LI regex pattern?
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to bid on a URL in LI. Here's the scenario:
- domainone.com/SomeSlug
- abcdefg.com/SomeSlug
- xyz123.com/SomeSlug
I want to target the SomeSlug part, but I only want it for the first one. Would the entry:
*on*SomeSlug
work to target it? Or do the wildcard modifiers only affect one character?
And I can't just use the fully qualified path, because LI considers it to be a POS page for some reason.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I think your example would work.
They do support wildcards.

I've read somewhere here in this forum that the asterisk (*) is not a real wildcard, but just a single character replacement.
So "photo*editor" would trigger phrases such as: "Photo/editor", "Photo+editor", "Photo_editor", "Photo&editor" and whatever character you can place inside.
If that's true, then you should target something like "none.com/SomeSlug". Of course, you should have to find the safest amount of characters in the domain that won't make it rejected, but also that doesn't trigger unwanted domains.

Im trying to figure out how this works myself right now. I could swear I read a post on here where one of the mods explained it, but I can't find it now
Anyway here is what is posted in LI's FAQ:
"The asterisk (*) is used with two-word keywords as a wild card and can represent ANY one character. The plus (+) is used between three or more keyword combinations and represents a space. A (+) is not a valid wild card. Our system will automatically insert these once the keywords have been added."

Thanks Johnc, I was looking for that paragraph at LI's FAQ and couldn't find it. And it is a quite small faq!!!
Then there seems to be nothing much to discuss. Anyway, if you bid for "Photo*editor" you will cover mostly any string concatenation in urls. But if you bid for "Photo-editor", "Photo|editor", "Photo/editor" and so on, you will have much more precise data on the urls that are generating the popups.
Now... if I bid for "Photo*editor" and some other variations, what keyword will the %KEYWORD% variable return?
and if I bid 0.03 of "Photo*editor" and 0.015 for "Photo|Editor" what bid will I be charged?
I guess I will have to ask LI for the answer.
Anybody?

got this from LI:
I am interested in using a wildcard. LI's FAQ:
"The asterisk (*) is used with two-word keywords as a wild card and can represent ANY one character. The plus (+) is used between three or more keyword combinations and represents a space. A (+) is not a valid wild card. Our system will automatically insert these once the keywords have been added."
so... what if i want to bid on a string that is
domainone.com/whatever-thing-here-is-random-SomeSlug
can my keyword be what is listed below to get to target the above url?
domainone.com/*SomeSlug
thanks!
Hi,
Yes, the keyword below is ok to use, but the wildcard only replaces ONE character, not a complete URL string. It would not make a match with the target URL example. Any other questions please contact us.
Thanks

thanks!
is there a way to match the url example?
> so... what if i want to bid on a string that is
>
> domainone.com/whatever-thing-here-is-random-SomeSlug
domainone.com/*SomeSlug
domainone.com/***SomeSlug
domainone.com/****SomeSlug
domainone.com/*****SomeSlug
domainone.com/******SomeSlug
domainone.com/*******SomeSlug
i could do what is above but that will add a lot of keywords... which is
not ideal right?
Thanks for the help!
Hi,
It only replaces ONE character. You would have to every variation of the URL replacing each character with the wildcard.
Thanks

so... i "think" the multiple stars work?!

Trying to get a straight answer from a LI rep is about as hard as trying to get a liberal politician to explain how taxing wealthy people is going to help poor people.

I agree with both sides of this.
