Faking Referrer

Hi, Today I saw an ad on facebook and the site was something like cnn.com but it was obvious it wasnt cnn ad but someone faking, how people do that? are they catched easy or it can work long term?

You didn't get it. The refer that facebook was showing (in the ad) was cnn.com I know fake landing pages, I want to know about referrer

Sounds like it was a cloaked ad. Did you actually click on it? Did it actually send you somewhere else? It's not a referrer, FB is just displaying the address that it thinks the ad is pointing to.

I click and it goes to something like trk17.co

Cloaking. FB shows the domain that their checks end up at. Ad is being cloaked to cnn.com. Bit silly imo, why would you cloak to such a big news site that probably has direct relationships with FB, more likely to raise suspicion o.O

I am also interested to know this method of cloaking, I saw a few cloaked ads on FB and they last more than simple cloaked ads.

The key is to link fake news to a fake referr so people think its the actual site without checking the url

The key is to not get into this if you don't know exactly what you're doing, unless you want to burn through FB accounts and potentially have the FTC up your ass.
