Part #5 - The ultimate guide about POP-traffic!
Part #4 here
In this part we will talk about a tech side of affiliate marketing. I want to say in advance that I don't have a super good knowledge about servers, CDN etc... I can give you only my knowledge and my experience. So this part will be shorter than others - sorry
Server
This one of the most important thing for you if you decided to work with POP traffic. Because your landers need to load very very very fast. People don't want to wait a lot while your LP os loading. Therefore I don't recommend to save money on that. Where we will host our landings? Of course, on the server. But there are several variants to use:
- Shared-Hosting - Please don't use that. You need to know that if you use it for your landers, there will be 100500 other sites on the server. So you have very limited resources.
- Virtual Server (VPS) - this is a good thing, but only if you have lower than 100k/day visits. One server is divided into parts, and each part have limited resources, but in this case much more than Shared-Hosting. So you can use that at the beginning.
- Dedicated Server - this is the best choice for me. It's your own server (not virtual) which only you can use.
- CDN Hosting - I didn't try that a lot, but I can say that it works very well.
What newbies have to buy?
I and most of my friends use
http://hetzner.de (An example of a good server:
https://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/pr...server/ex41ssd)
For VPS you can use
https://www.digitalocean.com
What county to use?
If you don't know which countries you will run, I recommend to buy a server in Germany. But if you know - try to host your server near your GEO.
Domain
You need a domain name for your landers. What I recommend:
- Zone - .com
- Try to use a word "mobile" and sth neutral. Like mobilesecdown.com
- Don't use "-"
- Don't create subdomains. You need only 1 domain where we will create folders
Where to buy?
Panel
For your comfort I recommend to use server's panel. There are lots of different panels, but I prefer ISP panel or Vesta panel.
Of course, you can use only FTP and don't pay for that
CDN
You need to use CDN for your domains. What is CDN?
CDN (Content Delivery Network) - it's a system which help you to achieve max loading speed using a lot of servers in different countries. So this system caches your pages on her servers (which are located in different countries), and when people visit your LP, the page will load from the nearest server. For example, your traffic will be from Singapore, and pages will load from Asian server. Of course, you need only 1 server and CDN.
I recommend to use
https://www.cloudflare.com (it's free).
So people can recommend other services, but I prefer to use them, because I tried a lot and with CloudFlare I have +20-30% ROI.

Great post, mrbraun!
Regarding server panels, I have to add that I've tried Virtualmin/Webmin in its free version and it runs so smoothly in a 1GB VPS (It needs at least that RAM to not show errors). Its installation its also quick and easy.
Really looking forward to the next part of your tutorial
.
Thanks!

Regarding this part, and considering that the user rarely pay attention to the domain name, why can't you take advantage of some TLDs cheaper than .com? I mean, you can purchase, for example, many .xyz, .space, .pw, .rocks, .top and other Top Level Domains highly discounted for the first year and with a similar price to a .com for the following years or even cheaper.
I know this is not the most expensive part of the total budget (altough you can consider buying more offer-oriented domains if they are cheaper), but if .com is not as decisive as it could be, for example, in a SEO strategy, I think you can use other TLDs which are equally useful but cheaper. In the case of .xyz domains, these are used for some important websites, so they are considered trustworthy.
What are your thoughts and experiences in this matter?

.com, .net, .org work much faster than .xyz and other cheap zones. We did a lot of tests.

Very interesting! I did not know that, I just assumed that every TLD was the same regardless the extension. Many thanks!

Does it matter for Speed where the domain is registered? Because for example Namecheap is much cheaper than Godaddy.

Given that fact, probably a good strategy may be purchasing new offer-oriented .com domains every year using some promotional codes and let the old ones expire. This way you can ensure two things:
1.- You save some money in domains (again, I know this is not the main budget bottleneck, but it is a pro and an amount of money you can put in other thing). In fact, if you buy in Namecheap, you get 1 year free WhoisGuard, which is an interesting feature to protect your privacy and you get it free by renewing domains every year.
2.- In case your domains are marked as spam in some blacklists, you avoid losing traffic by renewing them periodically.
In case someone does not know, the Chrome extension Honey searches automatically for discount coupons in many websites, including the major domain registrars like Namecheap or Godaddy.

MrBraun, I was really enjoying to read your guides, I like that's it straight to the point and very informative.
A quick question about servers, do you think Amazon S3 + CDN (e.g. cloudflare) + Voluum. Is it a good option for running pop traffic or it might be too expensive because of the volume (amazon + Voluum costs). Or better from the start to go for a dedicated server/VPS?
I personally run mostly banners on desktop and amazon s3 + CDN + voluum is definitely enough for me.

Hey! Thank a lot
Yes, now I'm working with Amazon S3 + CDN + Voluum and all os ok, so for me it's 20% better than Hetzner dedicated server. And +20% ROI will hide all your costs.
