Someone is Popping over my tracking URL!!

How to get it removed? I was thinking of getting a proxy rotator, and then keep on popping the gamevance ad on my url until they start losing money...

Ive been seeing it for weeks now and its getting on my nerves since clearly they are profiting by now...

urghhhhh

probably someone in this forum!!! lol

What does it mean when you say "someone is popping over my tracking url" ?

Still learning the jargons.

happens all the time, best advice is get over it and keep doing what you're doing. the peasant that is popping your tracking url will probably go away on their own

I had 0.55c earnings per pop using that tactic a while back. Change your tracking url. Its costing you money.

Considering you can get a .info for under a dollar I think you should just buy a new domain, maybe a few new domains. It will cost much less than you will lose.

This happens all the time. Grab a new domain or two for tracking. But seriously don't panic. Get even! I bid on tracking urls all the time. Sometimes it works. Sometimes I have to bid on my own to stop the competition. PPV is dog eat dog.

It means that someone is bidding on the person's prosper202 or CPV lab URL using one of the PPV networks. This means that every time someone with the gamevance or hotbar toolbar installed clicks on one of vidivo's affiliate links, the person bidding on that URL has THEIR link pop up over vidivo's page.

yeah but my tracking url has ssl installed, and i feel like updating the databases and all that crap to be too much work/ hassle... not to mention all my pixels that are already placed on my tracking urls and landing pages...

fuck that bro! time to get even and outbid.. might even make some extra money haha

Explain how this would work?

09-24-2011 07:08 AM #14 neonlights (Member)

Actually, here's a good tip:

Bid on your own tracking link (and your own landers) but leave it on pause. Then you can see if anyone else is bidding on it. If you start to get too many bidders, get a new domain!

its just an alias for your tracker so that if someone is bidding on your root domain lets say.....you can change it out....for example

tracker = lianesawesometracker.com/myreallycoolpage.php

new domain = yo.fuckyoupeoplewhopopoverme.info CNAME ---> lianesawesometracker.com

then......yo.fuckyoupeoplewhopopoverme.info/myreallycoolpage.php = lianesawesometracker.com/myreallycoolpage.php

you can do this with as many domains as you want you just making a DNS alias this doesn't slow down your tracker or anything really as its a DNS push and not a redirect

BUT

make sure there is nothing else on the tracking ip....IE. only 1 domain

Happens every time to me ( even when typing this just noticed some prick(s) are popping over my domain ).

What I do is I always use a rotator when submitting links to LI so I can swap easily later. Also I add my domain and variations to my campaigns and bid on them.

As soon as I see 1 or more guys bidding on my domain I just register a new one and change links in the rotator.

Yeah, well I still say the repercussions should be outing their campaign here on the forum. Mess with an STM member's tracker link, and get a whole lot of hate from the tribe. :-)

Its the name of the game here, im sure plenty of other members on this forum are out bidding on others tracking URLs. Just gotta learn to deal with it. I found it amusing when theres a bidding war on my domain haha.

09-25-2011 02:59 AM #20 ryankan1 (Member)

I know it's not funny to be involved, but as a bystander I find it a little funny... :P

09-25-2011 07:55 AM #21 Ryan Eagle ()

Sorry man, I apologize I'll turn my campaign off now. LOL JK - just deal with it, part of the game. Popover their URL.

09-26-2011 01:28 AM #22 st00rm (Member)

popping over the pop over, thats getting worse that SEO backlinking the backlinks!!

09-26-2011 02:34 AM #23 alex_b (Member)

How do you actually know someone is popping over your URLs?

Also I add my domain and variations to my campaigns and bid on them.
Is that the only way to see if someone is bidding on them?

09-26-2011 02:42 AM #24 jroes57 (Member)

Yes that is the only way and take varations of your tracking url and throw it in there and see if they are popping over that.

I understand the concept of bidding on a tracking URL, but why would someone bid on the tracking URL vs bidding on the landing page domain itself.

Just more traffic?

Less competition.

Plus, it ensures that some action has been taken on the part of the web surfer (eg. clicked a link on a pre-sell page), thus helping you understand the surfer's context and giving you more info to design your pop around.

Understanding the surfer's context = money.

09-26-2011 04:27 AM #27 ryankan1 (Member)

Sounds like targeted traffic to me

09-26-2011 12:32 PM #28 vidivo (Member)

No i have gamevance installed so i see it like everyday.... and the campaign is still running so its profitable even after i keep on seeing it lol

Another thing is to ensure your tracking links aren't being spidered by Google or any other bot (robots.txt) and make sure there are no footprints (e.g. Prosper202 in the title of your tracker domain). Some people are getting slick and are scraping Google results for all the P202/CPVLab links and just popping over them.
