Facebook Mobile Traffic?? (10)

Facebook Mobile Traffic??

I noticed broad category targeting has 'Mobile' in it...

So is this mobile traffic OR people who've been segmented as mobile phone users? I did a small test to see if its all mobile traffic and I expected to see the little mobile phone icon in prosper, but this is what I got:

But I'm still confused about this....does anyone know??

Maybe it's still based on their interests?

So they are segmented by people who like iPhones, stuff related to iPhones ect?

pretty sure its what ubershawn said and based off of interests related to the devices themselves. 99% sure that the m.facebook.com site doesn't show ads and i know the iphone app doesn't. So I don't see them really giving you an option to target mobile browsers in the ad platform.

One thing I did notice which is interesting is your app.facebook to facebook proportion is skewed towards apps... could explain why my test was a bomb as well. Did you notice your CTR more shit than usual by any chance?

I have four theories.

1. It is showing to users who have set up the Facebook App previously on their phones.
2. It is showing to users using wireless sticks in their laptops (doubt there would be so many).
3. Facebook are trying to sell off their app traffic as "cool new mobile traffic"
4. Prosper icons are screwed.

Rule those out, I whoised the first IP on the list, and the IP whois shows IP Location: United States Phoenix Cable One Inc

Which is actual cable traffic. Not mobile, not wireless.

Why doesn't someone just email them?

Thanks for sharing your data Manu, i've just been playin around w/ broad category targeting myself & i'm finding it a little odd...

I think this must be the case. I just ran a campaign using the 'Gaming (Social/Online)' broad targeting:

and I was expecting a shit-ton of traffic from apps.facebook.com (thinking social/online gaming would lean HEAVILY towards uber-popular apps like Farmville, MafiaWars, etc)

BUT, surprisingly, what i received was largely non-app traffic:

(i have no idea where the [no referer] traffic is coming from, but even if that is also from apps then apps.fb still has nearly double the CR & EPC of regular FB traffic). I've Never seen apps traffic out-perform fb.com traffic before... but then there are a lot of other variables here like frequency, low # of overall clicks, demo 'reach' (which i hate in the new interface!) et al.

Neither does the newly updated FB app on my Android phone...

I noticed the high % of apps.fb.com traffic in manu's example too. But in my particular case the CR was actually much higher w/ the apps traffic despite the fact that I was using a category option that i expected to yield a lot of easily-ignored impressions (i.e. people playing games or interacting w/ whatever their app does). Weird! Now i'm motivated to test more of the Category options... My CTR on the ads was pretty much the same as prior (similarly targeted) campaigns (using ~80 kw's). FB has exactly 86 'Broad Category' options by my count...
Guess it's just a matter of more testing!

Heh, give me a Facebook email addy that doesn't include 'noreply' & I'd gladly email them to ask for clarification.

try sales-support@support.facebook.com

Tested this thinking it was WAP traffic with a mobile dating offer...got horrible CTRs and zero conversions. It's weird because it lets you target by platform (iPhone/Android), but why say that if ads aren't actually being shown on mobile devices.
