Split Testing on a budget.....
Ok....when initially attacking a niche/sub-niche and you want to test say 5 offers, is your first step direct linking and rotating them to find the highest converting, then split testing LP's once you have chosen an offer? OR do you try to target the niche more directly with your LP's straight up ? for eg.make 2/3 LP's (1 copying the offer/1or2 targeting the niche and test 1 offer at time? Or another approach altogether?
lol i guess the short version is on a budget ($2k) in a targeted niche should i split test offers first and build LP's for the offer? or vice versa...
interested in hearing peoples approaches when they were starting out!

just keep it simple.....not knowing the traffic source.....I would keep it to 2 lps and the offer directlinked...so 3 total in a given camp....lps can be simple....don't over think it to much.....you could test 1 or 2 angles best advice though is to make them as dif as possible.....making 2 lps where the only dif is one word in the headline...is prob not the best money spent.....
you never really know whats gonna work.....so the larger the dif in the lps....the better chance you have to find a solid angle to go down......
break your lps into 4 sections
headline
hero shot (picture)
ad copy
Call to action
make significant change to each of these when first testing out....

Polarbacon,
Do you usually do 2 different layouts as well or just use different elements within the same layout to test?
I have been doing 2 different layouts but I'm not sure if this is needed, especially if you are already using a proven template within your niche.

cool topic. is a software/ service recommended like google's website optimizer during the split test of landing pages?
or is it good enough to look at which lp had higher ctr and move on from there?

I think its good enough to look at the CTR alone of each page in the beginning, but you also want to make sure you are achieving a profitable EPC so make sure your tracking that also! Since that will make or break the campaign

you would go with the LP with the highest conversion rate/ROI, no? I mean CTR will obviously play a part but if have - LP1 with CTR= 10% and CR=0.5% ------ LP2 with CTR=7% and CR=3% you would go with LP2 as it would be more profitable? (i havent done the math on on that but you get my gist)

I would hardly ever test 5 offers at a time unless they were the same offers just on different networks.
I'm not sure what kind of offer you are wanting to test, but either way I would play king of the hill.
If you had rebill offers I would run ONE lander and split two offers at a time (winner stays on). Once you find a winning offer then start splitting the landers. Once you have a winning lander, they you might reintroduce the offer that was the runner up for a final test.

I just mix stuff up the best I can.....a friend of mine who shall not be named once said "get weird with it"....I don't really work off a template per se....unless its a camp I am expanding on......

Say your traffic source is facebook. Should your landing page be an external page or a fanpage? If a fanpage, I
s it possible to resize a cpa offer lp to 520px? Or should I be creating my own lp for facebook?

what's the difference between doing this way which is testing only 2 variation at a time and testing all the variations at the same time using a rotator of some sort?
