The Secret To Bidding On Facebook PART2 **NOOB VERSION**
Ok part 2 in this series. This one is geared towards people new to FB Especially....
In part one I had mentioned that FB was looking at your past ad history to determine your "suggested bid range"
When you have a new account you will see bids that seem crazy....do a few bad ads.....and it gets even worse.....
BUT I have good news for you.....looks can be deceiving......
Since talk is cheap and why would you believe a pink unicorn anyways......
I got you some data instead.....
here goes
this first image is from an account with almost no history at all.....these were the starting bids....

__________________________________________________ ___________________
these were the starting bids from my agency account witha good history

__________________________________________________ ___________________
HUGE diff there almost 3x as high......
here is the good news......
after about 100k in imp's
this is the "personal account"

__________________________________________________ _____________________
This is the agency account.....

__________________________________________________ _____________________
yes the agency account had more clicks (forgot to turn off the ads)
but as you can see there is very little difference....
ONCE YOU RUN VOLUME!!
key point there.....I read alot of post in the forums where people haven't spent nearly enough to really have any idea of where their CPC will finally be.....esp if you are new to the facebook ads platform...and have no account history to speak of...
OR your learning how to do good CTR ads....
so keep this in mind the next time your bidding......

wait, they have agency accounts? All I got at FB is several personal and several business accounts and none of my screens look like yours...
Whats the requirement for Agency and how to get set up? All my accounts are 30k a day spend, what types of things do the agency accounts give you?

Thanks for this as i really wanted to know the whole history per account thing, but what are the suggested bids now for both ads? Are they the same too? or can you bid lower on the agency account

And do you have any data on what happens when:-
You bid 5c on both account when the personal account shows a recommended bit of 14-27c?
Will you still get traffic?
Will the agency account get traffic? (I assume you would)

It was just a basic test I ran about 100k on 1 ad over 300k on another.....

ya I will will being dong more of these case studies to help people understand how FB bidding really works....as I see the question in the forum all the time.....
so much of its is built around the FB algo and FB does very little to say exactly how it works....
stay tuned for part 3

thats the funny part.....
no the suggested are diff now....
personal accounts suggested are 3-5c .309 ctr
agency accounts suggested are 6-12c .348 ctr
which makes one wonder how much an ad account history plays into getting a better cpc....

ah, then I must have an agency account then maybe. I have a rep and the bulk uploader as well as auto approved ( instant ) ads too.
the name just threw me off as I thought it was just business accounts.

Auto approved wouldn't help you that much. FB rechecks ads like every 4-5 hours from more than 5 locations across the globe, so even if you manage to get something through it would be retro disapproved at the next check.
@polarbacon I have a question for you. Did you ever have ads that perform very well(high CTR) that suddenly have a 50-75% drop in impressions without changing bids? What do you do in this situations? (I've tried resubmitting ads and increasing bid with no luck)

most times that has to do with daily spend......make sure its jacked way high.....
the other thing to consider is the reach.....a small demo 100k or so is gonna burn out pretty quick with volume....and FB has freq limiters in place.....

I'll be happy if you elaborate on this one:
Do they recheck every single ad that's been approved or do they sample a couple of ads from randomly selected users?
How long do they keep rechecking the ads after they've been approved?
And most important - how did you get to this insight?

Are you sure about the locations? They just check the ad contents & not the destination link?
I only see IE/IN/US facebook ip's in my logs.

There are actually a ton more then 5 locations where FB could be checking from.
It goes in phases, sometimes you will see some from IE and US a lot, then sometimes you will get a rash of ones from France and Canada. The IE and US are the most common though, but there are a lot more that infrequently get used.

Yes sure, they could check it from anywhere.
What i see:
- First hit to fetch the landing page (always a us ip with linux/firefox user agent)
- Sometimes a reviewer (IN/US/IE ip with a mac os x user agent)
- Sometimes a reviewer when the ad is running for some time.

I think it depends a lot on the targeted country. I'm seeing reviewers with IPs from US, Germany, Japan, Poland, India.
I get a review on at least one of my ads every hour.
