Question on things needed to start with in PPV

Wuz up to most...Hello to some...Get the hell back to work to the rest!

Ok enough small talk...got a quick question.

Now im not a newbie when it comes to marketing, however im a newbie when it comes to CPV (thanks to MR. Chaudhry its now PPV), and had a quick ?

Can someone give me a list of things I would need to start with PPV? I have down so far:

1) Money (a good amount)
2) Time (a great amount)
3) Concept of tracking (but my question within a question is which one is better to go with. P202 or CPV labs?)
4) Hosting ( I have shared hostgater....thats not gonna cut it right?...figured...so I better go to beyond?)
5) Affexpert tools (kind thanks)

So what else? Would that be it? I wanna make sure before I eat I have the right utensils.

Holla

1> I starting $2000 right now, it will be enough to see the result (leadimpact.
2> I think 1 month if you launch and research and see the campaign like a hawk, you will know the game.
3> p202 is fine, but if you want more advanced, you must buy cpvlabs (get more data and more profit of course).
4> You will burn money if you use PPV with shared hosting, I use Storm On Demand Bare metal servers, pretty fast .
5> Yeah this is a must tools for me to scrap url

ya that about covers the basics.....

on the server don't skimp its not worth it....it needs to be quick.....a vps is fine but shared isn't.....

I think cpvlab is worth the cost......as it makes testing so much easier and it can be used elsewhere....FB,POF,display

last thing I would suggest is photoshop or similar software and a good screen cap program like snagit....you can get by with just snagit if you want to save on costs...

Hey Sking,

I'm fairly new to AM and I was in your shoes not long ago and had many of the same questions. I've been consistently making $60-$110/day for the last 45 days with PPV. So, I've come from nothing to success fairly recently.

First things first -

1. Read this post by The Angry Russian - http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...When-I-Started

The take aways from that thread are basically A. Pick a Traffic Source and stick with it and B. Pick an Offer (or a vertical) and stick with it. Your only goal is to buckle down and make that shit work. If other people are doing it, you can too.

I picked PPV & Gaming. You can pick whatever you like, but I recommend you pick a vertical that has a lot of $1 - $3 type offers. These low dollar offers will allow you to keep your budget small while you test/learn.

If PPV is the way you want to go, here is what I recommend you purchase:

1. CPV LAB - $300 - This software is well worth it, you will come to love how easy it makes your life.

2. Beyond Hosting's CPV Package - Aprox. $50/month - (http://beyondhosting.net/CPVLab-Hosting/) They will install CPV Lab for you and, more importantly, they will install and SSL on your domain with the CPV Lab install. You could spend the time to figure that shit out, but just trust me, let them do it. You've GOT to have the SSL installed so you can place your tracking pixel on all these offers you're going to test. Also, this is a VPS package - you NEED a VPS.

3. Lead Impact - $200 Deposit - I actually don't run much traffic with Lead Impact now, but when starting with PPV they're the way to go. You'll learn how CPV Lab works, you're learn how to pick targets, bid, etc. You will learn a lot as you burn through that $200.

At this point, you've committed $500. You have to make every dollar that you spend count. Learn as much as you can - become a master CPV Lab user. Also learn to build basic landing pages, learn how to use your FTP Client and HTML Editor (I use CODA because I'm on a mac). Launch offers, and then launch some more.

Other tools I recommend you master:

1. http://pixlr.com - I saw a post by Tijn (i think) where he was building Landing pages with Pixlr. I took what I learned in his videos and created landing pages based (usually) off the offers landing page. I have no photoshop skills. All my landing pages are full images - when I find a winner I will sometimes have a designer build alternate "sexy" landing pages for me, but only after I'm making money.

2. Google Adplanner - I pick almost ALL of my targets manually with Adplanner (meaning I don't scrape URLS). I take the offer URL and try to understand who the user of the offer is. With some of these gaming offers available, there is a lot of good accurate data

3. Hotbar/GameVance - This may seem weird, but I don't spy on my competition. I've got a Mac and don't feel like screwing with it. I installed the adware on an old PC but I never use it to spy. I think NOT spying has helped me - I come up with my own angles and ideas.

4. Your affiliate network. Learn their Affiliate software - learn about Sub-Ids - read their guides, look at creatives, browse offers, etc. I run almost 100% of my traffic to EWA. I like my AM, I like their philosophy and I like weekly payments.

Wow this is a long post....but I have one final thing to say....

Your goal as a newbie getting into PPV should be to get accepted into Traffic Vance. Save up your $1000 and email your AM to get yourself a referral. TV traffic is awesome, the interface is awesome, it's my favorite PPV network.

If you have any questions, let me know man - best of luck my friend.

@canpous - awesome write up, thanks! Take it from your closing comments that you run traffic on TV now almost entirely now? I have yet to go down the PPV route (still on PPC), so will probably be looking at LI to take first steps.

@canpous : If you can't make it big in affliate marketing, I need to stick myself on the wall...

Lead Impact is the way to go when you're learning. They've got a ton of volume and a lot of people make a lot of money with them. I just have found that their are some discrepancies with their view count and the number of views I track - meaning they're charging me for view I never got. This really frustrates me and screws with my tracking. I've found that I have the most luck with Traffic Vance - the traffic is cheap and tends to convert better for me.

@canopus - Do you design all your own landing pages or do you use some of the 'quick' techniques learned here in the forum.

Also, anyone else notice that your offer normally converts quickly out of the gate and then dies down right after. Example, I loaded a new landing page the other day, got 6 conversions within my first 100 views and since that time I have only had 8 out of about 750 views. Any ideas about why this happens? Maybe I just need to change the lander daily.

07-09-2011 05:52 PM #12 canopus (Member)

@bb7400 I guess you could call it "design" haha! I saw this thread by Tijn here: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...n-Speed-Part-1

Watch the video in that thread - I do exactly what he does. I use the Pixlr grabber to screen cap the offer page (or some page on the offer's website) and I "design" a simple hop page.

Here's the weird thing though - the pages Tijn makes in the video look just like the offer page which of course makes you think "If this little page I designed looks just like the offer page....why don't I just direct link!?" The best answer to that questions is that you should test Direct Linking Vs. The Landing page but I've found that the landing page almost always wins. I think there are a number of factors why, the main two being A. by designing a LP you can make the file size really small so it loads hella fast and B. There's no FORM FIELD on the page that you create. I think people are intimidated by the form, they know immediately that you're wanting something from them. By creating the LP you kind of "warm them up" a little bit to the idea of completing the offer.

-----------

To answer your second question - I think the 6 conversions quick like that were just plain good luck, that happens some times. Instead of looking at it like "I got 6 conversions in the first 100 views and then 8 in the next 750 views" you should just say to yourself. "Ok, I had 850 views today with 14 conversions, can I make this work in long run?". I still freak out at the start of the day when I see my offers start to get traffic and no conversions for an hour or two...then I check a little later and BAM it's converting as expected. It's the long run that you've got to think about - just because a target might lose 4 dollar today, it made you 44 dollars over the past 7 days. It was just a weird day, that target's a keeper.

I hope this helps!

@canopus, @anybody -- I'm trying to decide between P202 and CPVlab for my move into PPV. My budget is limited so I could do without the $300 upfront cost. But since time is money, do you have a strong opinion opinion about skipping P202 and going straight to cpvlab?

If CPVlab will save me considerable time and/or frustration, coupled with providing better and more automated tracking data, I'm inclined to go this route.

07-09-2011 07:27 PM #14 canopus (Member)

If money is a big issue - go with P202. When you make some money you can then maybe justify the $300 for CPVLab.

There is a plugin that you will need in order to easily "convert" p202 to an effect PPV tracking platform (it's free too). Found it: http://nerdyaffiliate.com/pay-per-cl...or-1-5-x-1-6-x

It can be confusing to install, so make sure you read the instructions.

Here is a post about it: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...=1587#poststop

You've got to have that shit installed so you can see CTR at the keyword level. I used Prosper and this plug in when first starting out.

Only buy CPV Lab is you have more money than time - it's valuable because it makes it quick and easy to rotate landing pages and offers. If money is a big issue, CPV Lab will only be marginally helpful to you at this point. Stick with P202 for now and learn it. It's an amazing piece of software.

Thx canopus for the nice response. I missed that about the nerdyaffiliate mod. I'm having a look at it now. I also came across a video there on installing the mod: http://nerdyaffiliate.com/affiliate-...-install-video

Is rotating landing pages and offers somewhat labor-intensive in P202? You highlight that CPVLab makes it quick & easy.

I honestly haven't messed around in prosper in 6 months or so, and when I was doing PPV with prosper I don't think I was rotating offers. So, I;m not sure how tough it is. I do know however that I saw some post recently about rotating offers easily with prosper...let me see if I can find it.....here is one about it: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...offers+prosper

Also expect a PM from me with some advance questions...

To rotate offers and landing pages you can use the link rotator in Affexpert.

It's self hosted and you can use it as a front end to prosper.

Also , use the P202 plugin below to have exact cost data in P202 :

@sking
I hope my post helped you. Feel free to PM me any time, I'll help you if I can. I may not be able to help answer advanced questions but I will do what I can - I'm by no means a "super" successful affiliate but I have used these forums and the information within to become profitable.

What do you mean by you take the offer URL?? do what with it?

Thanks

To start PPV successfully:

1. Download Gamevance, Hotbar, etc (to spy)
2. Get CPV Lab (to track)
3. Learn basic HTML, PHP, CSS (programming languages required to make landing pages)
4. Get a dedicated server, so that your pages load fast - it will dramatically increase your landing page CTR.

That's pretty much it. Then you just need to be persistent and creative, and you will succeed!

Also it would help to have at least $1k to invest into testing campaigns.

Thanks for great insight.

the intial cost i see here about $500.

$50 is that of VPS. My brother has 2 high end servers that he uses to run Xrumer (yes he sell those services) and he pays $160/month on those. Can i use those servers? Also i intend to use prosper 202 instead of cpvlab. Once i see the profit i would jump on to buy them.

That leads me with $200 for LI.

Can someone please tell me its ok to go ahead with arrangement? Its a newbie question and i hope you must be getting what is going inside my mind.

thanks for help
