Secure Server Qu.

Hi all,

Possibly a daft qu but i'm a bit clueless when it comes to techie things. The affiliate network requires a secure url for tracking.

Do i simply buy an SSL certificate with namecheap?
The range from about $9 to $100.yr. Which type do I need?
I already have CPVLab installed on my Beyond Hosting account. Do I need it re-installed?

That's it, I think.

Cheers

You can buy a namecheap ssl or verisign.

You do not need the most expensive SSL host.

As for CPVLab, contact Tyler or a support ticket and ask how to get things installed for your ssl.
You won't need to reinstall CPVLab but if you're nontechie, setting a SSL can be a pain sometimes.

RapidSSL ($20-$25) has worked fine for me, supposedly 99%+ browser ubiquity.

I just purchased a PositiveSSL from namecheap...

What did you mean buy "sometimes they don't work well"? If that happens I won't be able to track properly I guess?

Thanks!

hi,

i just bought the PositiveSSL from name cheap to use for my cpvlab domain.
and i have the beyond hosting starter.
i have been given my csr.
how do i stall PositiveSSL?

in the back office of name cheap where i can see my PositiveSSL.
i can activate it. which brings me to a page of options to choose.
CERTIFICATE SIGNING REQUEST (REQUIRED)
which 1 do i choose?

1) Go to your Beyond Hosting cPanel for your VPS, log in to whichever account has your domain name in question added to it.
2) Go to SSL/TLS Manager > Generate Private Key > Go down to bottom and under generate new key, select the domain you want. 2,048 bit size. Click generate.
3) Go back to the SSL/TLS Manager > Generate CSR > Select domain in question > fill out details (address, email etc) > Generate
4) The big chunk of text it then gives you which is contained between the "-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----" and "-----END CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----" is your CSR. Copy the entire thing.
5) Go to Namecheap > Manage Domains > SSL certificates > Click assign or whatever it is when you have one pending (or reissue for instance).
6) Select cPanel as the server type, paste the CSR where it asks for it. Go through the steps it takes you through. It would be wise to select your whoisguard email as the approver email rather than a domain related one, otherwise you have to deal with webmail accounts and such for every domain. Easier to send it all to one email address.
7) Done. You will eventually get an email asking you to verify things, do that. Eventually you will get a zip file with a cabundle and CRT file.
8) Go back to your VPS cPanel. Go to SSL manager. Click Certificates (CRT), click in the choose a CRT file box and find your CRT, upload it. Done.
9) Now go back to SSL manager, click the final option "activate SSL on your website", select domain, scroll to bottom > install certificate. Bam done.
10) load your domain with https and check it works.

Success. Easy as pie once you know the process.
