What To Test First

Hey,

I'd like to ask if there is any priority in what I should test first in a campaign. For example:

I'm testing my call-to-action button. Should I go for testing new text first and then go for testing size and then color to minimize costs or I should just test all of them in no particular order?

I am asking because it costs around 100 dollars to get 100 clicks and test each change (red color vs green color, square button vs round button, etc) and I was wondering if I could somehow minimize costs.

(I'm using Bing and promoting a Clickbank product)

Thank you very much for your replies.

Test completely different layouts first. The buttons come later. Chumps like Ryan Deiss and other IM gurus will have you believe changing cerulean to turquoise for your border increases response rate 12%.

Layout/style (completely diff) --> headline of page --> offer (what they get, how they get it, how much it costs) [you have little control over this except how you frame it] --> sub-headings (they should read, along with the headline, like a complete set of thoughts, as in you can get the message across without any body text) --> buttons and all the other shit.

If we're talking about landing pages, then the headlines and above the fold images > your call to action button.

According to Lo, the first and foremost thing that you should test is the "angle" (Headline). It can determine if your campaign is in the green or in the red. You only worry about the rest of the elements once you found a winning angle.

good luck mate!

Yeah, this all depends on how far down the line you are with your campaign.

If you have a converting LP, a converting offer, and a great creative, then you can afford to start losing your marbles on the colours of your CTAs. Until then, I would focus on:

1. Finding the right offer.
2. Matching it to the right angle.
3. Finding the best LP to weld them together.

There's no point in wasting valuable budget on the aesthetics if you don't know whether you're building a monster campaign or a damp squib.

As for the actual LP factors, I agree with the above: headline and above the fold imagery should be your priority to test. The copy itself can be equally important depending on what type of traffic you are driving (interruptive marketing, the kind most of us deal with, is much more about the headline and image)

Thank you very much for the great advice. I didn't know about the sub-headings at all, will focus on this as well.

Thank you so much. I haven't thought about images either so I will work on that as well.

Got it. Haven't tested headlines either. I really appreciate your help.

Thank you very much for the detailed reply! Since neither LP nor the offer is converting properly and since I haven't tested headlines and images yet I will start working on them first and then move on to CTA's.
