I realize this is a huge task BUT what if I were to broker offers to friends at better rates than networks? Got the cheapest HasOffers setup, throw up a couple custom offers, probably only have 3 people running with me.. Does this not seem viable? I don't think it would be hard to get friends on board, they know I'll pay and stick to my word.. I would know they weren't sending fraudulent traffic.. 99/mo would be made back quick, and even if they only pushed 1k/day, I would be making a percent of that, without doing the dirty work.
Even if it never 'took off' is this NOT a DECENT idea or am I just being too naive about this whole thing, and there's a lot I'm missing?
yeah was thinking of doing the same.. but in reality those 'friends' will be like wtf ill rather go direct, once they know whats up, or they will be complete noobs and not run any good amount of traffic...
And that's the issue I'm running into. They're my damn friends, I have to be totally transparent. Once they see what I'm doing, they're likely not going to like it. Some have said they would be on board, after breaking down what I'm doing, only because it sounds tedious and overwhelming coding your own offers and everything, but it's not bad. Most of my friends aren't all that technically inclined with any form of coding anyways... I figure that working with me will be a step up at least.. Like I said trust would not be an issue, payouts would be higher, ability to be much more flexible with advance payments, etc.. Probably using GT on the backend.. Not sure how I would work out offer payment, running a co-reg network. And yeah, they aren't going to be pushing huge numbers, high xxx, low x,xxx daily would be cool with me to start.. The initial investment seems too puny for me NOT to try though.. 99/mo for hasoffers, plus tracking, hosting.. not that much for what could go somewhere, at least I would learn something..
Maybe I'm just shooting myself in the foot telling anyone anything eh.. Probably the case.. But I was pushing some offers using co-reg and going straight to gametheory made a huge difference in return, even though my old pay was .75~ and now i get .8-.9~ RPU (so not much increase in pay per lead) but the difference in ROI is quite dramatic.
setting up a network is more then just getting a few private offers and buying a sub to hasoffers! It takes a lot of effort, BD to get the better offers and better payouts, and specifically ability to cashflow the affiliates unless they are happy to wait until the advertiser has paid you.
im sure some of the network owners will jump in on this and add their experience.
Well I'm on weeklies with GT, and I don't know how to go any more direct than working with GameTheory, lol. I assume I can't. So I would be getting weekly payments for my affs, and even if I weren't, me and my prospective partner have the bankroll to cover any payments until the end of the month. It really seems too easy; but I would love for a network owner to come in here and give me a reality check
If they don't require ads, email supression lists, or other crap, meaning your friends are smart and just need a link, then go ahead and do it.
But if it's going to require extra effort, then don't.
Also know taxes are going to be a bigger pain in the ass, because you are now gaining income from all of them.
Your friends are also not going to want to pay you all that much commission.
The nice think is you will see stats for them, and if Mike is doing well, and Bill isn't you could talk to Mike to ask
what he's doing differently?
Not sure if any of what I said helps.
Well as stated before I wouldn't need to wait that long, I get weeklies; and I don't think my buddies are going to make more than what we have. And I'm going to help them push traffic and they will be totally transparent with me; how better can I handle it? Losses are expected with any business, and obviously bigger losses with bigger biz. I get it.
SO I suppose my failed logic is to believe that I can start a network? Because gt isn't enough? Do go on!
like I said "For one, are you ONLY wanting to start a co-reg network?"
To start yes.
First, you should have some money behind this so you can guarantee payments on time when the offer owners fuck you - especially if your affs are your friends.
Second, make sure you know how to promote the shit you have, so you can help them make money (which makes you money).
Third, try to get direct offers from advertisers. Don't broker shit out a thousand times, that will leave you dead in the water not to mention the horrendous payouts and increased chance of not getting paid.
Fourth, know it's a shitload of work and a pain in the ass even on the smallest of levels.
If you're still convinced you can do this, and still want to do this, good luck. That's all I'm saying.
Funny thing is take it from a guy that owns 2 networks and buys traffic as a super affiliate. I would rather just be an Affiliate pounding offers running a network is not an easy game between, cash flow, compliance and many other factors...grass is always greener right
AND the $99 HO...is just the base....think about it 250k clicks per month.....really isnt that much esp if your doing ppv.....your gonna be at the $800 level in a heartbeat.....
@ Kevin
Grass is always greener. I've been on both sides and both have their ups and downs.
Why not have both?
ask heavyt his experience.
and thanks Kev
It's very peculiar I haven't talked to one network owner who HASN'T said that running a network is a bad idea.
It makes me wonder why they are all running them if it's such a bad idea?
^^ because as kevin said the grass is always greener.
networks:
see top affiliates doing xxx,xxx a month, and see all the freedom they have.
affiliates:
see top networks doing consistent #'s, growing a long-term healthy company.
I see how you can take the whole grass is always greener approach for people who are either network owners OR affiliates.
However Kevin runs and network and always runs his own campaigns. He is still saying he would rather be just an affiliate. Why doesn't he make that happen?
This is all pointless anyway. Affiliate marketing been dead. We all need to band together and open a casino - now THAT'S stable income.
I'm in!
I have a friend who's 100% native Indian. Lets make this happen!
He can buy reservation land. This could actually go somewhere.
100% native here... lol
