Pausing/Resume ads, a good choice? (18)

Pausing/Resume ads, a good choice?

Hi there,

I know my demo works better at night between 1 a.m. - 5 a.m.

Could I pause my campaigns for the rest of the time? Only resume during the best periods?

Would this pause/resume kills my CTR/volume impressions thing?

coz if my budget is $50/day and it is spread out the whole 24 hours, I will lose out a lot. Noticed clicks between 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. but no conversions. Only happened at late night.

Any help? Thanks.

Most ad networks will allow you to set up day/week parting, which means that your ads will only run on the hours and days that you specify.
Do a little research into your traffic source and see if they have options for day parting. If not...reach out to your rep at the network and inquire about it.

I was confused by this post as well since it doesn't mention the traffic source. However, since it's posted in the Facebook category and you are concerned about delivery I think it's safe to say you are talking about Facebook. Yes, it does make sense to day part. However, I think their is controversy over how facebook will treat your ads if you continuously pause and re-activate. I will let someone with a little more experience weigh in on it.

Honestly, I didn't even notice what section it was in. Thanks for pointing that out.
I haven't used Facebook recently...but last I checked, they didn't offer day parting. If that's still the case...you are pretty much forced to do it manually.

That being said, I do seem to recall there being software out there that would log in and manually pause/resume your facebook ads based on day parting rules. If I can find links to them, I'll come back and post them here.

Drop your budget down to $1 or something then up it around that time

Are you talking 1AM-5AM on your advertising day? If so, then this is easy, just raise budget to $XXX at 12:01 AM, then at 5:00 AM or whenever drop it to $1, or any budget below what you have spent so far that day. Rinse and repeat. I would advise this over pausing.

If 1AM-5AM is in a different timezone to your advertising day.... this is more tricky. In that case, I would be more inclined to pause the campaign and reactivate with a decent budget pre-set when you want it - probably going to give you less of a crap traffic surge cf. raising the budget in the middle of the day.

I start my ads early in the morning, and pause them after 9pm every day. I've never had an issue when restarting them.

Listen to the Z™

Lowering budgets is generally fine during the day. If bid's are unchanged then you are unlikely to see CTR crumble. It's raising budgets that causes shit to go south. Avoid increasing your budget during the day, always do so in the very early hours of the morning (in the timezone on your FB account).

noted with thanks. Is there a way to change my ads account timezone to something else? Coz right now I am on US/los angeles GMT-8 timezone. But i am located in GMT+8. Very hard to increase budgets during early hours. I can't seem to find a way to do that. Any help? Thanks.

Update:
It seems it can't be done - http://www.facebook.com/help/147914771947397/

Sigh I have 2 accounts on this timezone. OMG!

so very hard for me to do this up and lower budget per day thing.

Yup, not possible. One of the annoying things you find out later. Thus, having multiple accounts in different timezones can be useful ;D

Just bid high and raise your budget at those times

Maybe I just never noticed the negatives...but what does raising budgets during the day do?

Some great info here, thanks to all.

Zeno, you are a gem. The way you explain things is majestical, and in my head I always read it in an NZ accent.

MJDUB, pity you had to remove both the stats and killer tip from your post, but I think it's for the better. I don't think anybody should post stats anymore (or at least not exact stats) as who knows if FB can search for campaigns based on "reach" or other identifying metrics (it's been claimed that FB Risk Department has an account here.)

Yep sadly that popped into mind a few hours after my original post
