Looking for Solid Advice on First Facebook Campaign
What up guys... I need some advice on my first Facebook campaign and things I've picked up through combing through the forums which may or may not be relevant anymore as well just some questions to fill in some gaps.
So, first things first... I'm diving into FB for the first time, not sure why I've been ignoring it this long. I'm a product vendor looking to promote my software related to IM, seo...
Here's my questions broken down into the main i guess sections i've identified for fb advertising, and if anyone can anyone can hook me up with some answer that'd be killer.
Campaigns & Launching Campaigns
What do you guys recommend for uploading ads? I ran across a tool called adtoolbox that seems pretty good - anyone used this?
When's the best time to launch a campaign for optimal ctr?
When you launch a campaign, do you usually keep one angle per campaign? Let's say I have 2 totally separate ideas for promoting product A, would it be better to launch 2 separate campaigns - and if so can you launch these on the exact same demo?
Ads, Approval Etc...
I've read that adding a border to your ads increases CTR, got a recommendation for the color of the border (i'm assuming red?)
I've read stackman who said who said he usually starts testing with 1-2 heads, 1-2 bodies and 25-50 images... Is this ok for brand new advertisers, concerning the possibility of massive ad disapproval and getting the account banned.. Should I start off smaller? Or is this even a concern?
CTR... there's a gap here because without specific campaign data stackman always says he can't tell you what a good CTR is for your campaign, and says several times the phrase "if i'm not getting the ctr i need"... can you give me an example of what you would look at to determine the ctr you need?
Determining losers... Again another quote from stackman I think: "You want 50 - 100 clicks (if you havn't hit that many clicks, then pull the ad at 100,000 impressions)"... Is this determination based solely on profit/loss, ctr or a combination of things?
Relevant images... How strict is fb on this, esp for new advertisers? Could I say, put an image of a zombie, if i tied it to the ad copy and landing page - promoting something that has nothing to do with zombies adn get approved as a new advertiser, or should I go strictly relevant until i get some acct history?
Alright that's already a shitload of questions. Sorry about that so I'll leave it here. Also, for anyone who may be in my position or just need a good resource, I started a workflowy doc from things I picked up around the forum specifically about FB.
Could be useful and I'll be updating it with pretty much all my future notes about FB from here and other sources... http://workflowy.com/shared/7e990016...-091f90efe72c/
holla,
Bryan

I'm not going to take an hour to answer your questions but it looks like you've got all the advice you need right there.
Most of your questions do not have a right or wrong answer and there are no guarantees.
You need to get your hands dirty. There are no sure bets.
Post a follow along and get some first hand advice.

Damn that is a shitload of questions. You're going to find the answers to most of them by just launching campaign after campaign until you have calluses on your finger tips.

@deondup - not looking for you to "take an hour" to answer all of my questions... more looking for at least some answers from the admins like stackman who have more experience. But if you have anything to add of value I may take it into consideration. Thanks.
@groomez - thanks for the reply.. there are a few questions pretty direct, like what ad uploader you're using, etc... for the more nuanced questions I'm hoping the admins here, esp stackman who seems to be the authority in this forum can help out.
Have a good one guys..

Okay well for starters you're over thinking facebook. And the questions you're asking don't really have a solid answer.
Uploading ads:
Do it manually or by Spydr's uploader on wickedfire. There's a link in this forum to it as well as a discount. Just search FB ad uploader. Like I said, it's up to you. If you're new, don't use an uploader bc it's very easy to abuse and lose your account.
The best time to launch a campaign? Depending on where you're targeting, what country, what time you think your demographic is on their computers and will respond to your ad. There are so many variables to that question.
Do 1 angle per campaign. If you start stuffing different angels in 1 campaign it gets messy. Plus if you have a good one that starts making money, duplicate the campaign.
CTR/Approvals:
As for approvals, just upload stuff. FB will approve what they want, when they want.
Adding a border doesn't necessarily increase your CTR,
but it could.
If you read that Stackman starts campaigns with 25-50 imgs, 1-2 headlines and 1-2 bodies, then do that. It's good advice to split test a few variables from the beginning.
I wouldn't determine the accurate ctr of an ad until after 10k-15k impressions, assuming it stays solid.
If you have 50-100 clicks and no conversions, what would you do? I'd pause it.
How strict is FB to new advertisers? It's not anywhere in their FAQ. Just jump in and start making campaigns. If you want to put a pic of a zombie in your ad and make it relevant to your campaign, then do it. There's nothing saying FB will love it or hate it. You can't even predict that. I do know if you go trying to put 150 images of women with extreme cleavage in the pics, your chances of getting those ads through are next to none for most people.
Does that answer anything?
Just go make campaigns and get a feel for it.

I was just pointed to this thread but groomez pretty much covered it all. Let me know if you have anything more specific, but before you ask definitely launch your first campaign, even if you spend $25 you'll learn a TON and you'll feel a lot more confident in the whole setup of things.
