What $20,000 in 2 weeks on CO-REG has taught me :) **MERGED**

This will be Extemporaneous Writing.

So those that need structure and process. sorry, not here

#1 What ever you have read and watched. It is nothing like the real thing, but at least u get some concept.

#2 Have money to spend and lose... and then money left-over to re-invest in what works.

#3 know you offers converts BEFORE you run ANY traffic !

#4 know how to code html + php or have someone really good close by at all times (and even then know it)

#5 have tracking 'bullet-proof' and able to handle high-speed/heavy traffic.
be able to know where a conversion is coming from on the back-end or path and switch strategies can be the difference between wasting money and gather useful data for optimizing.

#6 know you metrics and strategy. even then start small and slowly. this is NOT like anything else you have done. similar, but NOT totally exactly like it. once you get your head wrapped around the process and why it works and why it doesnt and how to change your angle and approach. it can be another incredible income leg.

#7 have a great CTR% LP. whether general or target-ted

#8 the craziest targeting works. and I mean the craziest.
one of my converting targets (yes, im outing something that ACTUALLY makes money) is the word 'police' [ya, I dont get it either]. so, except for budget limitations. you can go crazy testing targets and find some killer consistent ones that make no sense what so ever. I havent seen something like this since I saw campaigns convert on RON traffic.

#9 try all traffic sources that allow your pathway. the wildest stuff works (if you can get it on)

CPV
TEXTLINKS
DISPLAY
RON
PPC
MOBILE
BILLBOARDS
FLYERS
NEWSPAPERS ADS

(ok, havent tried those last 3 but, if RON and 7search can make conversions and clicksor. then those will too)

#10 test and tweak but log/record what you do and what time-frame/day/target.

nuisances can make a huge difference. (some paths and targets kick ass for 3hrs a day but suck the rest of the time. if you run them 24/7 ur lose big time. day/hour part and KA-CHING!)

#11 keep testing (rotating) your back offer on other traffic sources you know convert (or the main one your on) to make sure you keep running the most 'consumer converting' offer as far as ROI and CVR%

#12 remember frequency.
if something is killing it but goes negative. drop it into another campaign with longer frequency. I have found winners to losers that when I put them out 48hr,72hr,1week,2week. go from losing to steady profit. esp with hr parting.

it is all about the magic formula:

RPU>CPU
ECPM>CPM
EPC>CPC
and then ROI and ROT (return on time)

#13 look for patterns then emulate and notice the results.

IE: you have many conversions coming from game sites?! try cartoons

look for relevant sites through any tool you would for SEO to PPC to CPV

#14 READ and POST on STM.

the more minds openly sharing on a subject the more will be understood and profited from and the sooner it will be saturated, but thats life.

Why we are creative and innovate.

If you dont like it. Work for the government :P

#15 Make sure your server/host & software can handle the load or wait and get some that can. loses add up fast!

#16 test each element u think will work because 'it did over here'

audio
flash
video
pop-ups
re-directs

all these can be + or - for you.

DO NOT ASSUME!

Test methodically!!!

#17 constantly work on speed. each piece that lags. costs u money.
since you are dealing with multi pieces. it gets multiplied.

#18 have a schedule:
when you checking stats & often?
when are u killing targets or lp & why?
when are u contacting your AM to optimize the pathway

#19 have your pathway optimize your path every 1 to 2 weeks. or if your doing your own. do it. (assuming you have enough data)

#20 keep a captains log.
if you do not already. keep a log book. what you do, when you do it, why your doing, what are the results, gains & setbacks and how your feeling. all of it can come in handy when your looking back and trying to figure out what to improve, what to drop. [this is on top of metrics and analysis]

Hey, thanks for putting this together again. Regarding #8...I tried something similar and...strangely, it seems to work. Or at least it did once. What I'm wondering is whether it's got to do with the mindset people are in when they're typing that word in...or if it's something else (what could it be?). Is it demographics (who searches for info on the police?). People avoiding something they really need to be doing? ...

Sweeeet post, thanks for sharing this, tons of great info!

I really like point 8 & 9. Crazy weird stuff works and converts all the time, you never know until you try!

With PPV its difficult to say cause the target "police" is matched to the URL. So sometimes it will pop when people search for the work but other times it could just be because they visit a URL with the word police in it.

Unfortunately with PPV you dont get any referrer data and the only way to find out where conversions are coming from, and therefore the mindset people are in, is to do an inurl search, ie

Code:
inurl:police
and grab a shit load of targets and run with them to see which ones get the traffic + conversions.
