Would not having an SSL affect dating campaigns?

Simple question, but I'm not a server/code guru wizard. Would not having an SSL (be it wildcard or single domain SSL) affect your dating (or any other lead gen) campaigns since no purchase or transaction is taking place.

Typically, my campaigns go like this with prosper subdomain.landingdomain.com > trackingdomain.com > affiliate network

And with CPVlab cpvlabtrackingdomain.com > landingpagedomain.com > affiliate network

Are you guys purchasing SSL's for your tracking domains AND landing pages or just tracking domains?

I'm all ears

I still can't see the value of the SSL for the lead gen landers, I just use the SSL in the tracking domain but if you can explain your concerns a little deeper about not having it in the landers could be enlightening!

Yeah I didn't know if anyone put SSL on landing page domains or not. That's why I asked.

How awful is it to not have an SSL certificate installed on your tracking domain? (prosper.xxxxxx.com)

I did have one installed previously on my old host but switched hosts recently and don't have one installed. What is the implication of this? Does this make my Prosper database easier to hack into?

Do I need to rush to purchase and install another SSL certificate ASAP or is it not really that big a deal? What purpose does this serve?

Sorry for my ignorance.

@groomez
Affiliates only use SSL certs as an extra 'refer blanking' precaution, it's not required.
Adding it to your lander might give your traffic that extra bit of trust to convert.
I get em' cheap from namecheap - a $7.95 one gets the job done!

Note that using a secure connection will slow your page down, so if a second matters don't bother.

@okthen
It's really not required.
I've seen a few places pushing them, but they simply want your commissions when buying the expensive SSL cert they recommend!

Thanks snipe!

I've since msg'd with my server support who said as much but also said that if you have the SSL Certificate and it's still valid, there's no reason to not have it re-installed on the new host. So they helped me do just that.

The SSL in the tracking domain is just for placing pixels in your networks, for some of them is required

Yea, extra requests have to be made to verify the cert is valid on each load.

Ah yea good point, some browsers.. IE in particular don't load images from non SSL if they're on an SSL page (eg order page)
