Facebook testing - one ad got all the impressions (11)

Facebook testing - one ad got all the impressions

I just uploaded about 20 different images set them all to the same bid amount. Very quickly one ad got a lot of impressions and a ctr of about 0.25 while the rest of the ads got <100 impressions each (most of them <50). I paused the one that was getting all the imps once it had 7-8 clicks, but even though I had paused it, when the campaign stats updated a few minutes later it had already had 32 clicks and used up half the testing budget.

Now that one ad has been paused for over an hour but none of the other ads have got any more impressions. The bids for all of them are 2 cents higher than the recommended minimum. Whats going on?

That sounds about right.

Facebook doesn't pace ads equally. If one of the ads gets clicked on earlier than the others then FB will give it more impressions. If you're getting CTRs that high maybe try going CPM that way your ads will get more equal impressions typically.

Also, FB has like 20 minute delay whenever you pause or restart ads/campaigns.

Good luck.

Thanks Angry Russian, any idea why I am not getting any impressions on the rest of the ads now that one ad is paused? It has been 2+ hours now, I have even upped the CPC bids on all of them by a few cents.

I would need more info, but it could be one of the following.

1. you hit your account spend limit
2. you hit your campaign spend limit
3. the ctr of the remaining ads is too low

Solution check your account and campaign balance. Launch another campaign with the remaining ads. But honestly I never had this issue unless the ads performed really poorly.

i've actually had the same issue...neither limits are hit and the ctr is low but so are the impressions (under 1,000) I've had to jack it up to basically the bid price before getting more impressions and even then sometimes it's no dice

I have had luck putting each ad on a different campaign.

This way I got impressions across all ads.

the large FB agency's put 1 ad per camp BUT in that camp its not just 1 ad its 1 ad 5 times......so basically 1 ad - 5 times per camp.....it eliminates the issue with FB not correctly giving impressions or giving you bad inventory on just 1 ad.....its all about getting ads to "stick"

great stuff polar...seems like you'd have a TON of camps to deal with if doing a 200+ image campaign to find winners but if that's the way to do it then that's all there is to it!

They havent been given enough impressions to perform poorly and I am nowhere near my daily limit or campaign budget. Thanks for the tip on 1 ad per camp but that seems like a lot of work?

Some of the other ads have since got impressions and clicks but it has been 7+ hours since I paused the ad at the bottom of the screenie. Recommended bids are 0.31-0.55

Instead of trying to make the system work for you, work with the system.

There was a ton of good advice in this thread including breaking out each ad into camps or jacking up your bids and so on.

Was the high CTR not profitable? If yes let it run fuck the other ads and test them in a new camp. Just my .02

Dont get me wrong, the advice is great and I will definitely be trying the one new ad per campaign tip - I really appreciate all the help.

It should be profitable, the ad that has made me the most profit for this offer so far started at 0.35 CTR then gradually faded to 0.25 so I am just seeing if I can find any other images that perform the same
