hi all,
ok my birthday is approaching and I said to myself "enough is enough". I'll do whatever it takes to put myself in a much better financial position by my next birthday.(current goal is $1000/day in a year)
I'm almost there and here's the only problem I'm having now:what URL should I use to replace the ones in tijn's babiesrus lander?
I had a look at the source code and can understand what it tries to do. I've identified URLs that I need to replace with my own. But this is exactly where I am stuck...here's the code snippet:
I replaced my affiliate link with both http://t01.gr0w.co/base2.php
hmm. please check the 40 day guide as its very clear about which URL to put where.
In summary:
1) CPVLab Campaign URL (base.php?c=.....) goes in your PPV network
2) CPVLab Click Through URL for lp campaign (base2.php) goes onto your lander (ie replaces http://t01.gr0w.co/base2.php)
3) Your affiliate links go into the CPVLab offer section
but as i said - the 40 day guide PPV section has numerous screenshots showing these exact steps.
I believe the base2.php file is part of cpvlab. Yes replace the link with your own tracking link. Are you using prosper202, cpvlab. You can paste in your peerfly link, but you need to blank the referrer otherwise the networks will know exactly where your traffic is coming from. From what I've read is some networks may steal your traffic and what not.
Whatever you do though. Yes replace that link with your own affiliate urls, rotators, tracking links etc..
Thanks tijn but I've read the 40 day guide several times and made sure I followed it exactly...
I haven't submitted it to LI, could that be the cause of the problem I'm having now?
@jasontm: thanks but it seems tijn's reply was to replace it with my http://xyz.com/base2.php, not my aff link http://peerfly.com/click.php?img=0&i...pf=5678&subid=
that's where I'm stuck...
@tijn: I'll send you a PM thanks
ok buddy....the redirect didnt work problem even i had today itself and i got it clarified from Robert. Here was his response
"
No problem...you have to go through your campaign url first. This is intentional as a security feature in CPV Lab. Competitors/Other Affiliates won't be able to go past your landing page to see what you're promoting without first going through the campaign url.
The campaign url places the cookie that allows them to pass through. Again, this is intentional.
If you wish, you can disable this feature by adding the extra Direct Traffic code on your landing pages.
"
SO i understood that Link is working fine and a visitor has to come through proper channel to make sure our link doesnt falls in bad hands.
Next question i had was.......if i want it at LP then what should i do.......here is what Robert answered
"
Check this out...
Tracking Direct Traffic with CPV Lab
http://cpvlab.com/forusers/info/Trac...th_CPV_Lab.pdf
"
In short your link is fine ad go as per guide. Redirect is not working to save your data. You can make it public and make it work by copying small code in LP
I hope this would help.....
@chilliflakes: thanks for that buddy! so it seems as long as I add the following to the lander(before /body) I should be fine:
<img src="http://xyz.com/adck.php?c=2&l=xxx&r=<?php echo(base64_encode($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'])) ?>" />
JavaScript version: <script type="text/javascript">checkdirect(2,xxx)</script>
but here's the new question: if you look at tijn's original code as I posted in my 1st post above, you can see that he didn't include that code snippet to track direct link traffic. So how come his code still works fine?
tijn, can you see now that it's not I didn't read your guide carefully and asked stupid questions, but there is something needs to be clarified?
thanks again!
since your traffic would come from the link taken from CPV lab you wont need direct link traffic. Your CPV lab link is the main link and people would come from there.
You make your site robots restrcited and you ideally dont want any direct linking except from CPV lab.
How to do that is covered in 40 day guide.
But if you need direct linking, like i needed for MSN adcentre, you can use the direct code in LP. Even that is n ot required in MSN adcentre had i been able to use CPV url in it.
In short- there is no direct link traffic unless you want to create it. if u do then use the code.
And this confusion is happening because u testing the code by clicking direct on it......or through cpv url that is test i believe. ..........i was doing the same thing but now the concepts clear to me.
hope this helps.
@togun, congratz on starting. let's do this 30 day challenge (or however long it takes) side by side and keep each other accountable
ok, it seems this is not as easy to understand as I had hoped. Let me do a video on setting up a basic campaign in CPVLab and post it. Give me 24 hrs.
here is a screenshot i posted before - make sure you use that test link when accessing your landers.

hey tijn,
1) I didn't add the direct link code snippet to my landing page
2) I did try that "test link" earlier and just tried it again. The lander loaded ok but when I clicked "continue", I was shown a blank page and the url in the address bar is xyz.com/base2.php
thanks in advance for your short video!
@harrypotter: great, lets do that.
have you got cookies enabled in your browser?
the only 3 reasons base2.php does not redirect to your offer is:
1) the cpvlab cookie has not been set therefore it does not know which campaign the click relates to
2) there is an error in the offer URL, but I would think this would give you an vible error on the page with the offer link in your URL
3) you have set the % split between offers and DL/LP incorrectly
can you post again your screeshot of your cpvlab campaign setup, blanking out your domain names?
cheers
tijnn
hey tijn,
here're my replies...
I never disabled cookies in my browser...
I've set the % split between offers and DL/LP to 67% just like what the guide says...the only difference is that I've only put one lander there, not two(as shown in your guide)
attached is the screenshot...sorry I don't know how to make the image smaller...

An update:
ok after extensive testing it seems there's something else going on that needs to be looked into further. I've submitted a ticket to Robert from cpvlab and will see if he could help.
Meanwhile since I've already picked offers I wanna test, I'll create lists of target URLs and KWs while awaiting response from Robert.
I'll make a short-term and long-term plan as well and post them here. Any comments/advice would be appreciated.
yeah just to clarify, after running through a couple of tests with topgun over skype yesterday its clear that offers load fine for me, but for some reason the base2.php redirect would never work for topgun - even when checking different browsers, machines, ips and networks.
very weird and its not something I have come across before.
looking forward to the response from robert topgun
yeah many thanks for your help tijn. I'll update this thread once I hear from Robert again. He actually has replied and he got the same result as yours...I still have the same problem...really weird.
Here are my long-term, medium-term and short-term goals and plans of attack. Any comments from more experienced members would be appreciated.
Long-term Goal:
---Live the "4-hour work week" life (8-hour work week would be good too)
---plan of attack: two options here
---1)by making money in AM and investing profits in properties & become a landlord
---2)by running an Internet business that generates income; it probably won't be 100% hands free but that's ok; don't know which business model yet...
Medium-term Goal:
---$1000 net profit per day on average
---Time frame: within a year(Nov/02/2012 the latest)
---plan of attack: ppv (with email marketing as I'm fully aware of the power of lists; will take a look at co-reg as well when I've got spare time)
Short-term Goal(for this 30-day follow along):
---1) know how cpvlab works really well
---2) know how all the pieces are put together really well
---3) get familiar with landers by testing different types of them (available here on the forum)
---4) identify one and only one niche that I'm passionate about and has got a lot of good offers (have a few niches in mind now but haven't decided the final candidate)
---plan of attack: launch zip/email submits and short-form lead-gen type of offers; split test direct linking and landers; I know tijn only mentioned email/zip submits in his guide but I guess I'll try some short-form lead-gen offers as well cos submits get scrubbed a lot and they are not stable...I guess my approach should be ok?
Did I miss anything important here? Am I on the right track? If not, please kindly let me know.
Thanks in advance!
Oct 31 update:
for some reason, everything's ok now. Really have no idea what happened...Robert is looking into this and let's see if he can find out what the cause was.
Will getting my hands dirty with setting up campaigns in a few minutes and here I am, the 30-day journey!
Nov 01 update:
What I've done in the last 24 hours:
---submitted a campaign to LI & got disapproved saying I need a disclaimer; I did that and got disapproved again, saying the font size of my disclaimer should be 12 pixels; (why the hell can't they simply tell me "you need a disclaimer and the font size should be 12 pixels minimum"!?)
---submitted two campaigns to LI after the disapproval and will see if they are ok this time
---signed up with an email marketing service provider so that I start collecting opt-ins
Questions I've got:
---how does traffic splitting work? I followed tijn's guide and set it up in cpvlab so that 67% of the traffic goes to my two landing pages and 33% goes directly to the offer. But the question is: do I have to do anything in my LI account at all to enable traffic splitting?

---(this is somewhat related to the above question) I've got two landing pages for one campaign. I've tried a few times in cpvlab and the "campaign URL" ALWAYS refers to one of the landing pages. I copied that campaign URL into LI as the landing page URL. So what about the other landing page?

Seems I'll have heaps of questions along the way...but I'm excited to see what's going to happen next...

Nov 02 update:
performance of the 2 campaigns I launched yesterday:
---neither converted which is ok
---CTR for both campaigns were good: 90clicks/248views=36.3%(campaign 2) and 37clicks/69views=53.6%(campaign1) respectively
Questions:
---I set a daily budget of $5 to both campaigns and campaign1 only cost me a little more than $1 although daily budget for campaign2 has been reached. I guess I should find more targets for campaign1. Am I on the right track?
---but what about campaign2? It has reached $5 budget and the CTR was good but no conversions. Should I dump it and move on to the next campaign, or try something new with it just because of the good CTR?
---my affiliate manager told me affiliates are "killing it" with offer2. I've got good CTR but no conversion so far. What could be the reason? Maybe my aff manager simply lied to me? or maybe he didn't lie to me but I came too late to the party and ppl have already seen that particular offer too many times?
---did I provide enough info about campaign2? Is what I've mentioned so far good enough to make a decision of killing it or keeping running it? I had a look at cpvlab stats and did see one particular keyword getting 90% of all the traffic without conversions. Also, I got 90 clicks in total and 88 of them were from direct linking! 2 clicks were from lander1 and no clicks from lander2. What does that mean?
any help would be appreciated!

Check though cause the lander auto redirects I think after the timer runs out so that could be the reason for the higher CTR.
Thanks tijn!
But just to clarify: it seems to me that I set up the % split correctly cos 91 views were from direct linking, 74 views from lander 1 and 88 views from lander 2...
another important question:
this is a Canadian offer but I did see some traffic were from US. I DEFINITELY only chose Canada in LI. Is this common? Should I raise it to LI?
Thanks!
(it would take too long to blank all the target keyword so I'll just PM you)
Geez can't believe I forgot to ask this in my previous posts...
Does "clicks" for direct linking mean anything meaningful?? I guess that only means users clicked the "x" and closed the pop-up...I got 91 views from DL and got 91 clicks LOL...am I on the right track?
Does that mean I should ignore the "clicks" figure from direct linking from now on?
Thanks!
I raised the "traffic from US" issue to LI and here's the reply I got:
I have no idea how this is possible
Initially i thought you might have the offer link on your lander rather then the cpvlab click through link, but if this was the case no subid would be assigned.
Is the conversion on a keyword, or is the keyword blank?
If the latter its possible the above is the explanation
hey tijn,
yes the conversion was on a keyword. No it's not blank.
hang on, just to clarify: are you saying I should put the "campaign url" in cpvlab, not my affiliate link on my lander??
another question is:
my campaign was approved around 9pm US time and all of a sudden from midnight, I haven't received even one single impression. my daily budget hasn't been reached. is this normal or something's wrong?
Offer link goes into CPVLab
Landing page link goes into CPVLab
On your landing page you link to the base2.php link CPVLab gives you
In LI/TV you enter your CPVLab Campaign URL.
So that this happens:
1) visitor visits a site your targeting
2) LI popup window loads your CPVLab Campaign URL
3) CPVLab decides which landing page to show (if you have more then 1 and using a lander)
4) CPVLab redirects to the landing page
5) User clicks on your CTA/Button
6) This loads your CPVLab base2.php link
7) CPVLab decides which offer to show
8) CPVLan redirects to that offer
initially I set it up in cpvlab this way: 67% traffic would go to my two landers and 33% traffic would be direct link.
I submitted the campaign to LI as direct linking and got approved.
After getting traffic for about an hour, I decided that DL traffic was not good, so I disabled DL in cpvlab and split the traffic between the two landers.
maybe LI came back and had another check on my campaign and noticed that all traffic went to my landers instead of DL and thought I was doing something funny and hence stopped the traffic?
Nov 19 update:
got a reply from LI saying that I stopped receiving impressions cos my daily budget has been reached. A closer look reveals that my bidding price has been raised from 1.5 cents to 2 cents! and when I tried to lower it down to 1.5 cents, it showed "manual Bids must be between 0.020 and 1.500"!
does that mean LI has closed the "lifestyle---others" loophole?
maybe they've even sent a "sleeper" here whose job is to observe and record all the tricks we've got here on the forum...
Nov 19 update(part 2):
i feel a little puzzled now...same result so far since i started follow along---always in the red and only 1-2 conversions a day. i'm not particularly concerned about the small money i've lost though...
after a review, what i've noticed is that there're a few variables and i'm finding it difficult to figure out what works and what doesn't with a small budget:
---offer itself
---landers
---keywords/URLs
maybe the offer is an excellent converting offers but my landers suck or my targets are terrible; maybe my targets are good but my landers suck; maybe i've got great landers for the right targets but the offer itself sucks...so i guess "testing" is key...BUT
when starting out, it's recommended that we start small and learn a lot quickly...
now this is a catch-22 situation...we need a good-enough budget to test thoroughly but according to the 40-day guide, we shouldn't spend too much on initial testing, especially for submit offers...so how can i know what my problem is? my landers suck, or wrong targets, or both? or neither and the offer itself sucks?
this is frustrating cos if i can't work out what my problem is, how can i improve? and if i want to find out the reason for my losing campaigns, i have to spend money on testing. but the recommendation is that we spend $5-$10 for submits and i'm afraid it's not enough for testing...
definitely need someone to shed lights on this...tijn?
(btw seems tijn is the only moderator here that replies to my questions...guess i've already pissed off others..lol...or maybe it's just because my questions are so basic that they're not even worth the time?)
In my experience i have noticed that 5-10 dollars is sufficient to test on when doing submits (this is on facebook). So i would just keep testing. I am going to start my first submit in the ndxt day or so and will be launching 3 campaigns a day and giving each a 5 dollar budget (at least thats what i think i am going to do). Tijn left a good example of what a month could look like in my thread i would link it but i am on my phone check it out and i think it should add sone perspective. Good luck
This is why i suggest you keep the initial variables to a limited number.
So:
1) start with a small number of highly focussed targets that get reasonable traffic
2) 2 offers in rotation
3) max 2 landing pages
What you can do is cut out the landers and do some initial tests on the offers to see if they convert.
In my experience if you have around 10 targets, $10-$15 is sufficient to test as well.
thanks tijn!
did you mean direct linking?
yeah i did
Nov 23 update:
tried to update this thread yesterday but got "503 service unavailable" error...not sure where did that come from...
not much to update...
1) haven't had any luck with submits
2) been having some fun with css
keep it up dude! one thing i learned quickly when i started though was that submits kinda suck lol even if u get one showing a profit they usually don't have much longevity in the campaigns.
Nov 29 Update:
---no great news to report re the campaigns...
---just finished reading <rework> a great book, highly recomended
---been sharpening my html/css saw
questions:
---we are getting very close to the end of the month now; what would you suggest for the next step? I haven't had much luck with submits so far
