Gaming on Social (mainly FB) (15)

Gaming on Social (mainly FB)

so I was hoping there are some people out there that can help me break into this vertical. It seems like there is good potential for scaling but getting high ctr images seems impossible where there are heavy restrictions on using in-game images. Any keys on this? Do you just avoid the offers that require this?

some sort of a mini-guide to gaming offers would be VERY helpful. I tried wizard 101 a few months back and ended up about -150 dollars (made about 90 spent the rest) Problem was CTR.

I'm assuming these are almost always direct linked which would mean all that is in your control is CTR.

Any help would be appreciated!

I was making $150-$200 a day with Wizard101 back in the day. That was my first successful campaign. That was with a CTR of ~0.1%.

I'm only starting to take gaming seriously now...

tips I can give so far is to test EVERYTHING. Ages, male/female, countries and most importantly KEYWORDS. Targeting is the key. I spent 2 or 3 days reading everything i could find about social games. You need to understand the vertical - this may help

thanks! any tips on the image part of the equation? or you start super targeted and scale out or try to go wid and hone in on high ctr images?

what are "good" CVRs?

are some CPA networks particularly good for gaming offers? I've just been pulling from WSM/EWA/CPATank
how is mochimedia as a traffic source?

sorry for all the questions...just trying to get my head around it and im sure others have questions too!

Whatever angle (keywords) you're going for with the offer - relate it to the image.

And to backup what deondup said - you should spend a little time researching the game itself. You'll never know what information you'll find. It'll help give you some massive leeway in what you can do and how you can get creative with the offer.

There's a good thread about Mochi in this forum. The appeal of Facebook is the volume, reach and the fact that you can get very low CPC's with good ads.

@ lavish
The problem is that "in-game" images limit you quite a bit. If I target Nascar keywords with Nascar images pointing to a racing game I can KILL. The problem is that you'd be pulled from the offer very quickly. I'm trying to find a way to do this. Landing pages may be a possibility but on super low payouts it can be tricky

How can the advertiser even track the creatives you use on facebook...let's say you just double meta refresh through prosper cloaking...they wouldn't see anything right?

idk about that.

my friend was pulled from wizard101 for using some other images. (not in-game images)

and the advertisers knew his exact ads.

idk how tho.

you can take your chances but that is no way to build a good relationship with your Aff network. The goal should be to get high quality traffic that can get you pay bumps. that's how low payout offers can become very nice cash cows.

You can imagine what the legal implications can be if you use images of movies or other games to promote.

true I understand traffic quality, but how is it done then? thousands of affiliates using the same 4-5 images to promote a game on facebook--click cost would be prohibitively high right?

you don't control the conversion rate (for the most part if its DL'ed) so I'm trying to figure out which is the most important part of social gaming.

Huh?

Did you download the game and take screenshots? If your image search is restricted to the few crappy images you find on a Google/Bing search then you should go after a different vertical.

I just got a few AWESOME images from a forum. You really have to dig into the game otherwise you are not competing. Just throwing up a few random images and hoping it will work is not good enough on FB anymore.

You DO ABSOLUTELY have control over the conversion rate >> different demographics, what your ad copy promises and targeting will vastly affect the conversions. Also, different images convert differently just like any other banner ad.

Alrighty, gaming is my 2nd biggest vertical, so I can give you some tips.

- While targeting below 18y old is profitable, it will result in bad quality leads for the advertiser and will not result in a longterm relationship
- Adsimilis has TONS of intl. gaming offers
- Keyword targeting is key to success, look especially in the direction of competing games (ie. if you promote 4Story, target Final Fantasy players). Other angles to take are related movies/books.
- In-game images do work, use your Photoshop magic to create sharpened images. From my experience, showing the UI of the game (all the buttons, minimap, ...) will always result in higher CTR than if you don't
- TRACK EVERY AD SEPERATELY. I've seen huge differences in CR with different images. If your image doesn't match your game LP, you'll most likely have a lower CR than an image that does match the LP

Good luck !

@scito
thanks for the gold

Have you got any tips on finding related games? I've found some good insights by reading game reviews but it tends to be quite limited as most games get compared to the (few) bigger ones?

Very time consuming, but I use Google most of the time. If I know the game is a RPG and the theme is manga, you can use queries like "most popular manga games" or things like that. Then you'll find games like Naruto, Pokemon, ... With those games you can try new searches again like "naruto compared to" and you can find a few more.
