Want to increase your Pay-Per-Install conv rate? (6)

Want to increase your Pay-Per-Install conv rate?

Howdy,

I'm not sure if you know this but all those DLS offers where you get cash for people installing software are not converting as well as they should because of 1 MAIN REASON:
They are being flagged as viruses and being quarantined (and deleted). Never installed and no cash to you.

eg: There is a 7Zip offer on peerfly that has a 53.7% failure rate. This means that 22 out of 41 virus checkers flag this download as a virus.

See here:
VirusTotal Report (before)

I've developed a piece of code that can reduce this failure rate to 9.3%. This means only 3 out of the 41 virus checkers on VirusTotal will flag this DLS as a positive and only one other (named VIPRE that isn't used much anyhow) flags it as a virus.

See here:
VirusTotal Report (after)

Everything will still work as before, there is nothing removed from the original software so it's sure to get more installs.

I'm only looking to JV with somebody that is doing high volume in PPI, PM me with your trades/offers and we can take it from there.

Thanks,
SeanK.

Yeah, I hear you on that. I've also found that sites like Mindspark MMORPG and similar stuff get flagged by Malware/Virus checkers as bad sites to visit.

You'd think the merchants would keep up with this and change servers on a regular basis. But that's too much like hard work for them, so no.

As an aside: For the likes of Mindspark, etc, if I were displaying their content I would stream it from my own site inside a flash file and promote my own url instead.

For example, I have a flash player that I had created, it streams youtube videos and shows my own ads before the video is played or at the bottom of the video as needed. It's cool because I can publish this flash file on websites or inside PDF documents, eg: ads in PDFS :-)

FYI - It really depends on where you're promoting downloads. Major search engines all scan destination URLs and frequently reject sites due to virus flags, whether real or false. So if you're getting traffic from google, for example, your download has already passed their screening, so you're going to have a much higher success rate without doing anything additional on your part.

Mindspark in particular has close relationships with all of the major anti-virus/flagging companies. If you do ever see an anti-virus/spyware flag on a Mindspark download, let them (or me) know and they will resolve it immediately.

@ppchound: It's not too much work for these companies when a false flag can wipe out a significant % of your installs. So the legit ones stay on top of this like hawks.

This is the problem Brian, when I upload PPI executables to VirusTotal I always see a crapload of positives.

Take your PopularScreenSavers.exe for example, I just did a scan on VirusTotal and got these results:
AhnLab-V3 2011.10.29.00 2011.10.29 Malware/Win32.Generic
AntiVir 7.11.16.201 2011.10.28 Adware/ZBL.A.6
Avast 6.0.1289.0 2011.10.29 Win32:FunWeb [PUP]
AVG 10.0.0.1190 2011.10.29 AdInstaller.FunWeb
Comodo 10594 2011.10.29 ApplicUnwnt.Win32.AdWare.FunWeb.DA
Kaspersky 9.0.0.837 2011.10.29 not-a-virus:WebToolbar.Win32.MyWebSearch.gen
NOD32 6585 2011.10.29 a variant of Win32/AdInstaller
nProtect 2011-10-29.01 2011.10.29 Trojan-Clicker/W32.Agent.149088
SUPERAntiSpyware 4.40.0.1006 2011.10.29 Adware.MyWebSearch/FunWebProducts
Symantec 20111.2.0.82 2011.10.29 Suspicious.Cloud.5
VIPRE 10909 2011.10.29 MyWebSearch.J (v) (not malicious)

Here is the report: VirusTotal

and it is exactly this kind of thing that inspired me to create a solution to this problem because I understand how difficult your job is to keep the Virus scanners at bay even when you have a legitimate company offering a legitimate toolbar/product.

I stand corrected Brian. Glad to see that Mindspark is taking an active positive role.
