follow-up question: How long should it take to assess quality? My network has me on a cap of about 1,250 leads per day until the advertiser gives me the green light on quality to go uncapped. How long should this process take and should I be getting a paybump before that happens?

Thanks again!

It really depends on the type of offer and how the advertiser monetizes the leads. What kind of offer is it? Some offers can take 2-3 days, some offers can take 2-3 weeks.

Like I said before, on the network end, if quality is uncertain, it doesn't always make sense to bump you before getting a quality check or while waiting for one.

Not to contradict myself, but if it's an offer that the network has a very long standing relationship with, the network can probably bump you while waiting on quality checks, but the quality check will determine if they want more of your traffic, want you to keep your traffic the way it is, or they want to slow you down/cut you off. In the meantime, the network should give you a small bump for the volume, and a larger bump when quality is confirmed to be good and they get paid more for your traffic (if they get paid more for your traffic).

Relationship management with your AM plays a big role in this I would say. Like Mr. Green said as well, if I know I can drive some volume to a certain offer I will ask for a bump before starting to run any traffic to it. In your case, $1k a day for a $1.5 lead offer is more than enough to start asking for a bump. I'd say most networks have a margin of 20-25% on the street payout, so use that to your advantage.

OP: definitely ask for a bump, I think you can get $1.7 easy. Good luck!

Interestingly i also run an offer with $1.5 street, but can't get my AM to answer my emails for a week! Sent 2 already. No response on Skype either.
Can anyone recommend good AM at Offermobi?

I've been running some solid gaming traffic as of late and my AM (who's awesome) is pushing to get new offers for me, and when he thinks I should tackle something or a new game offer pops up, he literally immediately approves the offers for me to run and bumps the payouts straight away. Guess it depends on that AM relationship eh? Send them solid traffic and they will put in the effort to help you make money.
