Wrong mindset!

90% of people:

If it was easy - no one would make any money!!

It isnt hard and surely not impossible. But it takes stamina.

And finally - i can not believe I missed this!!!

Seth Godin - Quitting the Lizard Brain

The following is a quote from an email I received today which reminded me to share this with you.

The lizard brain is concerned with survival. It sits
at the base of the skull (at the top of the spine).

It's our old brain. The amygdala.

The idea of the lizard brain is this:

* it's hungry (find food, eat)
* it's scared (run away, avoid danger)
* it's selfish (attack)
* it's horny (mate)

Some people live their entire life and their
"lizard brain" doesn't interfere at all.

That's because the lizard brain was never threatened.

Entrepreneurs have it altogether DIFFERENT.

Challenge the status quo. Do something that MATTERS,
and your lizard brain will start to *FREAK OUT*!

The lizard brain reacts by sabotaging your success
with RESISTANCE.

It doesn't take much resistance for most people
to create a story (aka excuse) why *NOW* is not the
best time to START (or finish something).

Result?

Lizard brain settles down (wins) because the threat
of "FEAR/DANGER/FAILURE" has been averted.

End result?

Nothing gets done (started or finished).
Watch everything from the 11 minute mark onwards.

A line from Steve Jobs that gets me motivated every single day. Hope the line helps someone out there?

“.. almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

Love this quote from Seth Godin (emphasis mine):

The value of breaking news (news = whatever is new to you) is dramatically overrated, and the cost of keeping up with what someone else thinks is urgent is just too high.

If it’s important today, it will be important tomorrow. Far more productive to do the work instead of monitoring what’s next.

really like this one. took some notes - enjoy:

50 Minute Focus Finder

1. eliminate the 4 reactive activators
a. email
b. telephone
c. people
d. your free range thoughts

2. start scheduling time to play G.O.L.F
a. G- goal (a decision) - "I am going to play golf"
b. O-optimal environment - "golf course is optimal place to play golf"
c. L-limited distractions
d. F-fixed time frame - "each time I play golf is a 4 hour commitment"

3. very 1st 50 Minute Focus Finder
a. set timer for 50 minutes
b. write down every thought that is on your mind
i. for the first 10 mins, you will write down a lot (most will be REACTIVE items)
ii. after 10 mins, all the surface and "immediate" things are usually noted and now you will start to dig deeper, which are things that you WOULD LIKE to do (PROACTIVE items)
iii. try to get to 100 things
iv. no thought is too insignificant
v. the things that you write do WOULD LIKE to do (PROACTIVE items), will fuel you for the next 60 - 90 days
c. group items that are SIMILAR in nature to make it more efficient, for example:
i. make all the necessary phone calls in a set time
ii. pick up dry cleaning, get office supplies and such all in one outing
iii. all on activities that require the internet in one go
d. organize these items into projects and 50 min sessions "tickets"
i. the idea is you can look at each specific ticket (with respect to each project) and know what to do when you enter into a 50 min session
ii. you can/ should also rearrange these tickets to what is high or low priority

4. ???

5. 50-20-50 solution
a. KNOW what you are going to do before entering into the 50 min sessions (grab a ticket, grab the project folder, and FOCUS!)
b. best to do this in the morning, before you engage in any REACTIVE items
c. 2 hour chunks of time
i. 50 min FOCUSED on one task
ii. 20 min (completely disconnect)
iii. 50 min FOCUSED on one task

6. stop multitasking & FOCUS on 1 task at a time
a. if there are 3 projects (A, B, C)
i. multitasking looks like: A B C A B C A B C A B C A (nothing done)...
ii. focused looks like: A A A A A B B B B B C C C (done A & B)...
b. but what REALLY happens is, new ideas/ projects pop up so...
i. multitasking looks like: A B C A B C A B C D E A B C D E F A B C (nothing done)...
ii. focused looks like: A A A A A B B B B B C C C C C D D D D D (done A, B, C & D)...

7. focus on FREE and REMODEL TIME (because you will always fit in RESULTS time)
a. what would you do if you had 2 hours to do something not work related
b. block off times for these activities FIRST
c. what would your ideal week look like?

One thing I like to practice is ask myself several times a day, "What is the most productive thing I can be doing at this moment that will help me achieve my goals?" Usually it's a matter of scaling something that's already working. I get too caught up with many ideas all at once so I have remind myself to do what will bring the most money at that moment.
