So, I just started my first ever PPV campaign 2 days ago, cool stuff getting everything setup etc, learning tons. However, I could use some input on whether I'm on the right track here. The details:
- I'm promoting a subway email submit offer ($100 subway gift card; http://www.pixeltrack66.com/mt/w2443384d4z2x2v244v2/)
- payout is $1.30 on submit
- using Lead Impact PPV, bidding 0.015 on all keywords, mostly trying big chains (subway itself, wendy's, mcdonald's, etc)
- $13/day limit
- using prosper202 to track, set the Lead Impact pop-up as the landing page
- I'm rotating evenly through 3 landing pages (attached), I made some size adjustments yesterday so that's why v2 and v1 show up in prosper
My ROI so far is -84%, far in the red
I've attached some figures to get an idea about how I'm running things. Any input is welcome, but my specific questions are these:
- Am I including too many variables? (ie 3 landing pages, 100+ urls)?
- After how many impressions per URL should I start to kick them out?
- Is a 1.5% LP clickthrough rate really, really bad or just bad?
- Is there a way (using prosper202 + nerdy aff plugin) to see the keyword + landing page version + clickthrough rate?
Pretty excited about learning so many new things, but definitely looking for some pointers here!
PS In the Analyze Keywords figure you should probably ignore the clickthroughs, I think these are inflated by the short time I ran the offer directly at LI (through a redirect)

Kick targets out after cost per url is at your price of offer payout. So $1,3 ... If you got budget leave them for 2x offer payout.
1,5% lp ctr is very bad. But landing pages looks pretty.
Are you promoting this on leadimpact? If so try to resize height to 400px. There is really 800x600 popups but viewable area is only 775x400px and maybe they do not see call to action button.
Let me start by saying I've never done any kind of CPV marketing, so take this advice as you will.
I don't think your URL targets are very good. Its similar to taking a free Walmart gift card offer and popping it on walmart.com or target.com, I'm sure this is the first approach many CPV marketers take. There are probably people doing this already and chances are they are bidding aggressively because they either own the offer or have some sort of sophisticated conversion funnel developed to capture those leads and monetize them better than you.
Try thinking laterally with your URL targets, find people who could actually use a free $100 gift card for food. Off the top of my head I would target students and poor people. Try school websites, government aid/food stamp websites. Also, hopefully no one takes this the wrong way but black people are generally pretty poor, so you can try targeting websites that black people tend to frequent, although this may work better with a free KFC gift card.
Also, with a $13/day budget you should cut down on your number of URL targets so that you can gather a significant amount of data for each URL target. I don't do CPV but if I had to guess, with your budget maybe start with 10 URLs and trim and add more as you test. And maybe only be testing 2 LP's at a time so they each get a good amount of impressions before getting axed.
Do you got geoip script in header or as it's on screen (right here)?
If you don't have geoip I suggest you to put it in for better LP ctr.
wow, good tips, thanks guys!
@hippo I tested these using the affexpert pop-up previewer and it looked ok. I will try your suggestion nonetheless (or is it easy to install the LI hotbar, surf to the offer and see your own banner? I really don't want to install that adware, haha
So if the offer is $1.30, I pay 0.015 per view, then ~100 views and kick if no clicks? I can understand why you say 2x payout, because a 100 isn't a lot. $2.6 x 100+ urls = ~$300.. hmm, maybe start with a smaller set of urls and hope I hit a winner fast
@403flux you're right, i started with the obvious stuff (although I included some 'save money' websites, not a lot of views so far). I like your ideas though, I will brainstorm some urls to target for the coming days. I was indeed wondering about whether I was testing too many urls + lp's. I guess I was thinking to throw out the net pretty wide so I would catch any interesting stuff, but if the data doesn't mean anything it would be useless. It's just that I thought my ROI would be a bit better so I could test longer.
@yale47 those are just screenshots, the actual pages are around 50KB.
@hippo I'm in the process of installing it, I wanted the C version (not pure PHP), so it's taking a bit longer setting things up. I wanted to get started so right now the location is not dynamically set, will include it asap though!
Any other ideas on improving the CTR?
Here's a good blog post on using jquery effects to boost your landing page CTR.

Good luck man, keep us posted.
Those LPs look really nice, so I'm surprised by the low CTR. I would therefore try something in a totally different direction. For example, these are very image-oriented. Try something that's really simple and mostly text-based. Sometimes crappy-looking text pops are effective. Kind of like how sometimes you'll see 300x250 display ads that look like adsense formatted text ads, with tons of white space...You could include some simple "alert" messaging...
